I wanted to share this photo as it just brings me so much joy!

This girl looks awesome anytime, whether it’s milked out, 3hr fill, 12hr fill, show fill or anything in between! She’s the highest producing second freshener I’ve had here, and is one of my highest producing does here! She earned herself an 89 in mammary this year and boy did she deserve it!

Here she is pictured a few hours before milking on a 10.5hr fill. It’s not a fancy photo by any means, and she’s not standing perfect, there’s a fence in the way, and I have no idea what is on her udder, but it shows what a true productive dairy goat looks like raw in the pasture!

Now that photos are back we can FINALLY share an Olds update!

First up is Shadow Vale Deorum Aida *M
She had a great first show. She is well a kinda ugly yearling FF as most are - she’s got all the right stuff just needs time to mature! She placed 2nd in Ring 1 under Alex Cripps then proceeded to take RGCH Sr. She placed 2nd in Ring 2 under Chris Grab and also proceeded to take RGCH Sr.

We finally got photos of the babies done today! First up are 805 FB Caspian daughters!

These are our 4 daughters from him this year, all out of different dams. I’m loving the height at front end and width on his kids! I’m seeing improvements on all over there dams!

I often don’t post photos of the bucks, because let’s be honest the only time they really look semi presentable is when they’re shaved for classification 🫠

However I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a few photos of this handsome guy! He is just gorgeous even in his p*e stained hair!

I try not to play favourites however this boy and his dam have to be my absolute favourites! They are two that will never leave here and will always be my favourites!

Well after a morning full of unfortunate events the goats are FINALLY loaded, trailer is packed, and I think I have everything……well who am I kidding I probably don’t have everything 🫠

The last two days have been BUSY as I decided it was a great idea to wait to start packing until the night before we leave and not to mention wait to shave 3 goats once we are there (all 3 being kids that have never been clipped - what a gong show that’s going to be) the day we leave.

Anyway now that we are about 1hr later than what we had originally intended to leave, we are officially locked and loaded heading to the CNDA Western Classic Dairy Goat Show for the second year in a row. We loved this show so much last year that we couldn’t resist coming back again!

Our show string for this show consists of 6 Nigerian Milkers, 2 Nigerian Kids, 1 Alpine Milker, 1 Alpine Kid……and one too many bottle babies plus two milkers not showing (thanks to someone forgetting to check there tattoos until Thursday evening at milking - that’d be me I’m “someone” 🤦‍♀️) to hopefully lighten the work load for our house sitter.

Safe travels everyone and we can’t wait to see everyone again!

Our first CGS 305 day milk test happened yesterday! It’s really no different than any other day aside from getting to see where everyone is sitting!

Our highest producer was our Alpine producing 13.44lbs. Our second highest producer was Tempo at 7.6lbs.

Our herd sat between 3.5lbs to Aida’s 13.44lbs. I’m extremely happy with these results and super proud of the girls!

Now we wait to see what everyone’s BF% is, fingers crossed it’s just as good as there production! 🤞

We are also awaiting to see if the does who participated in the CGS 1 Day Milk Test last Saturday earned or re-earned there *M

About a week ago Allie finally released her hostages on day 152, however unfortunately it wasn’t all smooth sailing.

She had her buck kid first he was small only weighing 2lbs but he was lively and trying to eat. A few minutes later she had her doe kid which had her head back however she had no issues passing her. She is tiny and when I say tiny I mean the tiniest living kid I’ve ever seen here or anywhere! She weighed a whopping 1.2lbs
I could tell something was off with her from the get go however she was up and nursing with a little assistance, and I couldn’t see anything seriously wrong.

She wasn’t near as lively as her brother, but was still eating and slowly putting weight on. At 48hrs old we pulled them from mom and both took to a bottle almost instantly. She seemed to be striving on the bottle for about 6 days however took a turn for the worst at a week old. She still ate and although I wanted to I knew I couldn’t sit there all day as there were things to do around the farm outside. I checked on her regularly and fed her and her brother and she wasn’t getting better but wasn’t getting worse.
Unfortunately the last time I went out to check she had passed peacefully in her sleep.
This is the part of farming no one wants to see and no one wants to admit to, however it very much so happens.

I apologize if I take a few minutes to respond to inquiries about available animals, please bear with me and I will get back to everyone as soon as possible. Thank you and I hope everyone has a smoother year than we’ve had!

(Picture is shortly after birth to show just how tiny she was compared to her fairly tiny brother on the right)

INTRODUCTION!

