August Show Day Notices

1. Registration is now open and will close for pre-entries on Saturday August 3rd at midnight. All entries posted after that time will be subject to a $2 post entry fee per class.
2. In order to keep the day running smoothly, the Lower Sand Ring will start early with warm-ups starting at 7:30 and Equitation flat classes starting at 8:30 AM. All other rings will start with warm ups at 8:00 AM and classes at 9:00 AM as usual.
3. All equitation flat classes run consecutively FIRST THING in the Lower Sand Ring with the equitation over fences classes running open card at division heights throughout the rest of the day. DO NOT LISTEN TO ESM TIME ESTIMATES, ESPECIALLY FOR EQUITATION CLASSES (Scroll down our feed to find our “Open Card Equitation: How Does it Work?” post if you are unsure what this means).
4. ESM time estimates do not take open card equitation classes or division warm ups into account, so they are NOT accurate for our shows. Please check in with your rings in-gate attendants regularly instead.
5. You can still add the August special class to your entry now or on Monday morning in the show office. The August show features the Damshacuir Memorial Thoroughbred Classic. This class jumps up the stairs from lower sand ring into grass concourse above. Open to Thoroughbreds Only. Compete at your division height starting at 2’0. Formal Attire is Requested. Trophy awarded to the winner.
6. Parking attendants will be on site in the morning to direct cars and trailers. Please cooperate with the attendants.
7. Well behaved leashed dogs are welcome at owners own risk. Please p**p and scoop.
8. Office and Food booth on site accept cash or cheque only.
9. Please check all attending horses temperatures the night before and the morning of the show. Resting temperature should not be above 38.6 degrees Celsius. If any horses at your barn, showing or non showing, has a higher than normal temperature, please do not bring any horses to the show.
10. Our show series is generously run almost entirely by our wonderful volunteers, including our office staff and in-gate attendants. Please show your appreciation and be kind!

I feel that this is very true! Stay the course. Get control of your own body and everything that follows will be easier.

I read a theory about why so many riders lack a deep command of basics, and it was explained like this---

Correct basics are hard to master because there is an enormous amount of repetition involved, and if someone has tried something hundreds, possibly thousands of times, and still can’t do it, it is easy for the person to conclude that he/she is taking on an impossible challenge.

In his book “Mastery,” George Leonard wrote that on the quest to become good, there will be long stretches of “seeming non-improvement.”

Like watching grass grow, change is happening, but so slowly that it can’t be measured daily, weekly, or even monthly. But at some point, for those who stick with it, “suddenly” they can do things that before they couldn’t do.

The issue is giving up in frustration before putting in those many many many many months of practice.

That is ONE theory. I am sure there are many others, but this one does ring true.

Congrats and Andarna on great start to their partnership this season!
