My Dad passed away on July 17, 2024. Sadly, my dad fought a tough battle against dementia and lost in the ICU at Stratford Hospital.
My brother and I couldn’t get there in time to say goodbye. My mom, and Chaplain of the Toronto Paramedics and an ex-paramedic partner, both dear friends, were able to say goodbye, so he was not alone.
He was a loving husband of 57 years to my dear mom, a grandfather to our children, an awesome dad to my brother Chris Cooper and I, and father-in-law to my husband. He was also an uncle and a brother-in-law.
My father was a very proud paramedic with over 31 years of service. He loved helping people and making a difference.
He enjoyed baking and cooking, tinkering with cars and wood. He was always making something in his workshop and you did not dare touch his tools!
He loved his lemon meringue pie and strawberry ice cream and trying to beat us at scrabble, but even more, his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.
When my brother and I were growing up, Halloween was his specialty, he always did the coolest make-up for our Halloween costumes preparing months in advance, often having two different costumes - one for school and one for going out trick-or-treating.
My dad was booksmart and always learning something new. He once recorded us singing Dolly Parton‘s 9 to 5 in the basement of our old house on his homemade stereo system. He taught us how to fix things so you didn’t have to always rely on someone else.
He will be missed dearly …our hearts will be broken for quite a long time.