Last weekend we picked up the first two additions of the year and I think it’s finally time to start introducing them!

First up is Shadow Vale Segway Maisie

This is a promising young Alpine doe kid out of Shamrock Hill CA Maelie and sired by Ancrest Sam’s Segway

I’m incredibly excited about the potential of this doe. She is a stylish young doe who is already showing incredible width and bone structure at a young age! Her dam Maelie is a gorgeous deep bodied doe with strong feet & legs. Her mammary system is held up by strong lateral attachments and her teats are large and well placed supported by a strong medial suspensory ligament. Her sire is a promising Junior Buck who comes from strong milky lines! His dam is Ancrest AI’s Sabrina who is a lovely doe with a strong front end and nice Angulation. She also has an incredibly strong mammary system with a strong medial suspensory ligament and strong RUH / RUA.

I’m very much so looking forward to seeing how this girl turns out!

The first additions of the year arrived this afternoon!Introduction posts to follow!

Well Kinsley clearly didn’t get the memo that we’re supposed to kid within the hours of 8am-8pm 🤦‍♀️

Anyway after a longggg labour, Kinsley decided to have her babies at 1am. She had one of the toughest delivery so far this year! Her buck kid was presenting with a head and two front feet tucked underneath, and her doe kid that arrived shortly after was trying to come out head first but sideways with no legs to be found! After a lot of patience and manoeuvring things around we successfully got both kids out safely!

These kids are already super lengthy and will be fun to watch unfold!

“Fiesta” had Triplets 2B + 1D
I’m absolutely ecstatic to get a doe kid from this pair. Anyone who knows this doe knows she’s only ever had ONE doe kid and that was 2yrs ago!

Safe to say this little doe kid is being RETAINED.

Pictured is Graceland NK French Franc *M (Castle Rock Nikolas +*S VG89 x Thistle Creek DJ Penny Lane) at 3wks fresh approx 12hr hold. This girl has been knocking it out of the park milking 2-2.5lbs every morning and night!

This girl will be placed on CGS 1 Day Milk Test in May, and CGS Classification in June, she will also have her first 305 day test in May along with the rest of the herd!

(Ignore the horrible clip job I haven’t had a chance to get her properly clipped!)

We have been quiet on here lately as the last couple weeks have been pretty rough. Most of the time you only ever see the good that comes with farming and not the bad, however this is the side that no one wants or likes to deal with.

A few weeks ago the whole herd got sick (some worse than others) out of the blue. We talked with our vet and made the decision to treat them with a long lasting penicillin in hopes to kill whatever was going around. After about 2wks most of the herd seemed to be doing better, until a few more does went back downhill. We treated them a second time, and thought we got them back out of the woods again. Unfortunately we come outside to do morning chores a week later to find one of our yearlings was having a miscarriage at about 2 months pregnant. This really took a toll on her and she went a few days of feeling ill before going back to her regular self. We thought it was finally over however we were unfortunately wrong and during the second bout of -30 weather we had another doe miscarry at about 2.5 months pregnant, this took a huge toll on her and she just started feeling herself again about a week ago.

And just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse it did. My all time favourite doe who is now 8yrs old this year, was miscarrying 30 days out from her due date. Thankfully she passed her kids and placenta easily, and bounced back really quickly. She came into milk, and we made the decision to keep her in milk, and she is now doing wonderful! After 3 does miscarrying we decided to send these kids and the placenta in to get to the bottom of this to make sure it didn’t happen again. After about two weeks of waiting we got the news that it seemed to be caused by a bad bag of feed. This is incredibly frustrating, and a reminder to always triple check your feed before giving it to your goats, and to throw any away that seems to possibly be bad, even if your not 100% sure, it’s better to be safe than sorry as this can happen to anyone!

We are now just days away from our first due dates and we are hoping the rest of this season goes smoothly as it’s, been a rough start!

Pictured is Wonderland GJ Ferrero Fiesta *M who is still 2wks out from her due date and is as wide as she is tall! 😬

Well our CGS 1 Day Milk Test & CGS Classification forms are filled out and waiting to be sent out next week!

Anddddd after a lot of thought and talking with fellow breeders we have made the rather large decision to participate in the CGS 305 Day Milk Test! We are incredibly excited (ok and a tad nervous 😬) to be participating in it this year as it’s been something we’ve tossed and turned about for a while!

I’m incredibly excited to see how our herd does on these programs and we will definitely be kept busy!
