Following up on the probable navicular case, here is the post trim video as the comments won't allow it to upload. Check out the original post for more info.
Today I saw a new horse, probable navicular disease case. Showing symptoms of lameness when loading the heels and tight turns. This mare spent most of her life doing circles as a therapeutic horse.
A lot of us may be tricked into believing only the front end is the issue when a lot of the time when there are issues up front, they can be exaggerated by an unhappy hind end. This mare is a great example. I looked at this mare a couple weeks ago and noted that she's flat and walking on her soles in the front and hinds and she has a minor point with her fronts. Watching this mare walk out for the first time pre trim today you can tell she is uncomfortable on all 4 feet, not just her fronts. Shortness in stride, looks very "ouchy". Her feet were unbalanced, loading on the soles instead of her walls, and again, very sore when loading the heel area of the front hooves.
By balancing her feet accordingly M/L and D/P, as well as relieving sole pressure and a nasty abscess under the bar that was neglected to be opened on the Right Hind, this mare walked off much happier. We were able to make her more comfortable and track up better by taking the load off of her soles and onto her walls and having the pressure being equal by balancing correctly. She is not 100% by any means. Her turning has improved and lameness is mostly noted when her hoof is not directly under her thus loading the heel end of the hoof. I will do an update on this lovely mare. Hopefully we can get some xrays done on her soon so we can treat her issues accordingly.
After video is in the comments.
