Did you know Muscovy ducks don’t quack, but communicate like this? These two adorable boys love chatting and following us around, spilling the tea on all their rooster neighbors’ shenanigans. 😂

For anyone who’d like to watch the boys preen after all of us have been enjoying the cool wet weather here on the west coast. John also put everyone on alert when he decided to flap his wings, which in turn made Josh decide to vocalize his top dog status and “politely” ask Henry to get off his perch. All caught on camera. 🥰🎥
.
You can also see Poseidon and Apollo hanging out in the back in their temporary shared enclosure with the rooster boys, while we finish up their permanent future home next door. 🦆🦆

Anyone who has had to dig post holes manually or even with a hand-held auger, will understand the pure joy we felt using this tractor auger attachment today for the first time! 😭 (happy tears) This will make fencing the top for the goats and pigs so much easier when the posts arrive later this month! 🥳
Permanent enclosures land prep almost completed! Thank you Aaron! 😍
Welcome our newest member, aptly named by his rescuers, Mr Cluckers.
.
Cluck was found wandering around Burnaby, where they allow backyard chickens, or more precisely hens. Ppl probably hatched some eggs without realizing (or caring) there’s a 50/50 chance they’d be a boy, and because city bylaws don’t allow roosters, decide to dump him as an easy meal for predators. Luckily for him, it didn’t come to that.
.
He was tested off site for avian influenza and it came back clear, so was able to come here yesterday! To say we were surprised about how small he is, is an understatement 🤣 He’s currently in quarantine at the PEACE Rescue Barn, and when he’s a bit bigger, we’ll introduce him to the rest of the boys here at PEACE Farm Sanctuary.
Boyz enjoying a mechanically produced breeze to help them stay cool in this unusually warm spring weather 🍃

Thank you so much everyone who gave us name suggestions for Ana’s new little ones! It was so hard to pick but as a family the most votes went towards Willow (girl) and River (boy). Thank you Angie for the suggestion! ♥️

When we were notified that Avian Flu is full on starting up again in B.C. (we had a short break this Summer), we had this tarp ready to cover the boys, which was a project we completed recently.
