Our Story

In 2012 the Rehabilitation Unit opened at London Regional Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital under the direction of Dr. Heather Kennedy. In 2015, Judith Emery RVT, CCRP became the Rehabilitation Therapist. The Unit provides rehabilitation services to companion animals (including cats and other species) in the London area. We accept referrals from family veterinarians, the Ontario Veterinary College and other hospitals. We also provide services to clients of other services of London Regional Veterinary and Referral Hospital, such as those who have undergone orthopedic surgery or patients of our Neurology Service.

We see a wide variety of patients including those who are recovering from surgery, such as cranial cruciate ligament repair or inter-vertebral disk disease, those suffering from soft tissue injuries such as iliopsoas strains, those who are suffering from long-term chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia, those requiring palliative care as well as sporting dogs requiring fitness and conditioning services.

The individual needs of each patient are assessed and a personalized treatment plan is developed for each. This can include (but are not limited to) thermotherapy, cryotherapy, massage, Low Level LASER, NMES/TENS,therapeutic exercises and underwater treadmill.
