Follow along our little running series, starting with GEAR! Its super important you find a way to carry essentials on runs with your dog! Treats, poop bags and water are essential which is why I love this camel back! it can be held in and strapped to your wrist OR tied to your dogs harness!
A topic for another day: while I do not feed a ton of treats on runs with my dog, I do like to carry some incase I need them and also definitely in the learning stages of jogging with me!

Here is a perfect real life example of how we set up meet and greets with other dogs when we know they are social and comfortable!
One dog is kept calm, the other is the boomerang - the dog we spend most time moving in and out of the other dogs space. This is also how we teach dogs to greet people and to manage jumping!
This set up takes TONS of practice for your dog to succeed which is why we spend time doing reps in our classes!

The first time I tried to brush Buffy it did not go well- instead, she snapped at me and then looked at me suspiciously every time I tried to approach her.
Immediately I took a step back and started to introduce the tool to Buffy in another way but as you can see it wasn’t successful!
Buffy was still suspicious of me and it started to bleed into our relationship in different ways like avoidance and a further discomfort of being touched.
Buffy wasn’t one to seek attention through physical touch so it wasn’t something I wanted to poison more.
I took a break from attempting to brush her to instead create a better plan!
Utilizing cooperative care we started to condition an area to hang in first before tools were introduced.
When tools were introduced, she was allowed to stand up and move away and in the beginning, she spent more time off her station than on it.
Over time she realized she could control her session! When tools were introduced, we did so ever so slowly as shown in the second part of this video.
She is still showing some signs of stress however she opts to stick around for some yummy @stellaandchewys raw coated kibble (no, we aren’t sponsored by them but would be open to it 😉) while having the brush move around her.
Buffy still cannot tolerate long rounds of brushing but we do smaller sections a couple times a week.
PS- she is now a complete and utter snuggle bug and seeks contact from me regularly.
