We use Pyrex glass bowls for our own pets. They might not be fancy but they are cheap, durable, and easy to keep clean.

In our new book, The Forever Dog LIFE, we lay out the pro’s and con’s of different types of bowls. Here’s a glimpse of what you need to know:

Plastic🥣: Chemicals in plastic absorb through the skin and inhibit the synthesis of melanin, which can cause Plastic Dish Nasal Dermatitis that leaves your pet’s nose & lips, pink and irritated.

Ceramic:🫖 Hartpury scientists found the most harmful bacterial species (salmonella, E.coli and MRSA) were most frequently found in ceramic bowls because of people continuing to use them after fine cracks in the glaze become visible.

Stainless steel🥄: cheaper quality bowls have been involved in recalls due to heavy metal contamination. Be sure to buy high-quality bowls (18/8 or 304 steel) from a trusted source.

Glass🥛: Durable, kitchen-friendly glass bowls made from 100% borosilicate glass (Pyrex) make great food and water bowls on the floor.

🧼No matter which type of bowl you use, the best thing you can do to protect you and your dog’s health is to wash your bowl after every meal with hot water and soap. In addition, at least once a week, run your bowls through the hot cycle in your dishwasher. You can also coat the bowl with hydrogen peroxide, wait five minutes, then wipe with a clean sponge and rinse.

Happy International Cat Day! Ready to make your cat’s meals purrfectly delicious?

Whether you’re switching from kibble or wet food, here’s a simple guide to get your cat hooked on Totally Raw Cat Food:

Transitioning from kibble:
🐱 Start by mixing a bit of Totally Raw Cat Food with their kibble.
🐈 As your kitty shows more interest in raw, gradually reduce the kibble and up the raw food.
🐱 Move to two set meal times daily instead of free-feeding kibble.
🐈 Keep increasing the raw food and cutting back on kibble until your cat fully transitions.

Transitioning from wet Food:
🐱 Add a small portion of Totally Raw Cat Food to their wet food.
🐈 You can mix it in or serve it on the side, depending on your cat’s preference.
🐱 Slowly up the raw portion until your cat is eating entirely raw.
🐈 Some cats love their food slightly warm. If that's your cat, submerge Totally Raw Cat Food in warm water for a few minutes before serving.

Bonus tips:

Cats learn their food concepts as kittens, so some adult cats take to raw food quickly, while others need more encouragement. Once transitioned, even the fussiest cats can love raw food.

Remember, for multiple cat households or to add additional protein varieties, you can feed Totally Raw Dinner Patties with a pinch of Taurine.

If your cat needs enticing, follow these steps:
1. Start slow. Some owners put a tiny amount of raw next to the current food so that the cat can smell the raw food while eating kibble or wet food. This helps them recognize the scent as food.
2. Then, mix a tiny portion with their food before gradually increasing the amount. Don't get too eager; keep it small at first if you know your cat is fussy.
3. To entice them, mix their favourite treats or meal toppers over the raw food. Eventually, eliminate non-raw treats from mealtime.
4. Even once transitioned, feel free to continue to use Totally Raw dehydrated treats as meal toppers to enrich mealtime.
