We had a FIRST in the RUFF AF Dome last night.....
The first bad you throw to get stuck in the rafters! 🤣🤣
There were lots of laughs in agility class tonight, but I think this one takes the cake. 🤣
RUFF Athletics Facility offers multiple dog sport classes, basic obedience classes, & puppy training.

Jelly Fish got to come to Austin's baseball game Monday night.
She was the bestest girlie, tugging, listening, watching, and for the most part quiet (lol). There was a little yelling at the people on the bleachers, who she insisted should share their chips with her. 🤣
She also started learning the all important skill of place stays! She sat in the chair without direction from me (other than rewards) while kids ran by, balls threw all around, music playing, people cheering, etc!
She definitely has a Jack Russell stomach! Anything for food!! 🤣
Check out THIS response to name!! 😲😲

For anyone interested, I will be volunteering this weekend at the Battle (agility competition) hosted by FlatOut Dogs in Port Elgin. It's on Friday through Sunday. Leave FIDO at home, but you can come out to watch!
Watched this video of Credit doing agility from a couple years ago and forgot how FLUID she was over jumps 🥰
UKI Atlantic Cup held at FlatOut Dogs, Biathlon Agility 16" Select
I'd like to officially introduce the newest member of the RUFF AF Family:
Instructor Chloe's baby Belgian Tervuren "Digit". 🥰
Already a tugging feen!!
It's a lazy, rainy morning, this morning. 😴
DOGS NEED DOWN TIME!
I could retire if I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say "I have to run/walk my dog an hour before class to try and tire them out" (as the dog is still bouncing at the end of the leash)! 😆
Have you considered that you might be doing TOO MUCH with your dog? Especially for pups under a year!!! Young dogs that are over-tired and over stimulated WILL start to have bad behaviour. They simply lack the mental majority to be able to regulate themselves.
Just like a toddler whose attitude goes down hill FAST if their nap is delayed, your dogs do the same thing. Dogs need down time too.
Happy snuggles everyone! 🥰
It's super important when a dog is OBSESSED with something that you practice some emotional control/impulse control.
Shark breaks position once but still shows great verbal control to not just run over and jump in, until she's released! 💪
This is how everyone fills their pool, right? 🤣
Pool is set for agility classes tonight!
It's not too late to register for our BLTN and DSS programs starting Tuesday July 23rd!
BLTN is basic obedience skills - stays, heel, greeting, loose leash walking, and recalls!
DSS is working around distractions focusing on soft skills needed for dog sports - tugging/out, retrieves, quick responses to cues, impulse control
Both courses are entry level and complement each other. If you have done one of them, you can still do the other! Head to my website to register.
2 years ago, Shark entered her first agility trial. She was only 2 and was a COVID puppy (IYKYK), so I didn't have high expectations. Well... She was FAR from meeting even my lowest of expectations. 🤣 Not ever having the opportunity to experience a trial and train through the stimulating environment, Shark showed me that we had an over arousal issue. Her first run, she could hardly function. I took her off leash and it was difficult for her to even respond to her name. I wised up for the second run. I kept her on leash and just worked engaged/control from the in gate to the out gate. And I have had to do that a few times during her training.
Fast forward two years to this past weekend, she had two nearly perfect runs! She held her start line, and listened so well. We have to work on her not day dreaming mid way through a run 🤣 but overall, she did SO well!! I'm very pleased with her progress as it seemed like a huge uphill battle at first. Watching her runs makes my heart sing as she reminds me of running Peach Juice. 🥰
Austin ran in his first competition with Biggie! 🥰 They dabble in the dome but not too often. They have a true connection, those two. I'm so pleased with how Austin handled his nerves, how he handled the courses, and how Biggie handled being run by Austin with me outside the ring.
Denise (AKA Mom AKA Nanny D) debuted her young border collie, High Tide at just 21 months of age. He is showing lots of promise! 🥰
Kensie came to help out and videod our runs for us! Thanks Kensie!!! The only downfall is that now she wants her own dog to run. 🤣
👏 Shark Bait is FINALLY pulling things together! She was SO close to her first qualifying run!👏 Austin competed for the very first time!! I'm so proud of h...
I stole this pic from Denise Bond 😁
HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!
7 years ago, Apple Snapple won the Ontario Regionals in the 16" Regular division, which is a very competitive division.
It's been 7 months since we said goodbye. :(
For everyone who comes to me with worried/fearful dogs, this is the dog who taught me how to best deal with that. I'm forever grateful for her lessons which enable me to help so many others!
I saw a friend at a competition last summer who said that an old student of mine said to say hi and that I saved her dog! She was reactive because the world was scary. I helped her to discover the world wasn't as scary as she thought, and coping mechanisms to deal with the scarier things. She's now doing agility! 🥰 It's stories like this that keeps me going every day. ❤️
If you like to plan ahead, you'll be happy to know that we have classes posted until mid September!
Registration now open

What are you doing tonight?
Whatever it is, I'm sure you'll have music playing. Be sure to tune into New Country 96.9 between 8pm and midnight tonight. 🤗
📢Classes cancelled tonight due to the heat 📢
See everyone next week
Shark got to play at an agility trial yesterday. So, today, after a long day of private lessons, Beach got to do some drills! Her first sequencing (more than two jumps) at 16".
🥰
Beach's first time doing a full sequence at 16". 15 months old
OMG! OMG! She did it!!! She actually did it!!! Shark's first full set of weaves poles! 12 poles, no guides!
We have been working on our weave poles! They haven't come easily for Shark (as she says it's much faster to just run past them lol). I was lucky enough that...
Today we celebrate Credit's 13th Birthday! 🎉🎂
Anyone who took classes or had a private lesson in 2022/2023 would know Credit in her role as demo dog or distraction dog. 🥰
Just gonna put this here for your reading pleasure.

