Check out those ⚡️lightning⚡️ fast reflexes!
Here Jeff carefully approaches the seal pup so it isn’t scared in to the water, and then quickly “scruffs” the sea pup (much like a mother cat or dog would) so that it can be brought up from the dock. As explained in our previous post, this little one was likely abandoned and had an injury, so on the advice of the BC SPCA Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre (Wild ARC) well as the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre it was deemed to need rescuing and medical care.
Thanks so much to the staff and service members at Naden for their assistance in this rescue, especially to Aaron for providing the photos and video!

Phew! Summer has really been keeping us busy, hence the lack of posts recently!
We are often called to perform rescues of seal pups at this time of year, and this little one was recently rescued by Jeff. We always work closely with wildlife rehabilitators, and this seal pup was monitored for 24 hours before being picked up - while sea mothers often leave their pups on a beach or haul-out for long periods (since the pups cannot swim well and keep up with them) the mother of this one never returned, and it was observed to have a wound on its umbilicus that needed treatment.
Stay tuned for our next post, where we have video of Jeff actually retrieving this poor wee one!
Thank you to Aaron for the pictures and for alerting us to this situation!

Here’s the release video from the eagle caught in the chicken coop. She’s out there happy, healthy, and soaring the skies now! 🦅😍

Part rescue, part human-wildlife conflict, this eagle found themselves stuck when they thought they’d try for an easy chicken dinner!
Jeff works closely with property owners and our local wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre the BCSPCA WildARC, to ensure all parties are happy and cared for. We are BCSPCA AnimalKind certified: AnimalKind is the BC SPCA’s animal welfare accreditation and referral program for animal-related businesses. Thanks for following, and please bear with us while we create some content for you. Keep an eye on this space 👀 but in the meantime here is a nestling Great Horned Owl whose nest was blown down in the wind. Here you can see them resting comfortably after we created a new nest and placed them back in their tree, where the parents continued to feed them!🦉 Don’t you love a good rescue story?!

Alternative Wildlife Solutions is training a new wildlife rescue assistant - please welcome Dylan Kinney! Dylan had his first chance at a rescue recently when two female bald eagles locked talons in the sky over a territorial dispute. This happens every year at this time, and while they usually they work things out on their own, in this case they must have had a serious hate on for each other! They continued the battle for five hours after they hit the ground, and were completely exhausted when we arrived. It took the sight of us and our nets for these two ladies to finally give up their fight, and both eagles are now at the local wildlife rescue center recovering. Thanks Dylan, and congrats on a successful first rescue (and a challenging one as well)!
We are looking forward to these ladies being released in the next few weeks!
Special thanks to Michelle for calling this in, and for the photos and videos (which we are working on uploading).
As always, please don't hesitate to call us for any issues regarding human-wildlife conflict on your property, as well as for any tricky situations such as these. We are BCSPCA Animal Kind certified, and bring 20+ years of experience to our work.
Please PHONE as we are often out in the field and do not have time to monitor our inbox (250)686-1181 - cheers!

Do you know what to do if you find a raccoon denning in your home or yard? Inhumane options like trapping and relocating often result in the animals injuring themselves, sometimes fatally, trying to escape the trap (and relocation could separate mothers from their babies).

If you need help with raccoons in your home, make sure to call an AnimalKind company to safely remove the raccoon and any babies. is the BC SPCA’s animal welfare accreditation program for pest control companies.
