Shayle did her first walk around them.
I let her know just hanging around them like that is good for everyone.
Cool thing about it is both these calves are grandkids of 4H heifer's from year's past.

I thought this was a great picture to have of these side by side. 1 is a pullet and 1 a rooster. These are Cream/Crele Legbar babies fresh outta the incubator so approx 24 hours old.

The pullets are marked beautifully with dark "chipmunk striping" down there backs with a solid dark line from the top of their head to their tail. They have natural eyeliner that makes a girl envious.

The rooster is much lighter. Ohh I have worked to get this color to pop through! I still have the odd over melanized rooster chick which makes it hard to tell if he is a he or a her. Their backs have less defined striping and they have a large white spot on their head. Their eyeliner is much less impressive if they have any at all. This dude does.

Yellow clean legs are also a standard and mohawks should show up soon. I have a few pullets that are already posting a hair do. Sometimes it takes a couple weeks to show up though. And as always... big sky blue eggs!

Unfortunately I am pulling my Cream/Crele Legbar's from sale today. I lost another hen the other day and I myself need to build my flock back up in order to keep providing you all with quality chicks. I've worked really hard to get this line better throughout the last 4 years and I really do not want to bring in another line to restart with though these last 2 months I am almost back to my original stock unfortunately. Please check back in later the summer as I may have built up my birds enough come August to start selling again. I will still have Blue Legbar's for sale so if you are wanting them I can still fill a few of those orders.

Last summer I had an idea... I had no idea how I was going to accomplish said idea. I was working with a $0 budget and was short on time. Last fall we got it together enough that we were able to house the chickens in it. Today Shayle and I got our first breeder partition in. Currently housing Naked Necks and Opals.

I will be keeping my prices the same for 2023!
I am acquiring a couple Splash Orpington Roosters. So no black, just blue and Splash. I have 1 chocolate Orp hen as well so some Mauve and chocolate may happen to show up😊

Going into the lineup this year Blue Legbars will be available. These guys are still Projects. As long as you know that and realize they may not lay a consistent BLUE. It will range from green to blue. I *am getting better* at consistentlyhaving them be autos*xing as well. This has taken about 2 generations to really get consistent and a lot of trying to stay in the strict SOP guidelines to improve them to a proper Legbar - as is any new color variety. Generation 3 is in the incubator now! Blue Legbar will be priced the same as Cream/Crele.

My daughter will have a few Silkie and Showgirl babies as well this year. Pricing on them TBD.

The Floof army will be ready to deploy in 1 week.
Working guardian parents, pups are currently out with the sheep during the day. Horses and cows right next door, the rooster's have been hanging out with them too! 1st vx and deworm included.

What do we have left?
2 boys -white. 1 extra floofy, 1 less floof.
1 girl Brown. Less Floof. None of the girls are actually really floofy. Shorter coat like their mom.

I mean I may have another male and female but currently the husband and kid are trying to keep them. Not both, they are arguing over which one😫

Well.... I was gonna way under charge this.😂

My hope is for Opal Legbar babies in spring. And I promise my birds don't look like they went through a chicken plucker 2 days prior... poor dear.

The Opal Legbar's are gonna spend their winter with the Call Ducks, Chuck and Suzy and the Silkies. Come spring the Silkies will move to their own breeding pen. Stay tuned! Pictures of the new coop coming soon.... after this wind dies down enough I can actually get the last 2 pieces of tin on...

This will be your LAST chance for birds in 2022 as I am doing 1 last set here tomorrow am of Opal,Blue Project, Crele/Cream Legbar and EE and the incubator WILL get shut down once they have hatched ( or this is what I have told my husband😬😂)

POL pullets, some older chicks and younger chicks. Crele/Cream Legbar, select few Blue Legbar Project and Easter Eggers. Be there early!👀 As my birds will be at the front end of the sale to ensure I can help you out over at the 4H food booth as well😊

Hang tight as Spring 2023 we should have our new breeding coop up and more breeds! BBS Orpington again and Silkies will be added back to our program hopefully!

