SORINE WINTHER
HEAD COACH & OWNER OF RIDGECOUNTRY FARM
Born and raised in Prince George, Sorine grew up on the very farm she still calls home. From a young age, she enjoyed a successful junior career in both the Jumper and Equitation rings. After graduation, she moved to the Lower Mainland to further her riding and coaching education while earning a degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia.
While working as a children’s counsellor, Sorine continued to ride, compete, and complete her Equine Canada coaching certification. In 1995, she returned home to Prince George and founded her own equestrian business, which has been thriving ever since.
As a Licensed Equine Canada Coach, Sorine prioritizes safety, professionalism, and continuous learning. She emphasizes safety in every aspect of the sport—from the barn to the competition ring—for both horse and rider.
Throughout her career, Sorine has trained with and alongside several top North American trainers and clinicians. She has produced and competed horses up to the Grand Prix level. In 2002, her life expanded to include starting a family, and before long, her daughters joined her in the sport. Today, they compete together on the EC Gold Circuit, each with a homebred horse of their own.
In 2021, Sorine coached her oldest daughter, Taylor, to a National CET Championship. Two years later, she guided her youngest daughter, Colby, to both a National CET Championship and a Jump Canada National Championship—showcasing Sorine’s depth of knowledge and expertise in the equitation ring.
Sorine takes immense pride in the lifelong care she provides her horses—from breeding and training to retirement. She believes that horse ownership is a lifelong commitment and instills this philosophy in her students by modeling it in her everyday life.

A few photos of our farms trails.
The farm has a trail system that consist of a series of trails that run through two different forested areas and is connected by trails through the Hay fields. Every spring and summer we use the brush cutter to keep the grass trimmed through the hayfield trails. It is a nice way to cool the horses down after lessons ❤️🐴

It has been a busy week here at the stable with repairs and maintenance. Pressure washed, and re-stained the concrete deck at the end of the barn. Also removing and replacing the one by two pressure treated moldings, holding the windscreen at the end of the indoor ring.
The new Milwaukee water pump is doing a fantastic job feeding water from the tank to the pressure washer. Very pleased with this little water pump, it comes in handy around the farm.❤️🐴

Our Father’s Dementia journey has come to an end. Howard Thomas Sr passed away on Saturday Aug 30th in the West Coast General Hospital at 6pm.
We are all heartbroken but at the same time we understand that his Dementia journey has ended.

He was living at Fir Park Village seniors home in Port Alberni.
When he first went there, he was thriving. Making friends with people his age. He was the best dancer and singer during music night. He enjoyed painting and all the activities that they provided and the caregivers said he was their favorite.
As his dementia disease progressed it became difficult for him. As everything became confusing. Not knowing who people were, forgetting how to dress in the morning or even go to the bathroom and required assistance. At the end, he became uncooperative and difficult for the caregivers and started to get angry. I believe out of confusion and they had to sedate him.
He rapidly declined over the last month and was confined to a wheelchair. Friday morning he was unresponsive and they took him to the hospital. The family spent two days with him before he succumbed to the terrible disease that took everything away from him before his life.

We all have wonderful memories, and he will be greatly missed.
He is now with his loving wife Rose, his grandson Mitch, his great great granddaughter Melody, and all his beloved pets.

A decision regarding a service has not been made at this time, but will let everyone know.

Our amazing farm helper Finn has been very busy re-staining the front of our barn. we used the Cloverdale Sunfast on the board and batten siding and a Hunter Green on all the trim. It has been 15 years since the first coat. He did a fantastic job, looks great and the green really pops out.
Also busy replacing a wall on one of the shelters the original wall was 2 x 8 Spruce and exposed to the prevailing winds in the winter however, it did last 14 years. We replaced the 2 x 8 with 2 x 12 fir. ❤️🐴

Farrier’s busy at work, the veterinarian just left and whoa hold your horses, we have 18 little ones in our last summer camp of the season. Today they will be busy tacking up and riding, learning, staple management and painting these horseshoes to take home as a souvenir of their time here at the stable ❤️🐴

Our second Pyramid Stable summer camp is well underway. There are 11 little ones in this camp, and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. Very busy learning about grooming, tacking up and riding as well as stable management and crafts. And the watermelon snack seemed to go over very well.😃❤️🐴

Jenny’s garden is doing very well this year. We have a 75 foot diet all summer. Just walk out to the garden and pick something for dinner. Lettuce, spinach, peas, beans beats, zucchini, patty pan. Lots of pears this year and this will be our first year for Kiwi and prune plums . We also harvested about 100 pounds of raspberries.
All grown in our pyramid stables compost
