“Lucas, was a Grand Champion of dog fighter, Michael Vick.
I sponsored Lucas, sending him blankets, bones...etc.
In return, those small gestures made me feel like I was making a difference in his life that had been filled with agonizing pain & fear.
Lucas bore deep scars both physically and emotionally. Never to be allowed in a real home with a loving family, because of what Vick trained him to become.
Lucas was a permanent resident at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for the remainder of his life per court order.
A lifetime sentence for a dog who was FORCED to be in a pit and fight to the death. Michael Vick received only 19 months for torturing and killing dogs at his own free will.
I know nothing of Michael Vick’s football career. I don’t care if he can throw or catch a ball while running 10 or 20 yards. That’s simply talent.
I’m more interested in something more important.
Like his character as a human being.
Or his thought process as he took his family’s pet dogs and threw them in a pit with fighting dogs in training and laughed as they were viciously torn apart.
What kind of father does that?
I’m more interested in his testimony in court as he stated he didn’t know dog fighting was illegal, but yet put a privacy fence up so his illegal activities couldn’t be seen & painted the sheds on his property black to prevent helicopters from seeing them.
Or as he stated that he took the legs of a little red dog and slammed the dog on the concrete ground repeatedly until the dog’s head, neck & back were crushed.
How he hooked jumper cables to under performing dog’s ears while being connected to car batteries and threw the dogs in the pool while they frantically tried to escape the inevitable.
Lucas died as a result of suffering from Babesia, a disease transmitted from one infected fighting dog to another via bites.
He didn’t ask for the life that was forced upon him. He didn’t deserve the scars he wore on his face & body.
Lucas was loyal. He showed unwavering courage and unconditional love.”

Happy Heavenly Birthday Hachiko!! 💫😳
Happy Birthday Hachikō! Hachikō was a Japanese Akita remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner, Hidesaburō Ueno, for whom he continued to wait for over nine years following Ueno's death.
Hachikō was born on November 10, 1923, at a farm near the city of Ōdate, Akita Prefecture. In 1924, Ueno, a professor at the Tokyo Imperial University, brought him to live in Shibuya, Tokyo, as his pet. Hachikō would meet Ueno at Shibuya Station every day after his commute home. This continued until May 21, 1925, when Ueno passed away while at work. From then until his death on March 8, 1935, Hachikō would return to Shibuya Station every day to await Ueno's return.
Hachikō is known in Japanese as chūken Hachikō, "faithful dog Hachikō".

On Monday November 1, 2021, amendments to the Animals for Research Act with respect to dogs typed as “pit bull” were enacted. These amendments are major milestones in the 16.5 year battle to abolish BSL in our province.
So what does this mean in relation to the Ontario Dog Owners Liability Act when it comes to bully breed owners? In layman terms, this is essentially it:
In the event your dog ends up at the pound, even if the pound has completed confirmation (e.g. confirmed with veterinarian records, done DNA testing and received the results, etc.) prior to the owner picking up their dog, if you state your dog is not a “pit bull”, the pound must release your dog. The only time the pound would not is if your dog has an aggressive past, such as a bite history or history of another aggressive manner.
If you DO have a dog that falls under the current iteration of DOLA, you make the simple statement to the pound: “my dog is NOT a pitbull as defined under the current act”. Then, you contest their opinion (and yes it’s just their opinion) that your dog is a “pit bull”.
You will have 4 months to contest this decision. When the dog is released, the owner must abide by a set of conditions, the most important being that the dog must be muzzled and leashed in public unless it is in a secure fenced yard and it must be muzzled and leashed while being transported in a vehicle unless it is in a secure crate. It can only be transported to a veterinarian, nowhere else. What you DO need to ensure your dog is in your full control and secure possession at all times. In the event 4 months passes and the pound advises they are challenging your statement, advise the pound you will be taking legal action against them. Until your case is brought before a judge, your dog remains in your home, in your full custody.
So what does this mean? Means no more bully’s held at length in cages while the shelter tries to prove their visual identification is correct; no more pound fees; no delays during a court process; and no more sleepless nights missing your dog.
Premier Ford deserves HUGE kudos for this amendment to the Animals for Research Act, which in turn includes DOLA. This is an amendment that bully breeds of Ontario needed, not an amendment that hangs “pit bull” type dogs out to dry.
Ford has given his word that he will stay true to his promise of repeal. Until then, let’s support his incredibly logical decision, keep up the pressure in all media outlets, keep attending rally’s in support of anti bsl, and show the world how responsible we are as owners of the best dogs in the world!
As things progress we will keep everyone updated. This fight is not over but is a great step in the right direction. This is not the end, however IS the beginning, and what we have been praying for for 16.5 years. Until full repeal
is achieved (because BSL is NOT yet gone), please continue to be the voice for the voiceless and TOGETHER, as an active anti-bsl community, let’s !
*Please note that this is not a platform to discuss political banter. This is an announcement as to the positive steps forward to protect our dogs and finally repeal the breed specific languge in DOLA. Do not go off point.*

Within hours of the Sept. 11 attacks twenty years ago today, thousands of rescue workers from across America deployed to Ground Zero to help in the search and rescue efforts. Joining the endeavour were dogs specially trained in search and rescue, police work, therapy and comfort. It is estimated that more than 300 dogs took part in the search, rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero.