*STUDENT SUCCESS SHARE* Evelyn and Keji have been coming for agility classes for about a year now. Evelyn is in highschool and Keji is her family's first agility dog. On Friday May 10th, they entered their first trial. Here is the video of their very first run AND A QUALIFYING RUN!! With a 1st place finish as the cherry on top! They make a great team together! Keji got distracted at times, but Evelyn did a fantastic job keeping her on task! CONGRATULATIONS EVELYN & KEJI! 🎉🏆
A few RUFF AF FLYBALL TEAM members traveled to Fredericton today to train in green dogs at OMG's tournament. How do you think we did?!? (Pretty great if you ask me! ;) )
Here is the Novice course we did in our last Rally 1 class. I used food to help with confidence and precision. This is probably the most she's ever done consecutively, EVER!! I'm very happy with her skills! (Did you see that side step? Nice lateral motion!!)
🤯AMAZING DISCOVERY How exciting is this?!?! HURRAW fits inside the Treat & Train!!! 🎉With the big disc, of course. But in general, a treat comes out so much faster than other treats, which prevents our poochies from getting frustrated. 😄 📣OTHER EXCITING NEWS Hurraw has a frequent buyers program!! Buy 12 of any one size and get a 13th free! Who doesn't want a free box of training treats our dogs LOVE?!?!? WIN-WIN!! 🏆
The newest member of the RUFF AF Flyball Team had her first restraints today. Meet 10wk old Boxer, RIOT! Sweet and drivey! A perfect balance ;)
This video came up on my personal feed today! 🥰🥰 I'm always preaching about how good this game is! You can see why! Prior to this video, I had her for a week but called her Puppers. When I decided to keep her, she got her name. ❤️ ------- What a smart cookie! Only started teaching her that name at dinner last night (after we settled on a name). 2 sessions of name-feed and getting responses already!!
Today Shark Bait and I attended a fun match to support a local team who made an agility world team! 🥰 It was held at PJ's Canine Club where Shark has only been for ratting. She was definitely shocked to see that we were doing agility and NOT ratting. 🤣 We had lots of distractions to work though!! IS she capable of doing the courses designed for today? Probably. COULD she have done them today? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! You always need to train the dog in front of you AT THAT VERY MOMENT!! Sure, I was disappointed that we didn't do more than 6-7 obstacles in a row. But what we did was MUCH BIGGER THAN SEQUENCING! What's the point of sequencing, if it's not to the standard you want it to be?? Focus, drive, work ethic, and control all must come first. As hard as it was for both Shark and I today, I'm very happy with how she was able to overcome her "terrier brain" and progress to doing some great smaller sequences! #qualityoverquantity
STUDENT SUCCESS SHARE Meeting Megan and Hermione! This was only their SIXTH agility private lesson! The speed of their progress is unreal! This is the FIRST time they have sequenced with REAL jumps and not just cone wraps. FOUNDATIONS SKILLS PAY OFF!! #trusttheprocess
Austin brought Biggie to the Agility Drop In on Saturday. They started off a bit rusty, but here is there final run! I love the partnership these two have!
Post 2/2 Here is a little blurb of Beach's heeling practice from last Wednesday night. I was just farting around but her heeling was awesome so I quickly pulled the tripod out. 😆 She's focused despite the other dogs roaming around (which stated before, I wouldn't normally do). I'm working a bit of a slower pace to cause her to try harder to adjust her speed to me. She's so fun to work!!! And I love that her rear end swings on the left turns! 😍
Shark Bait at flyball practice last week! Her box looks so fast! BONUS: She caught normal small tennis balls!! 🤯🤯
Still room in my Impulse Control Workshop starting THIS Saturday November 18th!! It's a two-week workshop covering drills to help your dog control themselves around tempations. Here is Biggie Smalls showing that he can listen and drop into a down even when he would much rather be chasing the ball! What a Good Biggie Boy! :D Register here https://www.ruffaf.com/register/workshops/
We have been up to a few things over the last couple weeks that I'm very behind posting for. This was our most recent adventure. However, it's the most memorable! It was the first time I felt confident in Shark's obstacle commitment and didn't have to 'baby sit' her. She is working so much better in new and highly distracting environments. (We've been working hard) This was the end of the day and our second time running through the whole course. I only made it 3/4 through. I WAS GASSED! 😮💨 I definitely need to work on my fitness!! 🤣 Thanks FlatOut Dogs for a great seminar!
There are some things you can OVER teach your dogs. We need to consider the long term outcome of what we're teaching. I taught Shark Bait to be "Vicious", but she was SO vicious that I was worried that she would make people feel uncomfortable. So, I made sure that as easily as she could become "vicious", she could settle too! Sharky does a great job here! 🥰🥰
