Fireworks can be stressful for our furry friends, so, with long weekends, and other summer activities we wanted to share a few simple steps that can make a big difference for your pup:
š Create a Safe Space: Set up a cozy, quiet area with their favorite toys and blankets to help them feel secure.
šµ Background Noise: Play calming music or white noise to drown out the sound of fireworks.
š¤ Stay Calm: Your calm behavior will reassure your pup. Offer gentle pets and soothing words.
š Adaptil Products: Use Adaptil to create a calming, reassuring environment using the science of pheromones.
ā½ Distraction: Keep them engaged with interactive toys or treats.

Hi everybody my name is Zeus. As you know Zeus is the god of the sky in ancient mythology. In other words, heās the ātop dogā (ha-ha). So, now about this Zeusā¦me! Iām a 10-year-old gentle giant. When I first met the good people at GR and my amazing foster family, I had severe separation anxiety and hated to be left alone. Now I get this medication that calms me down and Iām so much better. I would still rather be with you but the medication sure helps. I love every person I meet and do a happy-dance whenever I meet anyone new. I am not a fan of other dogs and always pulled on my leash whenever I see a dog. I now have this thing called a āgentle leaderā and has it ever helped. I still pull if I see another dog or a squirrel or any critter for that matter but my foster dad says I am improving every day on my walks. I am a big happy goofball and just love being made a fuss over. Loud noises donāt bother me. Iām not a big barker except when I need to go out or itās dinner time (I have to admit I do love my food). I do need my daily walks to keep my weight down but Iām not overly energetic so a few jaunts a day and some happy dances are all the exercise I need to keep me fit as a fiddle. My foster dad has really helped me with my training for separation anxiety and being grumpy with other dogs and he believes I will only get better over time with consistent training and love. Iām going to sign off now with my favourite Zeus saying: A true hero isnāt measured by the size of his strength, but by the size of his heart. And I have a very big heart which Iād love to share with you.

HI everybodyā¦my name is Honey and Iām a 14-year-old Golden/Husky mix. I have lived a good life and have been loved and cared for but my lovely owner had to go to a place to be cared for and I couldnāt go along. So, the good people at Golden Rescue have taken me in and I now live with my amazing foster mom who is simply the bees-knees. She often looks at me, smiles, and sings a mixed-up version of that Monks song Great Legs, Shame About the Face except she sings Great Face, Shame About the Legs š. Thereās nothing wrong with my legs ~ well, my back end is a little weak but thatās due to my age. Itās just that when I lie down, my legs look wonky. See the photoā¦funny, eh? Who knows how long Iāll be around; however, I sure would appreciate a little space in your heart and home for me. My favourite pastime is sitting on the porch watching the world go by. My eyes are still good but I canāt hear too well, but worry not, I still remember all the worldās lovely sounds. I am on some daily medication, but who isnāt at my age? As much as I love people, I am a bit grumpy around dogs and I tend to guard my food so being the only pet in the family is a must. I am gentle with my treats. You can touch me anywhere (except my paws). Loud noises donāt bother me because I canāt really hear them (teehee). I am not a big barker and you can leave me alone if you have to go out without me. Well, thatās my story. I hope we might be able to meet soon. You canāt miss me. Iām the nice girl with the āgreat faceā sitting on the porch watching the world go by.

I am Rudy and I am a 2.5-year-old boy who came over the big water from Istanbul. My awesome foster dad says that I am a really smart boy, affectionate and loving. I love my walks and just canāt get enough of your attention. I would do better in a calmer environment, otherwise, I will just feed off the excitement around me. I love to run and search and smell things while out on my walks so be watchful about what might be on the ground around me. I would love a large fenced yard and lots of walks would be great. I could use some training on the leash thingy, jumping up and greeting people. I tend to get bored easily and can be a bit of a chewer when I am bored (plants, bedding, etc.) so donāt leave me alone for too long unsupervised. I am a friendly, happy and very curious boy who loves human affection and I have a ton of energy. So, if you are looking for a buddy, his name just might be Rudy!
Rudy is currently in the Newmarket, ON area.

