Pip is looking for a new home. Her current home regretfully can't keep her. She is a 4 month old golden doodle, great with kids and other animals and loves going for walks. She has started basic training with us and is doing well. If you are interested in adopting this sweet girl, please let me know and I will put you in touch with her current family.

It's crunch time for making sure all the gifts are under the tree before Christmas! Consider this! It's free and you already have it to give.

I know–it’s late to be talking about gifts for pets and pet lovers the week before Christmas. But the adventure of life never ceases to remind us that plans are just that. Plans. Which have to be changed when life interrupts our carefully-constructed calendars. I love the holidays, now that I’...

A good read ...

(This is a post from a few years ago, but it is so important that I thought it was worth posting again. I’d write a new one, but, well, everything I want to say is here, so I’ve posted it again. I’d love your feedback, stories, etc., on what works (or doesn’t work), for you.) […]

Want to get your 4 legged friend a great gift for Christmas?? Avoid these! Many contain toxic ingredients. Let's keep everyone safe this Christmas!

Just a little warning regarding the Xmas treats many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at xmas.

Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas.

The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.
Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes.
On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking.
The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.

Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin!

Please be safe with your dogs!

Something to keep in mind especially if your dog has allergies. That extra perfume isn't helpful for itchy skin or those sensitive to smells. Remember, your dog's sniffer is WAY more sensitive than yours! We use TruEarth here and we love it!

ARE LAUNDRY CHEMICALS AFFECTING YOUR PETS’ SKIN & HEALTH?

If you wash your pet blankets and beds using popular fabric softeners and dryer sheets, that “just washed” fresh smell comes from chemicals called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that can negatively impact your pets’ health (coughing, rashy, itchy pets, anyone?).

Dr. Anne Steinmann’s UW-Seattle research team found more than 25 VOCs emitted from dryer vents using these products, including well-known respiratory irritants like Acetone, Formaldehyde, Acetaldehyde, but also Pentane (which causes skin rashes and upset stomach), Ethyl Acetate (on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list; causes anemia, changes in white blood cells and can damage the liver and kidneys), Benzyl Acetate (can be absorbed through the skin and is linked to pancreas problems) and Alpha-terpineol (causes headaches and nervous system disorders).

Our pets can do without having to breathe in these chemical residues or having to lay on them, so here’s our Forever Dog Tip of the day: replace chemical-laden fabric softeners with a non-toxic DIY option!

Recipe: Mix 6 cups white vinegar with 1 cup baking soda, let it fizz. When the fizz stops, pour mixture into a large glass container with a lid. Use 1 cup per load of laundry.

We highlight all of the of home chemical risks that can negatively impact your dog’s health in the The Forever Dog book, available now for pre-order by clicking here: https://foreverdog.com/about/ -window

Classes forming now for Fall 2021!

September is just around the corner and it's time to get back to training!

This fall I will be offering:

Beginner Course: In the beginner course, you will learn all the basics with the distractions of other dogs and learn socialization in a group setting. The course will take place Wednesday evenings.

Walking Course: The walking course will be a drop-in group where you can practice your loose leash walking around the distractions of other dogs. The course will take place outside at the Leamington Marina. This class is for all skill levels. The course will take place on Thursday evenings.

I am also hoping to do a recall course and an intermediate course in the near future. Let me know if you are interested in joining us!

The recall. Reward EVERY time! It's well worth it and may just save your dog's life one day...

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter if your dog sits when you ask them to, but coming when called could save their life - it's worth paying for that behavior every single time (no matter how angry you are that they left your side to begin with.)
