Nova Scotia SPCA - Queens Foster

Nova Scotia SPCA - Queens Foster The Queens Branch was formed in 1994 and is a foster based branch that offers fostering, adoption and educational programs. We can help.

The Nova Scotia SPCA accepts animals into its care regardless of their age or health. We also follow no-kill principles which means we do not euthanize animals for space. Unexpected life situations happen and the SPCA strives to be approachable, non-judgemental and understanding. On average, healthy and friendly animals are adopted into loving families in less than two weeks! We take in animals by

appointment only so please call ahead. You simply have to call and arrange an appointment so the shelter can learn about what is the most suitable type of home for your pet. The appointment also allows the shelter to prepare a cozy space for your pet to make the transition as smooth as possible. We understand how difficult it is to surrender a pet and thank all owners who are able to make the best decision for their pet. In September 2024, Enforcement officers brought Meadow to the Cape Breton Shelter. She required extensive medical care, but she proved to be a trooper. ๐Ÿฅบ Friendly, social, and with a lot of love to offer, she was ready for adoption one month later. It took only a few moments for her soulful eyes to capture the hearts of her new family and for them to choose a special new name for her. ๐Ÿ’™

Sometimes, the perfect match is an older cat with so much love to give. Trixie, a nine-year-old Calico with arthritis, waited patiently in foster care until Grace found her. โœจ Adopting an adult cat wasnโ€™t just a good decision for Grace โ€“ it was the best one she ever made. Now, their days are filled with cuddles, playtime, and a bond that proves second chances can lead to the happiest endings. ๐Ÿ˜ป

Cold weather isnโ€™t just tough on hoomans, but on our pets too. Yes, even those who love winter. โ„

So, we decided to put ourselves in our petโ€™s paws as much as possible. Deputy Chief Inspector with the Nova Scotia SPCA, Paul Hunter, sat outside for 15 minutes at -11 degrees to show the dangers of leaving your pets outside in the cold. After only five minutes, his body was fighting the drop in temperature. ๐Ÿฅถ

Check out the full video below for tips on what to look for when your pet starts getting cold AND what to do if you find an animal in distress. โฌ‡

Our Story

Proudly following open-admission and no-kill principles, the Nova Scotia SPCA is a registered charity that helps companion animals in need. Every year, more than 16,000 pets are helped through animal rescue, progressive programs, and rehoming opportunities.

Some pets were abandoned, injured, homeless or abusedโ€ฆ but they all deserve a second chance.

We work one-on-one with them to rebuild their trust, fully vet them so they are safe and healthy, and give around-the-clock care until they find their forever family.

We do not receive any government funding for our shelters throughout the province. 100% of the money raised in each community stays in that community to help local pets in need. Donate today to make a difference here.