Hi everyone my name is Willow and Iām 2.5 years old. When I met the good people at GR, I needed a big operation for my āEctopic ureterā (wow, thatās a mouthful for me) because I was always leaking and kept getting what you call UTIās. It was not very nice but Iām all fixed now. Thank you GR and thanks to my amazing foster family and my doctor for seeing me through my surgery and recovery. Iām a happy, healthy girl now. I take meds and they cost about $60/mo but Iām not sure for how longā¦maybe foreverā¦I just donāt know. I love people a LOT and I also love all other dogs. Playing with any of my canine cousins is just about my favourite thing so a family with another playful dog would be ideal. I am pretty well trained and am actually not bad on the leash and only pull if I see another dog or a critter. I do love chasing critters though so a secure yard would be ideal for me unless you intend to leash walk me everywhere (and no cats please). I am gentle with my treats. You can touch me anywhere. I hardly ever bark. Loud noises donāt bother me and you can leave me alone if you have to go out without me. My foster mom says: āWillow is a loveable girl who will steal your heart. She is easy to care for and just wants to be loved.ā Thanks for taking such great care of me! Now, the next stage of my journey begins ~ itās so exciting!

Hello there, I'm Roscoe! I am an approximately 3 year old male Malinois Mix. Life was one big playground for me before coming to The Humane Society as a stray dog in rough condition, so my friends here don't have much background on me. I am not sure what type of home I lived in or the type of family members (human or animal) I'm used to being with.
As a Malinois type, I've got energy to spare and a knack for turning ordinary days into extraordinary adventures. I love to spend my time running around outside and playing with my toys, showing off to everyone. I have the ability to bring joy and laughter to anyone who cares to play with me. I'm a bit of a goofball, but don't let that fool you - I'm pretty sharp too. Solving enrichment puzzles, learning new cues and sniffing out some good treats, that's my jam! I'm also quite the independent fellow, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy good company (especially if you throw my toy). I'm all about balance, you see.
I've been slowly gaining weight, healing my wounds over the last bit, and working on my socialization in the shelter but the stress of the environment does not particularly help, so I am looking for a Shepherd or similar breed experienced home to bloom in. A detached home with a fenced yard would be best as I have been out wandering before. I am looking for an active buddy who can keep my mind and body occupied. I may be able to go to a home with another confident, well socialized dog, but a slow, positive introduction would be required first.
If you're looking for a loyal friend, a lively playmate, and a smart companion, I'm your guy! If Roscoe seems like a good fit for you, fill out an adoption application. If you seem like a good fit, our Adoptions Team will reach out to book a meet and greet.

HEY! I'm Duncan! I'm currently available for adoption at The London Humane Society! Aren't I just the most handsome 2 year old black German Shepherd you've ever seen?! Well, my friends here thiinnnk that I'm 2 years old, but they say that I'm a "stray" (whatever that means!), so they don't know much about where I came from, but they've learned a lot about me since I've been here!
Three words to describe me are: loyal, intelligent, and active. And hey, I'm not too bad to look at either! I'm a very smart boy who is so so so eager to please. I have some of my basic commands down-pat, so my new family should make sure that they continue to work on my training with me. I can walk well on a leash when I want to, but I'm a naturally active and high-energy breed who has a very strong prey drive. Because of this, my people need to be able to meet me on my high-energy level and need to be able to handle a big strong boy like me! My best home would be with someone who has large breed experience and is confident in handling and working with all my energy. This also means that I need to go to a home with a fully-fenced in backyard so that I can get all my energy out in the safety of a contained outside space. I must admit that I am an independent boy: I'm not a fan of other animals in my space (what can I say, I want the spotlight for myself)! Because of this, there shouldn't be any other dogs, cats, or small critters in my future home. I am so high-energy and so strong that it's best that I go to home with no small children. I don't really understand the purpose of toys...but I LOVE puzzles. Mental enrichment like puzzle feeders or treat toys are sooooo good for my active brain.
Now, if you're familiar with my breed you'll know about a little something called hip dysplasia. Before I go home, one of my friends from the Animal Health Department will speak with you about my hips and any future care that might be needed.
If you are interested in Duncan, please complete and return an adoption application in person or send to [email protected] for review. If you seem like a potential match for Duncan, our Adoptions Team will reach out to book a meet. Please note that my new family will need to schedule multiple meets with me at the shelter before they can officially take me home.

