This fascinating trait occurs because of varying amounts of melanin in the eyes. For example, dogs with brown eyes have a high concentration of melanin, while those with blue eyes have none in the stroma—the part of the iris that dictates eye colour. 🩵

In dogs with heterochromia, the melanin levels can differ between each eye, or even within different parts of the same eye, creating those uniquely beautiful looks we can’t help but adore! 🐾
