Now available for your consideration, Lucy is a 3 yr old, 14.1HH Andalusian X QH mare with a solid build. Started over the winter months and currently going walk, trot under saddle. She is more woah then go. While still green, she has been great in the ring and out on the roads/trails. perfectly content going out alone, she is super curious. She has the sweetest personality, loves to cuddle. She has been a quick learner, good ground manners, great for the vet and farrier. UTD on everything.

****SOLD****

Mav, 6yr old 16.1hh OTTB gelding. Very sweet, in your pocket, puppy dog personality, he is loved by all in the barn. He has been lightly restarted and shows promise to be a great partner for an experienced, ambitious rider. Solid walk, trot, still working on left lead canter departures. Offering up lead changes. Enjoys being out on the trails. He’s great for the vet and farrier.

Due to life changes, I no longer have the time to continue with his training. While green, Mav does have a good foundation and will excel in the discipline of your choosing.

Message Malahat Acres Farm directly for more details.

Flexible on price to a good home.

A good reminder to all, especially during this rainy season.. the space we leave in front of us is not for you, it’s the room we need to safely stop. Have patience, we are all just trying to get home safely and in one piece.

COOLING HOT HORSES - THE STATE OF THE ART

*** PLEASE SHARE ***

Since Atlanta 1996 we have known that using continuous application of cold water without scraping is the most effective way to cool down horses that are moderately to severely hyperthermic (re**al temperature in excess of ~40°C/104°F), especially in hot or hot/humid conditions.

The sources for this evidence are:

Cooling hot horses with cold water DOES NOT
1) cause muscle damage
2) cause laminitis
3) induce shock
4) give horses heart attacks
5) prevent them from cooling by constriction of skin blood flow

Water left on horses DOES NOT
1) insulate and prevent heat loss
2) cause them to overheat

It is NOT MORE EFFECTIVE TO
1) start at the feet and work up
2) scrape water off whilst cooling (it causes them to warm up)
3) focus on large blood vessels
4) cover the horse with wet towels
