An FHO, or femoral head ostectomy, is a surgical procedure that aims to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased or damaged hip, by removing the head and neck of the femur. This removes the ball of the ball-and-socket joint, leaving just an empty socket. The muscles of the leg will initially hold the femur in place and, over time, scar tissue will form to provide cushioning that is referred to as a ‘false joint’. Although this joint is anatomically very different from a normal hip joint, it provides pain-free mobility in most patients.

Honey had FHO surgery and has joined the Hydrotherapy program to build strength in his legs without applying any stress to his body. Honey is on the road to a very successful recovery! 🐾

Every dog owner’s biggest fear is having to put their dog through knee surgery but the success rate of 90% for full recovery can give you some reassurance. TPLO surgery eliminates the need for the cranial cruciate ligament by reconfiguring your dog’s knee. Due to the high degree of success, it has become the best choice of treatment for large breed dogs.

Bella was very focused in her Hydrotherapy session. She had TPLO surgery last year but is coming in for maintenance and help shed some pounds! She is ready to get back in shape for the summer! 🐾

Senior dogs require different care than that of a young dog. Dogs may be called “senior” at seven years of age, but in larger dogs they tend to age more quickly. The best way to keep your senior pet happy and healthy is to have regular vet check ups, have your dog on a well balanced diet and keep them active! As our dogs start to age they will start to develop arthritis, anxiety, weakness and lack of energy. These are very common issues that can be managed by creating a stable routine, adding holistic supplements and participating rehabilitation.

Fiona is in the Hydrotherapy program to help improve her mobility during her senior years! 🐾

Hip Dysplasia is a common skeletal condition that is often seen in large or giant breed dogs. This is when the hip joint develops abnormally leading to a loose fit joint that will cause pain and arthritis. Unfortunately there is no cure for hip dysplasia as it is a genetic trait found mostly in the German Shepherd, Great Dane and Labrador/ Golden Retriever. Luckily Hydrotherapy is great for dogs going through hip dysplasia. This therapy will help strengthen the muscles around the hip joints to create more stabilization and reducing arthritis pain.

Finley is one of the many dogs going through hip dysplasia. He was very happy to hear that the Hydrotherapy program that includes Bowen/PEMF Therapy will keep him fit and reduce pain naturally. 🐾

Yuki was all ears listening to how Hydrotherapy can keep her in shape while she waits for TPLO surgery. She is able to complete a full workout without applying stress to her knees. Signing up for Hydrotherapy before surgery can make recovery easier and when Yuki returns she will know what to expect during the session. Yuki is taking all the right steps for a successful surgery and recovery! 🐾

“Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning.” - William Arthur Ward

Tango was curious to know how joining the Hydrotherapy program was going to help him recover from his recent TPLO surgery. The Hydrotherapy program will help Tango increase range of motion in his knee without applying stress to the joint, build muscle around the knees, reduce inflammation/swelling and get a full body workout. Tango is on the road to a very successful recovery! 🐾

Dogs come in all shapes and sizes! This doesn’t mean one size of dog is more prone to injury than the other. This crew came in for a maintenance and learning session. Willow (front left) has been in the Hydrotherapy program for a few years now to keep her body fit as she has mild elbow dysplasia. Odin (back) joined the Bowen Therapy program to reduce arthritis pain and sore muscles. Daisy (right) tried Hydrotherapy for her first time to burn off some puppy energy and had a blast doing it! All of them left happy, relaxed and tired! 🐾
