Road closure on Tuesday - so if you are heading our way - please come along Colonel Talbot to Main Street or you will be redirected down the side streets. Please leave extra travel time - we have tried to reach all our appointments for Tuesday to give them a heads up.

One-day road closure: Main Street between Campbell Street and Colonel Talbot Road

On Tuesday, October 14, Main Street will be closed between Campbell Street and Colonel Talbot Road while private utility repairs take place. The road will reopen later that day.

During this time, traffic will be detoured to Colonel Talbot Road, Pack Road and Bostwick Road. Sidewalk restrictions will be in place, with detour signage in place.

Businesses in the area remain open and accessible.

People driving are advised to expect delays when travelling through this area and follow detour signs to reach their destinations.

Transit riders can visit the LTC website for the most up-to-date information about any detours or service changes.
Below: A map of the approximate limits of the upcoming road closure at 2368 Main Street.

I LOVE cool coats - my dogs wear them in hot weather. Julia over at Market Pet in Komoka can help with finding the right size. This is handsome Border Terrier Gravy acting as the model. I have spoken to a number of people lately about them - I have been using them for years and won't be without them. TOMORROW may be too hot to even be outside so be careful and lots of water for everyone.

We're having a HEAT WAVE! Ooof, it's going to be hot this week across Eastern North America.

And we have cooling coats for dogs (sorry folks, we can't help people yet), from RuffWear!

Stop by the shop and we'll help get your pup fitted or snag one on the website at https://www.need-some-sun.com/accessories

Gravy is wearing an Extra Small, in blue.

Happy to answer questions!

An Important PSA - we have had two positive Canine Heartworm cases in the last few weeks at the clinic and this is very worrisome. We rarely ever see positives because most of the dogs in this area are on prevention but if your dog is not on appropriate prevention strategies they are at risk. Obviously worms in the heart are not a good thing. Mosquitoes love this hot humid weather we are having and all dogs are at risk in this area from June to November. If you travel south in the winter they are at risk year round. If you have adopted a dog from a warmer climate - these dogs should be retested after arriving in Canada and remain on prevention for a period of time after arrival. All dogs should be on monthly heartworm preventives during our warmer months. In the last few years some people have been opting out of prevention whether this be for economic or other reasons - once a positive dog is in the area - mosquitoes are able to spread it around locally. If you choose not to use heartworm preventive medications PLEASE have your dog tested annually for this so if they are infected we can catch it early which allows for earlier intervention, prevent spread to other dogs and potentially less expensive treatment costs. Treatment can be very expensive and also some treatments are very hard on the dog with potential for serious side effects - Prevention is the proper way to address this serious condition and the blood tests are easy to do - if your dog has not yet had their 4Dx test now is the time to be testing.

Heartworm prevention is not expensive for most dogs it is between $55 - $125 for 6 months of prevention with HeartGard Plus or Interceptor Plus depending on the size of your dog - so between $10 - $20/month and both also include prevention for some intestinal parasites. Other products like NexGard Spectra which we recommend for total parasite control including fleas and ticks can be much more costly - it is the flea and tick part of those medications that adds to their cost. Tick borne diseases are also on the rise. But Heartworm prevention alone is very affordable for most budgets. The products we use have long safety records and are well tolerated by most dogs. We NEVER like to get a positive test as this disease is very preventable. We are hoping the rest of our testing season just brings us boring negative results.
