I do not condone taking your cat to work as change of environment is incredibly stressful, but if one were to do so I imagine this comment might be spot on.

What can you do in urban areas to protect you and your pet from ticks?

Maintain the grass

Ticks don't like short grass as it exposes them to the sun. Furthermore, ticks climb up long blades of grass to attach to a person or animal walking past. By keeping your grass short, ticks will not be able to attach themselves as easily. If you want to maintain the grass long, for example to support pollinators, consider choosing an area away from activity areas such as patios and playsets.

You could also consider mowing trails through the long grass so you can cross without brushing past the long blades.