She has 9 Legbar chicks under her. 2 were just coming out of their shells when I peaked in. Move the little ones to ground level tomorrow and she can spend some time in the box stall with them.

Legbar's are finally coming outta the incubator. My girls I guess just needed to decide that they liked one of the roos in there🤷‍♀️

I have 4 pairs and 1 White Legbar project. ( these guys I cannot s*x yet... sorry! Project aka Work in Progress😬) More coming out here in a couple days then we will have a 3 week wait til the next. If you are interested let me know as I will be making a waiting list for these ones.

What makes a Legbar chicken so awesome?

Autos*xing. I do have some black based Genes still in my birds and that makes autos*xing them VERY hard as they do usually have a more defined markings. As of now I am going by their head dot. I hope to eliminate these black genes over the next couple years. The brown based ones are super easy to tell.

BIG blue eggs. The mature gals make my white Leghorn eggs look small. If you want gals that are gonna lay you some big beautiful eggs, these are them.

Savvy. I love that my Legbars are smart, a bit flighty meaning they don't get into trouble with predators ( Think North Country Cheviot - our motto for the Cheviots are We are really FAST!🤣 ) they are great foragers, they lay eggs well into their 4 years old( these are my oldest hens currently) and the best of all...Mohawks! I am working on double cresting my birds... what does this mean?
I means should you breed to a non Crested bird ( Orpington, Leghorn, Brahma etc) you should still get a Mohawk. Like I said it's a work in progress. All my F1 Blue Legbar Projects and White Legbar project grow outs so far this year are Crested.

The downfalls...
These guys do have bigger single combs. The roosters are at risk for frostbite in winter. My hens were good however.

Slower to Mature. These pullets do take a bit longer to mature. 20 to 26 weeks is my average start to laying time. These ones pictured if kept under light would probably start laying Dec/Jan. If not expect blue nuggets come Spring. Eventually I would love to work on this... however getting these birds closer to Standard of Perfection is my first goal with these birds. Yes, I am breeding these birds to become show quality. Very few breeders in Canada have this in mind. 😊

Well... it is with great shock I write this...

We are currently having a bit of an outbreak here at CKB.
I'm very sorry to say that our hens have come down with Highly contagious Broody hen syndrome.

7 hens have already fallen victim. Knowing the signs of Broody hen syndrome can sometimes help in its early stages
Puffiness, unwillingness to leave the nesting box, growling, screaming at you while trying to look for eggs, pecking and biting, being able to lift up a broody hen and place her back down with minimal attempts to run away is also a sign but not one to attempt at first. Doing so may lead to being bit or pecked.

How to treat BHS. Just let them be! Seriously. 21 days and they will have their little family and be happy momma's. I will be stealing most of said babies and any eggs that do not hatch still alive to throw in the incubator. I've given up.on trying to mark eggs and keep hens seperate. They now occupy ALL the nesting boxes along with 1 of them doubling. Of course the nastiest one is the one this last hen decided to co- parent with 😑

Stay tuned for a massive influx of chicks...🤣

24 butt nuggets fresh out of the incubator! All BBS ( well 1 splash, rest are Blue and black) Easter Egger, Orpington and Legbar's
9/10 of the Opal split blue/ Blue Legbar project chicks have been identified.

Meaning 1 of these chicks is either a Blue project Legbar pullet or an Opal Split blue Legbar Pullet. Breed them back split for 50% Opal or back Opal for 75% Opal Legbar
Want in on the package of 24?
Message me. I'm willing to make you a deal🤣 cause I have 2 more batches hatching in the next week and due to my bird sales getting cancelled they need to move!

All chicks are indoors until I decide on keepers and move them out to the barn. This means none of these chicks I am selling are in contact with the parent stock or have been outdoors.

