The touch command is an obedience tool that I use with my dogs on a daily basis. It’s incredibly useful in situations where I might want to take my dogs attention away from another dog or stressful situation for example, or send them away to a targeted area .
Zoe was with us this past week for a board and train. This week we covered some more advanced off leash e-collar training. Went through all of her obedience as a refresher. We also focused on her “place” command as she is very excitable and we are trying to promote calmness. Holding her accountable to her place command using the ecollar stimulation allows her to clearly understand that she is to stay until her break command is given.
Today we’re going over some refresh work with Zoe who’s back with us for a board and train. Ecollar conditioning, sit stays, down stays, and the rules of play. (Engage and drop) She’s a fast girl who loves the chase!
We’ve got Zoe and Chip back for another board and train this week. We’ll be going over some refresher training today.

Working on some drills with my personal dogs today. Tightening up our heel command, place command and engagement. When working with multiple dogs it’s important to cue the command first with the dogs name, followed by the command to avoid confusion between dogs.
We always begin in a low distraction environment when learning new commands and we then transition out into the real world once the dog has a good understanding. I go from practicing these commands in the home to the driveway and then out into the real world under real distractions. Marking the command with a “good” lets the dog know to keep up what he/she is doing.
