We always want to make it fun, for us and them! I provide physical and mental exercise prior to our training session, it's easier for them to focus. When we are teaching something new or adding distractions, we should use a high value reward, until the behaviour is learned.

Our dog's nose prints are unique - just like our fingerprints. Dogs have 3 eyelids, the 3rd lid helps prevent injuries to their eyes. Dogs mental capacity is the same as a toddler. They understand tone better than words. Do you have any info that you would like to share?

Make it fun for you and the dog. Always start in a location, where there are little to no distractions. We want to set them up for success! Always try to end each session, with a success. Don't persist on something that's not working. Of course, ALWAYS use food.

❄️❄️Cold weather tips❄️❄️. This type of dog may love the snow and the cold, but for most it's too cold! If you do walk your dog, please make sure that you clean off their paws, to remove any salt or dirt. It can get between their toes and paw pads and cause skin irritation and don't let them lick their paws. I would suggest a coat, if your dog doesn't like coats, this is an excellent article on how to teach them to wear one: https://www.companionanimalpsychology.com/2023/11/how-to-train-your-dog-to-wear-coat-or.html
We can keep them active and engaged indoors by playing games with them, using food puzzles or other enrichment games and activities.

Fun Fact Friday
We know that dogs can see blue and yellow, but did you know that they can detect movement, in the dark, better than us? They have a reflective layer behind the retina that reflects light back. Plus they have larger pupils. They can't see in complete darkness, but neither can I!

Why walk your dog Wednesday
Aside from the obvious, physical exercise, there are so many more benefits! Always take time to let them sniff, this provides mental stimulation for them - it's their primary sense and it needs to be utilized. By processing new scents, they are working their brain, it's great to take them on different routes; hence different scents.

Always use food to train! Timing is soooo important! The que (what are you asking for - sit), the behaviour (dog sits) and the reward immediately. This way you are immediately reinforcing the desired behaviour. I would love to see a training pic, of you and your dog.
