SORINE WINTHER
HEAD COACH & OWNER OF RIDGECOUNTRY FARM
Born and raised in Prince George, Sorine grew up on the very farm she still calls home. From a young age, she enjoyed a successful junior career in both the Jumper and Equitation rings. After graduation, she moved to the Lower Mainland to further her riding and coaching education while earning a degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia.
While working as a children’s counsellor, Sorine continued to ride, compete, and complete her Equine Canada coaching certification. In 1995, she returned home to Prince George and founded her own equestrian business, which has been thriving ever since.
As a Licensed Equine Canada Coach, Sorine prioritizes safety, professionalism, and continuous learning. She emphasizes safety in every aspect of the sport—from the barn to the competition ring—for both horse and rider.
Throughout her career, Sorine has trained with and alongside several top North American trainers and clinicians. She has produced and competed horses up to the Grand Prix level. In 2002, her life expanded to include starting a family, and before long, her daughters joined her in the sport. Today, they compete together on the EC Gold Circuit, each with a homebred horse of their own.
In 2021, Sorine coached her oldest daughter, Taylor, to a National CET Championship. Two years later, she guided her youngest daughter, Colby, to both a National CET Championship and a Jump Canada National Championship—showcasing Sorine’s depth of knowledge and expertise in the equitation ring.
Sorine takes immense pride in the lifelong care she provides her horses—from breeding and training to retirement. She believes that horse ownership is a lifelong commitment and instills this philosophy in her students by modeling it in her everyday life.
