"Eliminating waste allows food to follow its natural cycle: growing from the earth, providing nourishment, and then returning to the earth to feed new growth — an impossible feat when food is yanked from the cycle and buried in landfills instead."
Well-written inciteful article.

How this ambitious non-profit juggles food rescue, research, education, and advocacy to reduce food waste, combat climate change and feed hungry Canadians.

Here's an email from a happy customer, just had to share.
Hey Joyce
First, I love your composter. When I got the first one, I was suspect of the durability to take 2 feet of Ottawa snow, but, that has been a non-issue. I originally purchased to rid my current composter of a growing population of rats. Neighbours were blaming my composter, but, in reality, it is the 365 days of multiple bird feeders that I believe are drawing them in. No rats in the Speedibin, so, I am forever greatful to you for that!
What I really like about it is the amount of moisture that the Speedibin retains. I was forever having to water down my plastic composter in order to keep it working. Speedibin builds up and retains much of the moisture generated and I believe this has cut my composting time in about half. I needed the second one to allow the first one to complete the composting process. I put all my organics in my composters saving alot of landfill space. I compost all year and need to generate alot of compost. My whole backyard is now garden with 12 fruit trees, raspberries, kiwis and veggies. Speedibins are also a 100% improvement in the look of my composting system.
Many thanks for the awesome product and amazing service you provide.
Enjoy!
Doug

I'm a big fan of Michael Pollen's work. Just finished reading "Food Rules: an eater's manual" and was thrilled to see that rule #80 is "Compost"! Here's what he wrote:
This rule might not seem to have anything to do with eating, but it does. It's much easier to leave something on your plate when you know it's not going to waste, but rather will go to feed your garden and so eventually, you, at a subsequent meal. Also, having a compost pile helps us to overcome any reluctance to buy fresh produce for fear it will go bad before we can make use of it. Market research suggests that this fear predisposes people toward buying ageless processed food instead of perishable fresh. A compost file can relieve the guilt induced by the sad head of broccoli wilting in the fridge." YES!
And rule #81: "Plant a Vegetable Garden if You Have the Space, a Window Box if You Don't". Love it!
