At the deepest heart of the Dirty 30s' my Cape Breton mother bought Susan from a Toronto breeder and brought her, by train, to the Maritimes. That started an obsession that continues today.

Dale Evans definitely took a back seat to Roy Rogers in their comic book and TV show adventures but the Airedale named for her did something on Remembrance Day that was beyond him--she gave birth. Four boys and two girls arrived that day. And while Dale Evans is on the petite side her babies are extra large. The biggest of the boys weighed in at 13 ounces (36 grams) the day after he was born. Daphne doesn't have time to smell the flowers these days. She has a passel of puppies to raise. Seven of them, three girls and four boys came into the world on July 29th. A first time mum, Daphne is still learning the ropes but her puppies are gaining faster than I can record their progress. In a week they had doubled their weight. The puppies pictured below are a day short of a week old
