Willow 🤗.
Didn't see them for a couple of weeks. It's always a surprise...
I have no words to express how happy I was when I saw Willow coming over!! Tail wagging, eyes shiny, happy and active ❤️❤️❤️. No trace of the dog hidden inside himself having no idea of how fun it is to interact with a human!!!
Great job Dominique!! I think you're made for each other!!!! 😻

Last weekend we finally got our BH with my baby girl, Black P, Sobaka, Aven Von Ducasse ❤️!!!

It took us a very long time because although we had all the routine ready for years lol, emotionally she wasn't there.

But miracles happen and "baby dinosaurs can prance"™️!! Yes we had little technical mistakes here and there, but her emotion and connection was what I wanted to see!! I was super stressed during the routine, but looking at her funny Sobaka face and eyes made me smile all the way 🤗.

Thank you very much to the Schutzhund Mirabel club for hosting the trial and being so welcoming!! 😍

Thank you very much to the judge Dave Grant for your judging and for your appreciation of my girl and our work!! 😊 ("Was it you who taught her to heel?" lol lol)

There is one exercise that I like very much - throwing food on the ground, saying a marker and moving. So the dog "gets conditioned" to the marker. And then, in a very stressful situation, this same exercise can be used to calm the dog (and also a life saver!).

(IMPORTANT: this is not the approach of "show your barking and pulling reactive dog a piece of food, and he'll forget about the barking and will come to eat". No! This is about teaching a dog to go in a calm state of mind, almost to autosoothe.)

Reading now Mia Skogster's book (Let's Speak Dog), I start to question my understanding of what's happening. I used to think that the dog gets conditioned to a certain emotion following a certain action - the handler throwing the food, saying a marker. But what if.... the dog actually gets to that emotion, following the emotion that his handler is showing? Basically - copying the emotion of his handler!!! How mind blowing it is!! I feel that this idea just opened a whole new world for me!!!!

If you made it so far, read how she begins her book:

"Many dog trainers still swear by the theory of instrumental or operant conditioning. The theory was made famous by the psychologist B.F. Skinner, and the central tenet is that it is possible to modify animal and human behavior by means of reinforcements, i.e., rewards and punishments. Desired behavior can be increased by rewarding and unwanted behavior reduced by punishing. One of the strengths of the theory is its simplicity, which unfortunately is also its great weakness. It cannot provide answers to all kinds of learning. Learning and behavior are much more complex processes than the mechanistic picture created by the theory suggests."

And then she talks about emotions, and body movement, and voice intonations, and much more.

So I invite you to

a) forget the technicalities and learn to learn to connect with your dog (it's an infinite learning process, for both sides)
b) go check Mia Skogster (her book, her training, anything!!!)

It's time to do the next step in dog training!!!!!

P.S. Yes, both dogs are reactive biters. Yes their handlers have been working, and learning, and pushing themselves, and moving forward (it's not as easy as drinking a beer!!) No, it wouldn't work if there wouldn't be a connection between the handler and their dog. 🌼☺️💪

In the end, any experience should be a positive learning experience for the dog!
It is one of our main responsibilities as dog handlers to create such a relationship with them, that they learn to trust our guidance to overcome their doubts or fears in order to grow confident and happy!

What a coincidence that I have Shadow, Oliver's litter mate sister, for training!! Keeping in mind that her handler lives in Alberta 😸🙊.

See this sweet face? She had to wear a muzzle in order to do her nails!! Couple of repetitions, and there she is - no muzzle and completely relaxed when I was doing her last leg. Such a lovely girl!! ❤️

Sobaka is used to the woods and the fields. We go for a walk off leash. We're country girls.

Yesterday we did obedience training in downtown Montreal. She couldn't care less about what was happening around. She's such a cool girl!!! ❤️

✅ In order to be approved, you need to come for an evaluation one on one class (between 12th to 24th December).
