It is hot out there! Tips to keep your pets comfortable during this heatwave. 🔥
Make sure they have access to plenty of clean, fresh water.
Never leave alone in a parked vehicle.
Check pavement before going on walks, and try to schedule walks in the late evening or early morning to prevent sensitive paw pads from burning.
Limit playtime outside and have a nice cool/shady spot that they can relax in or keep inside.

It is porcupine quill season! 🦔
If your dog ends up with porcupine quills, it is best to bring them into the clinic to be removed as soon as possible as they become more fragile and harder to remove the longer they are in the body, and also can cause infection.
Porcupine quills have small barbs on the shaft that cause them to move deeper into the tissues. We do not recommend removing quills at home as it is very painful for the pet without sedation.
Struggling with your pet to remove them can cause them to move deeper into the tissue or to break off and travel to other parts of the body.
During spring and summer, we see lots of pets with porcupine quills. If your pet ends up in this situation, please call the clinic as soon as you can at 519-986-2800!

What actually is a 4DX test, and why is my vet recommending my dog have his blood taken for this?
A 4Dx test is a screening test used in clinic to identify 3 common tick borne diseases. In addition to these tick borne diseases it also screens for heartworm. Tick numbers have increased in our area and we are seeing more cases of Lyme disease too.
Ask us how you can reduce your pet's risk of tick borne disease and heartworm - we have lots of options!
