👉On July 22, 2024, Health Minister Mark Holland announced a nine-month grace period for dog travel between Canada and the U.S.
👉Most proposed requirements for importing dogs into the U.S. from Canada, effective August 1, have been dropped.
👉Owners now need to complete an online form before crossing the border. This form is valid for multiple entries for six months.
Dogs must:
🐾Appear healthy
🐾Be at least six months old
🐾Have a microchip readable by a universal scanner
👉Owners must present the CDC Dog Import Form receipt at the border.
👉CVMA staff and volunteers have been actively liaising with stakeholders and government officials, aligning with Minister Holland's position.
👉Updates and changes were shared via media interviews, social media, CVMA news, and a webinar.
👉Additional updates and timelines will be communicated to Canadian veterinarians by the CVMA.
