With the recent concerns with Avian Flu and cats getting sick from eating a raw diet - it is very important to understand the risks of feeding a raw diet at this time. Viruses that can cross over from one species to another and place humans at risk are downright scary - we don't need another pandemic. For any cats and dogs eating a raw diet - make sure you understand the risks. Making different food choices at this time might be wise. And Science supports a cooked meat diet being more nutritious for cats and dogs.

The FDA has issued a directive to pet food producers to ensure that their food safety plans address H5N1 influenza contamination issues. It’s in response

A HEADS UP Public Service Announcement..............................

The London Humane Society is reporting a parvovirus outbreak in London - the two parks mentioned are in the south end and one is near the emergency clinic. I don't have any other details at his time but if you have a puppy or unvaccinated dog I would avoid those areas. This disease is preventable through appropriate vaccination and most adult dogs will have great immunity to this horrible disease. It is very important that puppies get booster vaccinations every 21 - 28 days to protect them from this and puppies should avoid contact with unvaccinated dogs. It is a rare disease in adult dogs but if your adult dog has not received a parvo vaccine at appropriate intervals they are also at risk. Prevention is the key. The science on this disease is very well known and vaccines save lives.

This is a local Woodturner who has made this beautiful wood cremation urn. Jonathon will will be at the local Holly Jolly Market at the Hellenic Community Centre this Saturday. He also makes many other lovely wood creations. I always like to support a local artist. And finding a beautiful piece of art to remember a treasured pet is a wonderful way to hold on to those memories. He is available through his Knottybits Woodturning page for commissioned orders. With the holiday season approaching - he also has beautiful gifts available as well.

This Vessel (pet Urn) is made of Maple, Walnut and Mulberry (thunderbird ring) it is 9 inches tall, and 6 inches at the widest. It is 100 cubic inches, (holds up to approx 100 pounds of pet ashes)

This Art Work will be for sale at Holly Jolly Christmas Market tomorrow. it will sell for $425 - We do take commissioned orders to make your urn special.

Ticks are very active right now. This is a tiny nymph stage that a friend took off of her dog. It is important to continue tick prevention throughout the winter months. And winter ticks in this area are often positive for Lyme disease.

Rabies is very real and with a recent loss of a human life in Ontario from rabies. Need to make sure all our domestic pets are vaccinated including indoor cats. Bats are the biggest concern in urban environments and cats and people will connect with bats indoors. Hopefully this person steps forward or the person bitten faces some painful injections.

We are seeking information about a dog involved in a bite incident in St. Thomas on October 29.

We want to know the vaccine history of the dog to help the victim determine if they need treatment for rabies prevention.

----------------

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. at Kettle Creek Dog Park, located at 44070 Mapleton Line, St. Thomas, ON.

A man was bit by an off-leash dog while at the dog park. The dog is described as a black Labrador Retriever. The owner is described as female, aged 40-50, with light brown to blonde hair. The owner had two off-leash dogs – the Labrador Retriever and a Bull Terrier – at the time of the incident.

Public Health wants to confirm the vaccination status of the dog to allow the victim and their health care provider to determine next steps related to rabies post-exposure prophylaxis.

If you are the owner of the dog or have information about the incident, please contact Southwestern Public Health at 1-800-922-0096 and ask to speak with a Public Health Inspector.

Anyone looking for a very large dog to add to the family ??? I have been watching this guy over at Paws Across the Water - he looks a wee bit Pointery to me. They are looking for a foster, a foster to adopt, or a new owner for this guy.

Mac sounds like a lovely soul - he just needs to find a new family. The more this post is shared the more likely they are to find them.

Cute Walter is participating in a seizure study in Guelph. These studies can be super helpful for the researchers and for the dog. This study and others are looking for suitable candidates. Furthering research knowledge helps us all.

LOOKING FOR DOGS: Like people, pets can have seizures and be diagnosed with Epilepsy. Approximately 1 in 20 dogs will experience a seizure in their lifetime. Seizures can be quite scary and there are many different kinds and causes! It’s important to identify the type of seizure for successful treatment and management.

Dr Fiona James and her research team use electroencephalography (EEG) to confirm if seizure activity is happening, as well as the type and frequency of seizures.

Pictured here is Walter, a recent OVC Clinical Trials Superhero! He is wearing his EEG head gear and harness - doesn’t he look so handsome!?! 😍

By participating, you and your dog can join Walter in improving our understanding of canine epilepsy and contribute to the advancement of veterinary medicine.

Comment ‘EPILEPSY’ below and we will send you the link to our recruiting EEG-focused seizure studies! 🧠

Please share this post. We are actively looking for study participants! 🐶
