Hey all!! I’ve been a little quiet, life has been busy to say the least.
November is senior per month and you know how I love senior pets!
Here are some good tips to ensure your senior cats live happy, healthy lives as they age. ❤️😻❤️

🐾 Ensuring a Wonderful Life for Your Aging Cat 🌟

Your feline friend deserves the best, especially as they gracefully age. Here are some essential tips to make their senior years their happiest:

1️⃣ Monitor Their Movement: Keep an eye on your cat's daily habits. Are they still following their usual routine and taking naps in various spots around your home? Cats who aren't feeling their best tend to move less and stick to a few sleeping areas and are often not as interested in food as they would be.

2️⃣ Muscle Condition: As you pamper your cat with affection, pay attention to their muscle condition. Check how easy it is to feel the bumps along their spine and the bones of their hips. Ideally, these should not be palpable in a healthy cat. Ideally, firm muscle should be palpable in a healthy cat.

3️⃣ Lumps and Bumps: While petting your cat, gently feel for any lumps or bumps. If you notice any, make a note of what, when, and where you felt them and share this information with your veterinarian.

Taking these steps will help ensure that your aging cat enjoys the quality of life they truly deserve. 🐱❤️

Today is the day we celebrate dogs!!

I am a sucker for a wiggly bum, waggy tail and some sweet puppy dog eyes. ❤️🐶❤️

Some fun facts about our four legged friends.

1. Their sense of smell is at least 40x better than ours.

2. Some have such good noses they can sniff out medical problems.

3. Dogs can sniff at the same time as breathing.

4. Some dogs are incredible swimmers. Newfoundlands are so good in the water that for years they’ve been used as water rescue dogs.

5. Some are fast and could even beat a cheetah!

6. Dogs don’t sweat like we do. The only place that dogs sweat like us is on their paws, so instead they pant to cool down.

7. Your dog could be left or right-pawed.

8. Along with their noses, their hearing is super sensitive.

9. Dogs have 18 muscles controlling their ears.

10. Dogs are about as intelligent as a two-year-old.

Giving Liquid Medication to Dogs

The easiest way to give your dog a liquid medication is to use a treat specially designed for this purpose or mix it with some canned food. To ensure your dog swallows the medication, it is best to hand feed the medicated food or treat, rather than mixing it into a large portion that the dog may not completely consume.
Some dogs may be unwilling to eat medicated food or may have dietary restrictions that prevent you from using this technique. If this is the case, you will need to administer the medication directly into your dog's mouth.

If you need help giving medication to your dog or cat, reach out, we can help.

Don’t forget Pawlooza is this Saturday! Come on out to this amazing festival celebrating all things dog!!!
Our booth is across from the main stage, so be sure to stop by and say hello!
It’s going to be a hot one so make sure to keep your pups in mind if you are bringing them. Make sure they get to shade and the “cool off” tents and take lots of water breaks!
If your pup is a Nervous Nelly, it might be a good idea to let them chill at home in the a/c and bring them home a treat instead.
Hope to see you there!!!

It's National Immunization Awareness Month. My Ginny is due for her vaccines so I'll be booking her appointment soon!

As a Veterinary Technician, I am not able to provide vaccinations myself, but I feel very strongly about their importance to help to protect your pet from several potentially serious and fatal diseases.

Reach out to your family veterinarian to see what vaccines are best suited to your pet's lifestyle. To help with some of your questions, the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association has provided this link of answers to commonly asked vaccine questions.