Last chance.... I have 1 White Legbar Pullet - she is not crested but will lay green or Blue eggs.
I have a few F1 Blue Legbar project chicks . These ones aren't Crested and therefore won't make the cut into my breeding pen. Should all lay blue/green eggs. All of them can be off heat as of now. They are in the garage brooder on heat just cause Winter has decided it should stay here😖

Due to Redvers and Esterhazy bird sales being cancelled... here is a brief list of what I had planned on bringing!

Shoot me a message or drop a comment for any more info.

Just a note. All my birds are easy to work with. My roosters are chill. We don't deal with aggression here. They are used to kids, horses, cattle, sheep, cats and guardian dogs. Everyone is also supplemented with the Loop Program.

1 Easter Egger Trio!
2 hens ( 1 lays green for sure. Not 100% sure whether the other lays brown or olive like color) and 1 Crele Legbar Rooster.
Early last fall hatch.

2. Legbar's! There will he some pairs/ trios depending what comes out of the incubator these next 2.5 weeks. Crele/Cream Legbar. Due to lack of space right now both Crele and cream are together. My Legbars ( and Legbar Projects) are being bred to SOP. Definitely a work in progress in Canada with the limited stock to work with. All my birds are clean legged, crested ( we are working on double cresting right now for nice full crests), lay big sky BLUE eggs( no green in my Crele or creams) and are autos*xing at hatch.

3. First offering in Canada and probably your last chance to get these project birds as chicks as I will be working on getting my breeding stock for my next generation picked out. 2 or 3 sets of F1 Blue Legbar project chicks. Out of Legbar hens and a Blue Rooster.

4. White Legbar Project chicks. For the person that wants those big blue eggs, but wants a bird that starts laying a bit earlier and a bit more prolifically then the cream/crele/blue's. There are F1 and F2 projects so far.

5. Silkie x chicks ( either Legbar or Orpington) these are my 8 yr old daughter's birds. She unfortunately lost her Silkie rooster over winter and of course her pullets just started laying after he was gone. She has 3 hens, a white painted, buff and black. She is selling these chicks out of her hens to hopefully buy herself a new rooster!

6. Easter Egger chicks. All current roosters are either green or Blue egg lines.

7. Blue/Black/Splash Orpington chicks Blue Rooster over Blue and 1 black hen.

Bred ewes.
Ethel - 5 yr old Suffolk x Klun ewe. Has always had and raised top sets of twins for us. Bred too late for us - all ewes bred either Suffolk or North Country Cheviot Ram
FF - 3 yr old. lambed June Last year. Had a ripper of a Ewe Lamb. Imagine she will lamb June again.
Laurie - 2 yr old. She raised a single last year as a yearling. Lambed late may
Alice- 2 yr old. Also raised a single last year as a yearling. Lambed May
Ewes are all on a strict Vaccine/deworming protocol along with free choice mineral and salt. ( Also the best hay money can buy but they dont seem to think it's good enough.) Also get fruit and veggies from the Loop program and they will run you over to get it.

I got more chicks coming out of the incubator today and have some 1 to 2 week olds also.

Easter Eggers. Possibly purebred Orpingtons in there or White Legbar projects ( can't tell for sure as I dont have breeding pens sorted due to the ridiculous amount of snow in the yard) I am headed home to Neudorf tomorrow Mar 18 for family stuff. I can bring them along😊

Chicks are out and available! We have approx 15 chicks available. All Easter Eggers😊

I mean you can't pick them up today cause you can't get in my yard unless you plan on snowshoeing a mile in... but I will keep them no charge til this weather smartens up enough we can actually drive with a vehicle🤣

Most of these are by the Amercauna/Brahma Roo. All look like they are blue or some form of Blue. Fluffy feet and Fluffy beards! The white ones I need to do some figuring... I think they are White Legbar... they were supposed to be Cream split to Opal🤷‍♀️
