Chappy learning “Nose Target-Touch Command”.
Target training is a simple behaviour to teach your dog and is ridiculously useful in so many ways. Enhancing recall, loose leash walking, focusing on you around distractions/triggers, movement control without touching or redirecting unwanted behaviours. It’s also a foundation skill for more complex tricks and advanced training.
We do this at our vet appointments as it gives my dogs a job to do, they are more focused on me and therefore less stressed.

🧠 Today’s Enrichment Activity "Left-side Heel"
This was our first “Heel” session with our new gal, Frankie. She did awesome! She’s a Smarty Pants McGee. But she’s a border collie…..so of course she is! 😉
This video is step one: teaching the heel position while being stationary first. Then step two would be teaching it while moving.
I am only using 2 commands for this- "Heel" & "Break".
I use "Heel" then I reward the dog for being in the proper "Heel" position and "Break” when I toss the treat away to reset the dog. Repeat. Repeat.
That's it, super simple. Try it at home Camp K9 paw-rents!
Teaching my two to pause at doorways and other thresholds is an invaluable skill for a variety of situations. This is a good habit for dogs to learn that could potentially save their life. This is one of the many enrichment activities we do here at structured daycare.
Today is our Friday! Woot! Have a great weekend!
Today is our Friday! Woot! 🎉
Don’t worry Joey, we have plenty of yummy treats here at Camp K9.
With small increments and repetition these guys were able to tackle a fun backyard tunnel with confidence this week. (except for my awkward Sancho Pants aka Derpy Doo)
Reminder no daycare this Monday because of the stat holiday. Hope you all have a nice Family Day with your special someone’s. See you all Tuesday!
