Every time I see this calf I think about making this post, then I get busy with chores and forget. But I finally decided it needs to be made!
pioneervet hands down has the best people! From reception to techs to their vets.
2 weeks ago as I was filling a bunk feeder I had a calf throwing himself on the ground. I quickly filled the bunk, got out of the pen and pulled him to the side.
He was bloating. Although, I’d never have a calf that young bloat. So 911 for the vet to come out. I quickly finished feeding waiting for Hans.
After some quick diagnosis it was determined the likelihood of twisted gut was almost certain. So cur him open we did. By far one of the coolest experiences ever was holding bloated intestine while Hans found the twist, untwisted it, and watching the intestine immediately begin to shrink, go from deep purple to a normal pinkish, and movement taking place!
This guy wasn’t out of the woods yet though, he needed to make it the night. So I loaded the barn with cows, fluffed him a straw bed and turned on the heater.
The next morning I pulled mom back into the maternity pen where they hung out for a couple days to be safe.
This calf went from rolling on the ground, stretching out and suffering immensely to ninja running away from me 12 hours later!!
We are now 2 weeks post surgery, and this photo was taken 9 days after surgery.
I can not say enough amazing things about my Vet team and I am forever grateful for the quality of care they provide me and my animals!
