Purrfect Haven Cat Rescue held their first annual Walk-a-thon this past weekend and boy oh boy, it was hot! Laurie and Pam volunteered at their First Aid table and there were lots of door prizes to be won... and food trucks!
Although the turnout wasn't what they had hoped for (due to the extreme heat), money was raised for a great cause and we all had alot of fun!
Thanks to everyone for their donations and support to this very worthy cause! 🐈🐱

Ear mites are tiny parasites that can found in the ears of dogs, cats, rabbits and other mammals which feed on the wax and oil inside the ear canal. Symptoms of an ear mite infestation can include dark discharge (looks like coffee grounds) or scratching and can only be seen by taking a sample of that discharge and checking it under a microscope.

Even though they are highly contagious via direct contact with another infested animal, they can be fairly easily treated with a thorough ear cleaning at our clinic as well as anti-parasitic medication.

Call today if you have any concerns about these little critters!

UPDATE - HE'S HOME!!! WOOHOO!

PLEASE HELP!!

One of our clients is missing her cat, Baby. He hasn't been seen since 3pm on Monday, May 20 so PLEASE keep an eye out in the Sanders St neighbourhood!! If you can also check your backyards, garages and under your porches, his owner and ourselves would be eternally grateful!

He is a nervous little tabby and isn't used to be outside. Please also feel free to share this post, we will keep you all posted if/when he is found.

THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of our hearts ❀πŸ₯Ή

FAD or Flea Allergy Dermatitis, is the most common skin disease found in dogs and cats caused by an external parasite. A flea will bite the pet to take a blood meal, and the saliva of the flea will cause an allergic chemical reaction of the skin.

Often when pets come in with skin rashes, its FAD. Its even more prevalent in the fall after the fleas have had a chance to reproduce.

See our blog below for more info! πŸͺ³

Happy Victoria Day!

We are closed today but please refer to the list of alternative clinics on our website in the event of an emergency. We will re-open tomorrow morning at 8am, resuming regular business hours.

If there are fireworks in your neighbourhood, remember to keep your pets indoors, play some music or have the TV on to help drown out the loud booms and keep them in an area close to you so they know they are safe and sound!

If your pets are more anxious about loud noises like fireworks or thunderstorms, we can also provide some mild sedative to help keep them calm and stress free. Call us today if you'd like to discuss further!

Hope everyone has an amazing long weekend and enjoys your extra day off! πŸ–πŸŽ†

Colder weather and higher risk? Tick-borne diseases are spreading in Canada…and our cold winters aren’t helping!

New Canadian research shows that when a Blacklegged tick is infected with the Lyme disease bacteria it may be more likely to be active on mild days during the colder months AND more likely to survive cold weather compared to uninfected ticks!

Let's face it, they are inevitable and seem to be moving further into the Southwestern Ontario region as each year passes. They are never going to go away!! Year round prevention may be the norm in the upcoming years!

Have you seen our tick table yet? So far we have removed 5 ticks from our patients and the number just keeps growing! As you can see by the little pill bottle, we like to keep them here for "show and tell"!!

Also, we have had 7 dogs that tested positive for Lyme and Anaplasmosis disease which are both carried by ticks 😬
Both diseases are treatable with antibiotics however prevention is key!! πŸ’―

Call us today if you still need to pick up your prevention for this year! πŸ“ž

You know, sometimes things just don't work out as we had planned! We always try to accommodate everyone as best we can but once in a while, we have to tweak the plans (or appointments) here at Fairmont.

So we just want to say Thank You to our amazing community when we have to call to reschedule an appointment due unforeseen emergencies. It often takes a small village to help those in need, when needed... so thank you all for being so great when called upon!! Hope everyone has an amazing weekend! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘β€
