Lyla was all ears listening to how Hydrotherapy can keep her in shape while she waits for TPLO surgery. She is able to complete a full workout without applying stress to her knees. Signing up for Hydrotherapy before surgery can make recovery easier and when Lyla returns she will know what to expect for rehabilitation. Layla is taking all the right steps for a successful surgery and recovery! 🐾

Every dog owner’s biggest fear is having to put their dog through knee surgery but the success rate of 90% for full recovery can give you some reassurance. TPLO surgery eliminates the need for the cranial cruciate ligament by reconfiguring your dog’s knee. Due to the high degree of success, it has become the best choice of treatment for large breed dogs.

A dogs shoulder has 25 interlinked muscles designed to withstand large forces, provide extraordinary mobility and maintain forelimb stability and control. When a dog starts to limp on the front leg it can be difficult to determine what muscle or tendon has been hurt.

Bogart is a very active dog that loves to be outside exploring the woods. His owner noticed after exploring he would develop a limp on the front leg. After starting Hydrotherapy that limp has disappeared after activity! Hydrotherapy is able to build all the muscles/tendons in the shoulder without applying any stress to the joints. Bogart is happy to be back exploring without any pain! 🐾

Bowen Therapy is able to connect with the Central Nervous System in the most natural way. The nervous system is the communication network for innate intelligence. The brain and the spinal cord of the Central Nervous System sends and receives signals from the nerves in the body or the Peripheral Nervous System. If a body part loses communication with this network, it will begin to lose its proper function and not be synced to the rest of the body. It is vitally important for the body to be connected to the innate intelligence network as it can be properly protected as the animal is reforming and healing from injuries.

Sheroo recently had TPLO surgery on both knees. He has started in the Hydrotherapy program to increase range of motion, build muscle around the knees, reduce inflammation/swelling and get a full body workout without applying stress to his joints. Sheroo is on the road to a very successful recovery! 🐾

Hemivertebra is a congenital condition where a dog has one or more vertebrae that are deformed. The deformed vertebrae can cause twisting of the spinal cord leading to pain, unable to walk and weakness. Dogs that were bred to have “screw tails” such as the English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs and Boston Terriers are more susceptible to this condition.

Oscar has joined the Hydrotherapy program after being diagnosed with Hemivertebra. His owners are being proactive to make sure he builds proper muscle, core strength and reduce pain as much as possible to live a high quality life! 🐾

Super Dog Saturday!

Yesterday marked Baileys one year of joining the Hydrotherapy weight loss program! She came into the clinic weighing 90 pounds and only able to walk for 7 minutes in the tank. She is now 67 pounds and jogging in the tank for 30 minutes! Bailey has come a long way with very dedicated owners putting in the work at home while attending Hydrotherapy. It takes a village to raise a dog and I am glad to be apart of her village! Congratulations Bailey on an amazing transformation! 🐾

The patella, or “kneecap”, is normally located in a groove on the end of the femur just above the stifle. The term “luxating” means out of place or dislocated. This means a luxating patella is a kneecap that moves out of its normal location. This ligament attaches the large thigh muscles to a point on the centre front of the shine bone. Many toy or small breed dogs - Maltese, Chihuahuas, French Bulldogs and Bichon Frise have a genetic predisposition for a luxating patella. Owners will notice a skip in their dog’s step or see their dog run on three legs. Then suddenly they will be back on all four legs as if nothing happened. Many dogs will learn how to kick the leg out to the side and that will hyperextend the knee and snap the patella back into its normal location.

Milo has joined the Hydrotherapy Program to build muscle around his knees. The stronger the muscles are around the knees will prevent slipping of the patellas. He is already showing improvement after one session! 🐾