Hey, HEY! I'm Josie, or Thing Two! I am the outgoing, goofy senior sister with a young soul. I love to play and make people laugh with my funny antics. I will always great you with a full mouth grin, tongue hanging out with joy! I tend to try and steal the spotlight, I am a lover of any attention I can get, especially if it involves some belly rubs and brushing.
Although I am an older, larger lady, I love to play with my toys and bask in the nature. I am still a pup at heart and will need some extra mental and physical stimulation throughout the day. Since arriving at HSLM and being on a consistent feeding schedule and enrichment routine (including daily walks, outdoor play time etc.,), my weight has decreased and I am feeling brand new, but I will still be the first one to wake you up for breakfast!
My sister Okesha is a little more laid back, so she needs me close by for confidence, we're two peas in a pod, always looking out for each other.. We've shared all of our greatest and hardest moments together, including transitioning into the shelter in our later years. Our friends at HSLM learned quickly that we're a package deal and we don't do anything apart. We feel that we are best as a duo, but could be open to a laid back kitty friend with a slow introduction. We can be dog selective, and I can definitely become overstimulated when I meet new animals while on a leash. We will announce our love for you out loud, so a detached home may be best. We love to go for car rides, and do well with meeting new people. We may bark at first, but once we get to know you then we are gentle and loving.
I promise to bring joy and laughter into your life, and Okesha promises the same. We're looking for a forever home where we can shower our people with love and loyalty in our golden years. Adopt us, and you'll gain two best friends who will love you unconditionally.
If you're ready for double the love and double the laughs, fill out an application to adopt us. Completed applications can be sent to our Adoptions Department for review at [email protected]. If we seem like a good fit, the Adoptions Team will reach out to book a meet.

Hi there, I'm Okesha, or Thing One, some might say.. I am the quiet, laidback senior sister with a heart full of love and an appreciation for belly rubs and ear scratches. I'm as sweet as honey...always ready to greet you with my soft loving eyes, slow saunter and the wag of my tail. My sister Josie tends to be an attention-hog, but I will certainly try to get my own time in when I see her getting extra loving.
Although I am an older, larger lady, I still love to romp around outside and be active. Since arriving at HSLM and implementing a consistent feeding schedule and enrichment routine (including daily walks, outdoor play time etc.,) into my daily life, my weight has come down and I am feeling great! I know my limits and might be a bit slower than Josie, but I have the drive to get what I want. I am a bit stubborn, but in all the best ways.
My sister Josie and I are inseparable, we've shared all of our greatest and hardest moments together, including transitioning into the shelter in our later years. Our friends at HSLM learned quickly that we're a package deal and we don't do anything apart, and we have been amazing house-guests for our foster family. We feel that we are best as a duo, but could be open to a laid back kitty friend with a slow introduction. Josie can be dog selective, and I definitely feed off of her energy as a protective sister. Our favourite things include basking in the outdoors and food. We will announce our love for you out loud, so a detached home with a yard may be best.
If you're ready for double the love and double the laughs, fill out an application to adopt us! Completed applications can be sent to our Adoptions Department for review at [email protected]. If we seem like a good fit, the Adoptions Team will reach out to book a meet.
Before going home a member of our Animal Health Department would like to speak with you about our required Urinary Diet!

Our next couple of adoptable dogs come to us from the !
Hiya! I'm Sox, your friendly neighborhood pup. I am an approximately 3 year old Lab mix looking for my forever play pal!
Now, you might be wondering how a classy canine like me ended up here. Well, it's quite the tale. See, I was chasing my tail - as you do - and somehow ended up following another pup into a nice ladies backyard. She called my friends at HSLM, who brought me for a fun van ride and voila. I waited for my people for my reclaim period, but no one came. Oops! But hey, I've got a silver lining for you - I'm up for adoption to find my new family!
My days are filled with tail wags and playful leaps. I'm a friendly chap, always ready to greet every person with a wagging tail and a slobbery lick. My goofy antics are sure to keep you laughing, and my boundless energy means I'm always up for a game of fetch or a brisk walk, I am quite strong, so an easy walk harness and continued positive reinforcement training is recommended in my new home. I love playing with toys especially if they make noise!! But, I am not super gentle with them so I may need tough toys or only toys I cant rip apart. Because I have lots of energy and like to talk sometimes, an active adult family with a detached home and a fenced yard would be my ideal home.
My eyes, they say, are like galaxies, something called immature cataracts, you'll notice it when you meet me, my vision is definitely not 20/20, but I still get around quite well. But, my new family needs to know this to help me succeed in my new home. I may need some help getting used to stairs, doorways and all the changes in light when first learning about my new digs! I do not really enjoy most other dogs here at the shelter, I usually give off big scary barks when they come close. But that could be because I can't see them well enough... and cats, well I've never experienced them at the shelter before. So I may be best as the only animal in my new home.
Adopting me means gaining a devoted friend and a partner in adventure. I promise to fill your days with laughter, loyalty, and lots of love! If you think Sox could be a good fit for you, fill out an application today! If your application is approved our Adoptions Department will reach out to book a meet and greet!

