Today we learned that minivans and snow do not belong together. I have always had the privilege of awd vehicles in the past and I feel I am well versed in driving in this kind of weather but today was an eye opener on what a minivan can handle, and it’s safe to say… not much. They are terrible even with brand new tires.

So unfortunately going forward, clients will need to drop off their dogs at daycare during any increment weather, as safety of transporting your dogs and myself is most important.

There is snow forecasted again tonight. Daycare will be open tomorrow but owners will need to drop their dog off at the farm. Please plan your morning accordingly. Thank you for your understanding!

And if you are reading this Ramona…a big thanks to your hubby for saving the day. 🙏 🚜

❄️Inclement Weather Reminder❄️

Just a reminder that in the event of any significant snowfall, decisions on the opening or closure of Camp K9 are dependent on the driving conditions of our roads. While daycare will be kept open as much as reasonably possible, safety of myself, your dog during morning pick-ups and you driving here at the end of the day is the primary consideration with any closures. Other concerns include fallen trees, power failures, icy road conditions and snow removal of the roads.

Because of our rural location, we are one of the last neighborhoods to get plowed. Please be prepared for potential closures during our winter season. We are happy to share that the Camp K9 mobile has new winter tires but safety of everyone is far more important than our vehicle making it to your house.

With snow season just around the corner, this is your reminder to please have a backup plan.

Movement Puzzles are pattern movement exercises where a dog moves between 2 bowls, around cones and completes different exercises between them. Eventually you add distance and then some fun obstacles, such as cavaletti, platforms and balance discs.

It’s a great way to build focus, confidence, coordination and body awareness. Go Rem Rem!

✨As 2024 comes to a close, I would like to take a moment to thank our clients for their continued support and trust over the year. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful group of daycare dogs and dog parents in our small Camp K9 family.

As we look forward to 2025, we will continue our littlest mission to set a new standard of dog daycare. One that supports your dog's physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. A place for dogs to build on their confidence, learn new skills and foster healthy relationships. Dog daycare can be sooo much more than what the current norm is out there and we have every intention of doing so!

Looking forward to new adventures here on the farm in 2025 with the crew and some new camp friends to join us in early Spring. (yes, we will be dusting off the wait list 👀).

When I first put these two together in a group, it was blatantly obvious by body language they were old friends. They were very happy to see each other. Turns out they were hike buddies at K9 Trekkers.

🧠 Today’s Enrichment Activity "Left-side Heel"

🧠 Today’s Enrichment Activity "Left-side Heel" This was our first “Heel” session with our new gal, Frankie. She did awesome! She’s a Smarty Pants McGee. But she’s a border collie…..so of course she is! 😉 This video is step one: teaching the heel position while being stationary first. Then step two would be teaching it while moving. I am only using 2 commands for this- "Heel" & "Break". I use "Heel" then I reward the dog for being in the proper "Heel" position and "Break” when I toss the treat away to reset the dog. Repeat. Repeat. That's it, super simple. Try it at home Camp K9 paw-rents!

Teaching my two to pause at doorways and other thresholds is an invaluable skill for a variety of situations. This is a good habit for dogs to learn that could potentially save their life. This is one of the many enrichment activities we do here at structured daycare.

With small increments and repetition these guys were able to tackle a fun backyard tunnel with confidence this week. (except for my awkward Sancho Pants aka Derpy Doo) Reminder no daycare this Monday because of the stat holiday. Hope you all have a nice Family Day with your special someone’s. See you all Tuesday!
