There have been a lot of inquiries about potential litters for this year and next. I am currently planning a litter for this year, but I am not accepting applications at this time. I will be waiting until I have a confirmed pregnancy or until puppies have arrived. Keep an eye on my social media for announcements later this summer if my plans work out.

All dogs require handling and or grooming at some point in their lives. You owe it to them to teach them how to accept, tolerate and even enjoy these types of things!

Here are a few tips for starting puppies!
- start handling and gently restraining as part of your regular interactions.
- start brushing regularly, even when they don’t need it
- handle feet!
- look at teeth, ears, and mouth.
- have a helper to feed or reward the puppy during the process!
During all of this it’s important to be calm and gentle, but also a bit firm! Praise and reward good behavior and don’t be quick to let the dog pull away or have a tantrum. This sets them up for a bigger fight down the road.

Some tips for adult dogs who already don’t appreciate handling and grooming.
- use a likmat or something as simple as a tupperware lid with peanut butter on it. Every time the brush comes out the PB comes out. It’s a win win!
- keep sessions short but frequent
- sometimes it helps to elevate them. On a table or counter top.
- teach your dog to accept a muzzle so it’s not a trauma if your groomer or vet has to use one.
- be patient.
- look into some cooperative care games. There are some pretty cool ideas out there for nail care games and such! (Maybe I’ll do a list of them in another post!)
- know the level of grooming your breed requires and work on it. Doodles often have thick curly coats that tend to may. They need a lot of brushing and from the skin. Not just the top part. Talk to your groomer and learn how to brush properly at home.

Grooming and handling doesn’t need to be a pain for either of you- but you do need to work at it! This cutie is Sadie and when I got her she really hated all things about grooming. But we work on it and she’s a lot better! Who wouldn’t love a manicure where you get a cookie per toe nail!
