Good day folks! Long time no see.

A lovely load of knives from my friends at ! These knives come with an edge on them but they sure don't perform like they do once I'm done with them! Zips through paper like it's not even there, I can't wait for someone to try them in their kitchen 🀠

This was a fun project as it really emphasizes the benefit of doing things with production in mind. Set the jig, do ALL knives with one stone, then move up the grits. I had to use my Edge Pro for these as the handle placement precluded using the belt grinder. As always, the Edge Pro system did a fantastic job!

Stay tuned for more sharpening what-nots and whirlygigs.

Until next time, stay sharp! πŸ”ͺ

Good day folks! The sharpening game never fails to provide new and exciting challenges.

Here we have a couple of tips for leather working commissioned by my brother. The thinner of the two was actually ground to shape by me prior to sharpening, the wider one is the original dimensions.

As you can see, the bevels have a mirror polish on them and are wicked sharp after a run on the Edge Pro scissor/chisel attachment. The tools provided some challenge for sure because the shanks are totally round, making it hard to hold and line up. I did end up touching it up a bit on the belt grinder but that was mostly for stropping to get that final razor edge.

All in all, a fun challenge and I'm happy with the results, and I'm confident my brother will be as well 🀠

If you have need of leather tool sharpening (or any other kind of sharpening) give me a ring in the usual locations.

Until next time folks, stay safe and stay sharp! πŸ”ͺ

Good day folks! Lovely day in the shop working on these two sets of custom-made knife sets for a client in my home town. These are the first real Damascus steel knives I've sharpened and they sharpened beautifully. I'm very impressed by the work of the maker who made them, the blade was nice and flat and the steel had no inclusions or cracks of any kind. As always, a shout out to the folks at
for making the sharpening system to make this possible for me! Also a special shout out to for doing some much-appreciated advertising for me β™₯️

If you have some beautiful blades that you want restores to fighting form, drop me a line via DM here, text/call 403-421-0915, or email [email protected].

Good day folks! Fun day in the shop creating a blacksmith's knife for a client.

The knife is made from an old farrier's rasp, which is the texture you can see on either side of the blade. I forged the blade and handle to shape, did a preliminary grind, heat treat, temper, final grind, hand sanding and sharpening! The knife edge is super crisp, sharpened to 2300 grit using my Edge Pro from the fine folks at and then stropped to remove the tiny burr left on the edge. As you can see, it slips through a piece of paper super smooth and with no effort.

I'm very pleased with the way this project turned out, it gave me a chance to try my hand at using my new KMG-TX from which was an absolute treat to work on.

If you would like a one-of-a-kind blacksmith's knife, give me a shout on Instagram, Facebook, email [email protected] or call/text 403-421-0915.

Until next time, toodles!

Good day folks! Pardon the interruption in posting,I've been busy in the shop working in some great projects!

Pictured here is an herb chopper that was commissioned by my wife's cousin. I forged the blade from a piece of old truck leaf spring (roughly equivalent to 5160, a spring steel). After that, I did the rough grinding and established the profile and thickness of the blade.

In order to produce an edge that cuts well but also stays sharp through use, heat treating of the blade is necessary. I quenched the blade (only about 1 1/2" up the blade) in oil to harden it. In order to tradesomeof the hardness (and brittleness) I put into the blade, the blade was tempered I a toaster oven at 400F for 2 hours. This produces a nice straw gold oxide on the blade, though that ultimately gets removed in final grinding.

To bring the blade to completion, I did the final shaping and grinding of the blade, working my way up the grits from 36 to finish at 220. A final sharpening on my Edge Pro (shoutout to ) and stropping was done to establish the cutting edge, and boy is it sharp! Cuts through paper like it isn't even there πŸ”ͺπŸ“„

Lots of fun making this piece, I'm sure my clients will love it :)

Good day folks! A bit of a different post today but I'm super proud of it nonetheless. Today I am finally able to present the Ulu-style knife that my cousin commissioned from me as a Father's Day gift for her husband!

The blade was forged from an old leaf spring from a truck that was donated to me by . This means that the steel is ROUGHLY equivalent to 5160 (no surprise, a spring steel) which meant an oil quench to harden the blade. The black finish you see on the blade is accomplished the same way you season cast iron: apply oil, burn it on, repeat. I had to protect the cutting edge in water while I did this or I would have ruined the heat treat!

I chose figured maple for the handle and I think it contrasts with the darkness and mirror polish in the blade quite nicely.

On the back you will see the word "Corney", which is my clients' last name! I managed to etch the name into the blade using salt electroetching which was a first for me but very exciting that it worked!

All in all, I know it's not perfect but I'm super proud all the same. I learned a ton and I wanted to give a shout out Chris Green from .cat.metal for being my instructor and introducing me to the world of knife making.

Given this is my sharpening business is should mention that of course I sharpened it myself. I apologize that I have no videos demonstrating it's sharpness, but my client did say "holy sh*t that's sharp!" So I'll take that as a job well done πŸ™‚

Until next time folks, stay safe and stay sharp! πŸ”ͺ

Good day folks! Yesterday I had the pleasure of sharpening this set of kitchen knives for the great people over at Streats West Lethbridge and Streats South Lethbridge

All of the knives got a good working over to establish the proper edge geometry, and then I worked through the grits until all of them have a mirror-polished edge as you see in the second photo. Runs through a piece of paper as it it isn't even there!

If you want your knives restored to their former glory, hit me up via Instagram, Facebook, email, text, or my website. Stay safe, and stay sharp!

P.S. If you want a delicious treat stop by Streats and grab yourself a double taco combo with a chicken and waffle poutine, you won't regret it!

Hey there folks! Back at it again in the shop with another sharpening job.

A good family friend asked if I could get these Singer fabric scissors back up to s***f. The answer is: absolutely! You can see the straight, clean cuts these puppies leave in the shop towel underneath.

If you have fabric scissors, paper scissors, or even salon scissors βœ‚οΈ (lookin' at you hair dressers πŸ‘€) then hit me up via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or my webpage for pricing and to set up a sharpening.

As always stay safe, and stay sharp! πŸ”ͺ

Hey there folks! Been a while since I posted, my wife and I moved to Stirling recently so it has been a bit hectic. I still serve leth ridge and area so nothing has changed there!

Yesterday, I did a repair and sharpening on this lovely Chinese chef's knife. First time sharpening one of them and first time trying the folded paper no-touch test! I think it passed 😎

If you have some dull or damaged knives you want repaired, shoot me a message or visit aceofbladessharpening.ca for more contact options and pricing.

Hey folks! Bit of a different post here, over the last 6 months or so I've been taking up blacksmithing, thanks to Shawn Cunningham of and for making this possible!

The photo is the first knife I have ever attempted making, a (very rough) throwing knife made from a rail spike. Needs improvement but it just means I get to spend more time forging! Now I'll be able to both make AND sharpen knives, especially after attending a knife making course my lovely wife got me for Christmas!

Stay tuned, a new IG account will be made once I properly name my forging business πŸ”₯

Good day internet!

Back in the work room doing another load of items for a friend, first time doing a chisel! Left one is done, right hasn't been touched yet. I'm very impressed with the job I was able to do, and yes I definitely did unnecessarily polish it. My buddy will now surely be the envy of all other carpenters on the jobsite haha!

You may have also noticed the big bruiser axes in the corner, those puppies are up next 😎
