A bit of a lazy horse day on the farm. After all the rain and the big storm today it is +8 and balmy. Most of the horses are having a snooze. But not us humans. Today we are putting crusher fines around some of the shelters.
This will definitely make it easier for the wheelbarrows and to clean the paddocks ❤️🐴

Another very busy weekend on the farm. This weekend we rented a boom lift, the Nifty SP34.
Just a one day rental, but because it’s a long weekend, we get it for four days.
spent one whole day on the indoor ring and barn cleaning all the eve troughs, fixing some loose downspouts, Caulking, some vents, Replacing a few sprinkler heads in the in-door ring, cleaning the viewing lounge windows and dusting the emergency lights.
Day two we were up trimming branches in the driveway and some work in the outdoor riding ring. And the view is always amazing from that height. And a big thank you to Matt David for all the help❤️🐴

Well, it was fix and repair the Fencing day. We had a big old willow tree fall over the electric fence at the back of one of the horse pens and was decreasing the power of the fence. Willow trees have hundreds of branches so instead of cutting up with power saw we decided to jump on the excavator and throw the branches back over the fence. This will create a nice habitat for wildlife. We were not sure if it would scare the horses, but apparently Laz thought, it was kind of interesting to watch❤️🐴

We don’t have a lot of mud in the horse pens at pyramid stables however we do have a couple of inches around some of the shelters. Every year we scrape and add some crusher fines. This year we’re trying something new. “Mud grids.”
In a couple of the paddocks. Kind of an experiment to see how well they work and if we like them. We will keep you posted. ❤️🐴

Well, the first show of our winter series is well underway. A great turnout, and we have Ho Jo’s food truck on site. So far the weather has been cooperating and no rain this morning. Drop on by the stable admission is free.

A big thank you to all our barn family who came out this evening to help set up for our first horse show of our pyramid stables winter series. Friday is warm-up day Saturday is jumpers with hunters on Sunday. We will have a food truck on Saturday will need to confirm about Sunday.admission is free if anyone is interested in coming out to watch.

An average day for LJ involves training young riders alongside their horses and preparing them to compete. LJ — whose family operates Thunderbird Show Park and Thunderbird Show Stables in Langley, B.C. — has been competing in FEI from 2008 on wards, and has competed in over 120 FEI competitions! Most recently, LJ was selected to represent Canada at the Nations Cup in Mexico, alongside some of the best riders in the world.

At pyramid stables, we have our very own murder of crows. They seem to disappear in the summer, but come back every fall. They show up at the barn during evening feeding. Yes grain fed crows. The fattest crows in Nanaimo 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛

Every September Pyramid stables closes down the lesson program for one week. This gives the horses and Jennifer well deserved holiday. Jennifer is off to the masters at Spruce Meadows. And Howie usually stays home and works on a major project.
This year we just finished replacing the surface of our indoor riding ring.
First, removing all the old sand. And some spots, the sand was so hard. We had to use the tooth bucket on the excavator to break it up and put it in the dump truck.
Next came packing the base in preparation of the new sand.
When the base was packed, the new sand started to arrive and was put in place by a very experienced bobcat operator using a laser level.
The job is now complete just waiting for it to settle with watering and floating for a few days. Then it should be ready to ride in. 🤗🤗❤️🐴

Our Pyramid stables 2024 summer camps are now over for the season. This year we hosted six summer camps where just over 60 young people learned how to ride and care for horses.
They learned not only basic riding skills, but responsibility and teamwork. Along with some stable management and crafts and just a whole bunch of fun
Looking forward to next season❤️🐴

We had no ragwort Tanzi w**d on our property until two years ago. Now it is in the grazing field and underneath all the fences. We have been very busy trying to keep it away. It’s crazy how fast it spreads. If you see this w**d on your horse property try your best to pull it and dispose of it.

Jenny‘s garden is doing very well this year. Lots of wonderful goodies to harvest. A lot of love and care and some amazing.🐴💩 compost. We will have another 80 yards ready for sale in September.
At this time, we have summer squash and berries for sale in our farmstand. 🥦🥦🍆
