Hello everyone
Been a while since i posted here, but i wanted to talk about kennelling. A week ago i housed a year old that was terrified of the kennel. At this point learning kennel is moot. Yesterday i got a 5mo old puppy, i kennelled at night to help teach him to warn me if he needed to p*e, and also to teach him how to hold his bladder.

We went out at midnight to p*e and then back into kennel to sleep with calm tones. This morning we went out and then came back and i left him out while i snoozed for a bit more. After 15 min of pacing and whining, it was clear he did not know how to settle, so i put him back in kennel and he immediately calmed.

Initially he had no idea what the kennel did first him, but leaving him out and insecure, he realized how much nicer and safer the kennel felt. After getting up and going for a walk, he went right back into the kennel, when he realized i was leaving.

I did leave calming tones on, but once they realize the kennel is safe and they can use it to settle, then things get so much easier for them and you.

His escalation in getting my attention… staring me dead in the eyes, as if to say, “hey are you listening to me”… this is an important feature, a dog that doesnt give up, but forces you to listen when something is wrong

It is always sad when the places we go for support and community turn their backs on their people. They wonder why fewer and fewer people attend…

Dan Baker has filed a complaint with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission (SHRC) after he said his service dog was turned away from a Regina church for barking in an attempt to alert others of Baker's distress.

Heard a term i love “air jail”. But there is a difference between picking up to cuddle and picking up to stop bad behaviour. If you pick up and cuddle, your rewarding the behaviour.

CONGRATULATIONS to these two amazing dogs, its been a long three years, with many hurdles, but they did it

Dog picked this up at the park, probably just a piece of beggen strip but never know, he was told to drop and did. If this was tainted, I didn’t want him to ingest… why dropping even high value stuff on command is important

Hello
This is not meant to be a targeted message but a reminder for everyone that they represent the service dog community and when people have one bad experience with a handler and dog it reflects on all of us. A friendly reminder that whenever you are out with your dog, service dog or not, it is our responsibility to clean up after them. This is a bylaw in most places and even though service dogs are allowed places that other dogs are not, this bylaw still pertains to everyone. Please help set an example

Introducing a new animal into the home is always a challenge. It takes a minimum of three months for everyone to adapt to the new normal and learn how to communicate. Three months ago I introduced a new cat and we have made it to the point of no hissing and fighting and where everyone is comfortable being a foot away from eachother… time patience and understanding is important.