Our second adoptable dog from is Stella, a 4 year old Labrador mix with an adoption fee of $400.00!
HELLO THERE. Oh sorry, just making sure you could hear me. My name is Stella and I am a 4 year old girl looking for a new place to call my own. I am a big yellow ball of energy and definitely know how to make a first impression. I am a pretty hyper girl so I need a super active home that can keep up with my antics and work on my training.
I am a very sweet girl but I need lots of training and socialization to understand what is right and what is wrong. I can be overactive and anxious in some settings so patience will be a great skill to have with me. I am learning that is is not very nice to bulldoze my way through doors and drag you towards the car and such. I am maybe a bit too enthusiastic about some things and will need lots of reminders and rewards. Be warned that I am also a trouble maker sometimes and you'll need to keep an eye on me. I can and will jump onto low surfaces like coffee tables to get to things that I want and I am big enough to counter-surf for food because I think yours looks yummier than my own.
I am good once we get out on a walk and have been doing great on an easy-walk harness, but I can get a bit rowdy while you are trying to leash me up. A home that can be dedicated and patient with every aspect of training is the kind of home that I need. I am a dog that needs tons of exercise to curb all the energy I have. I would thrive in a detached home with a contained yard, and a family with no small children since I am not always aware of my strength and my surroundings. I am learning lots about being respectful with other animals but reading social cues is still a work in progress, I also seem to like chasing small cats, critters, and dogs when I can. A home with no other animals to start would be ideal for me while I we work on my manners and social skills.
If you are looking for a wild but loveable dog, I might be your gal. If you would like to meet me please submit an application online or in-shelter, and a member of our Adoption Department would be happy to book you an appointment if approved!

Our first adoptable dog is available through named Molly!
Name: Molly
Breed: Shepherd/Lab Cross
Birthdate: August 24, 2022
Weight: 51 lbs
Gender: Female
Good with cats: No
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with Children: Yes, over 7
Fenced Yard Required: Preferred
House Trained: Yes
Location: London, Ontario
With her warm brown eyes and big smile, Molly is sure to steal your heart. She faced some serious neglect from her previous owners, and is making up for it with extra love and cuddles to give. At just over one year old, Molly is house-trained, knows a few commands, and is eager to learn more. Treats are especially helpful with training. Molly really likes playing with toys and can be playful with other dogs. She would love a home with a big backyard where she can run and play. A home without cats or small children would be best because she plays very enthusiastically. Molly would love to live with an active and patient owner who is just as happy going for a long hike or cuddling up on the sofa. If you think Molly could be your best friend furever, get in touch, because she would love to meet you.
Molly is micro-chipped, spayed and up to date on all vaccines and preventatives. Her adoption fee is $650.00 each and will include all health records.

This is Darwin! Darwin has been through it all, from little lady, to large and in charge, to senior miss. Her adventures came to a slow stop when she started getting older so her owners started looking for some help. They found rehab! She started coming to us in June 2022 with limited mobility. She wasnāt able to jump or play significantly anymore. After some rehab therapy, she has been able to jump over the ottoman to jumping on her kid siblings bed to now doing stairs in the house comfortably! She has had her ups and downs but overall Darwin is happy and healthy and now able to play again! #rehab #rehabadventures #vetmed

Are you a fit for ZiZi?
ZiZi needs a special home with people who know and understand cat behavior. She was dropped off anonymously so nothing is known about her previous life. She is exhibiting some possibly stress-related behaviours (eg. excessive grooming resulting in bald spots), and more time is needed to determine the cause and the cure. She is on a special diet now to see if that helps, together with some other health products. She is extremely friendly and attractive, loves people, wants to be with people, and dislikes being left alone for long periods. A household with young children or other pets is not recommended at this stage. A fostering situation might be ideal until her needs are fully understood.
