Had another recovery today.
Buck shot in the morning at 75 yards with a 20 gauge slug. Hunter was unable to find it. Came out with Argo after work. Argo made quick work of the track. Deer only went about 200 yards down a steep hill and was recovered within 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the coyotes got into it first.

Assisted couple of young hunters with the recovery of a nice deer.
Deer was shot Thursday 2 Nov. at 1700 h
20’ distance, 18’ high tree stand, x-bow, broad side.
4 people tracked between Thursday and Friday. Received the call Friday night and was unable to go out until the following day.
We started tracking ~0900 h Saturday Nov. 4th.
Restarted Argo 2x and he continued to go same direction. Tracked for 1 hr before recovering a nice 10 point deer. Unfortunately, the coyotes got to him first.

I wanted to express sincere gratitude to the Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Clinic. On Friday, Jan 21st my tracking dog Argo was healthy and full of life. After work, we went for a walk and a few hours after we returned, he began vomiting. He was unable to eat and every time he drank, he would vomit within minutes. This went on all night and in the morning he was vomiting blood. I called KVEC in Peterborough and brought him in first thing in the morning. Argo was already dehydrated and needed medical assistance. The KVEC staff were amazing and the veterinarians were able to determine the most likely cause and get him back on his feet within 24 hrs. The diagnosis was Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis from Clostridium perfringens bacteria. When we were on our walk, Argo must have ingested something while he was off-leash and it almost killed him. It was an expensive and stressful weekend, but I'm grateful to KVEC for saving my tracking partner's life.

Had another great day tracking with Argo today. Hunter shot a doe at 0900 h this morning with a shotgun and lost the trail in the marsh after about 155 m.
Argo and I came out after work to assist. Argo spent quite a bit of time at the hunter's point of loss going in circles, trying to figure out which way the doe came out since there was a lot of deer activity in the area. All of a sudden he began pulling hard and his posture was very confident. We progressed quite well through the marsh and were able to find more blood 388 m after the hunter's point of loss. From there, we confirmed blood every 20-50 m and it became evident that the blood we were seeing was fresh blood and the deer we were following was very much alive. I called the track at 905 m mark ~750 m after the hunter's point of loss as we lost daylight.
I'm very proud of Argo's performance today.

Had a great track today in Norwood. Hunter shot a deer first thing in the morning and lost blood. He marked the spot, backed out, and called for assistance. I could not get out until after 1630 h so it must have been a long wait but once we got on-site, Argo took the track and made short work of it. All in all, the track was

Great tips for tracking your deer.
Remember to call for a tracking tram if you can’t progress your track and avoid grid searching with multiple people if you have a K9 tracking team available.

Great, you made a good shot but what next? The very first decisions that you make after you release an arrow are critical to the eventual recovery -or not- o...
