Remember Valentina and her wonderful 7 puppies that made the long journey all the way from Moose Factory in Northern Ontario? 🐾 Well, the time has come—her sweet pups are starting to look for their forever homes! 💖

Although they’re not quite old enough to leave mom yet, these cuties will be ready to go home starting March 19th. 🗓️

Raised in a loving environment with kids, cats, and dogs, these puppies are affectionate, adventurous, and ready to bring lots of joy to their new families! 🐶✨

Thank you to Petfinder Foundation Petfinder Foundation for awarding Halfway Home K9 Rescue the 2025 Dog Enrichment Grant!

This will allow us to purchase many enrichment items that can be used for physical activity promotion including frisbees, balls, tug toys and flirt poles.

Other essential items like lick mats, kongs, snuffle balls/mats, and bones can be given out to our foster homes for our dog’s mental stimulation. This is important to help them adapt to indoor living, especially coming from outdoor climates.

We would like to highlight how Petfinder has assisted two of our very recent intakes:

Blackie is a young puppy that urgently flew South after suffering an unknown leg injury for days until he could get into care. He required a leg amputation and has needed a variety of enrichment toys to provide entertainment and distraction while healing from his surgery.

Sasha is a mom of seven puppies that built a den in a flipped over car in a remote area of Manitoba. She has required many enrichment toys to keep her mind active, and to adjust to a home and crate. Almost all of her puppies have been adopted, and she is very deserving of finding her very own loving home now!

🌟 Nugget is looking for her forever home! 🌟

Nugget came to us in November from a heartbreaking puppy mill/hoarding situation with 25 dogs and over 100 cats. She was very pregnant and gave birth just hours after arriving in our care. Now, after caring for her pups, Nugget is ready to find a calm, loving family to call her own. 🐾

Here’s what Nugget needs in a home:
• A calm household to help her recover from her spay.
• Preferably no kids (she’s scared of fast movements and loud noises).
• A fenced yard, as she’s afraid of walking on a leash.
• A quiet, loving environment with maybe a few dog-friendly kitties (Nugget loves cats and would adore snuggling them!) 🐱
• Ideally, in the St. Thomas area for ongoing vet care.

Nugget is 3 years old, good with other dogs (but prefers to be the only dog or with a calm, small one), and is p*e pad trained! She’s cautious with new people but extremely affectionate once she’s comfortable. She might be shy at first, but her love is unconditional once she trusts you. 💖

Nugget does have an old injury or deformity to her front left leg that will likely require amputation. We are hoping to find a foster to adopt home for her that is comfortable in helping her through the recovery process. Her current foster family is very busy and fast paced and a more laid back environment would be ideal.

🐾 Meet Benji – Your Future Adventure Buddy! 🐾

Benji is back and ready to find his forever family! He was surrendered by his owner in November and we are told he is an Australian Shepherd-Poodle mix. Now 10 months old, Benji has made incredible progress after spending time with stylek9dogtraining to refresh his obedience and learn manners. He’s doing exceptionally well and is about ready to start his next chapter.

We’re looking for a Foster to Adopt home for Benji starting March 13th when his board and train ends. Benji is a smart and motivated boy who learns quickly, making him a joy to work with. He loves chew toys, tug of war, and playing fetch. He’s also a cuddler who enjoys long walks and can happily settle down with his favorite toy after playtime. Benji is crate trained, house trained, and loves having toys available to chew on.

While Benji is still a young pup, he needs a home where he can be the only pet, as he doesn’t get along with other dogs or cats inside the home. He would thrive with an active, experienced owner who is home more often than not and ready for outdoor adventures. A fenced yard would be ideal to allow Benji to burn off some of his high energy.

Benji needs slow introductions to new people, but once he’s comfortable, he’s a loving and loyal companion. He requires consistent training and structure to help him continue to be the good boy he is. His reactivity came from anxiety and lack of exposure, but with the right guidance, he is sure to become the best companion. He is no longer reactive on walks with training.

🐾 Update on Blackie! 🐾

Blackie had his surgery yesterday and did AMAZING! 🎉 He’s now at home, recovering with his incredible foster family. We’re so relieved to see him on the mend.

A huge thank you to Brisdale Animal Hospital for making immediate availability with the orthopedic surgeon and providing such wonderful care. 🙏 We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of our supporters for your shares and donations. Your generosity makes it possible for us to help dogs like Blackie, and we couldn’t do it without you. 💖

Sasha / Spayed Female / 3-4 Years / Husky Mix / 48lbs / Dogs: Yes / Cats: Yes / Kids: Yes / Location: Markham 📍

Meet Sasha, a sweet and gentle soul who is finally recovered and ready to find her forever family! 🐾 Sasha came to us through another rescue after traveling all the way from Manitoba with her 5 puppies. While her babies have already found their homes, it’s now Sasha’s turn to find the perfect family. 💕

Sasha is around 3-4 years old and is a beautiful husky mix from northern Manitoba. Sasha loves her walks and is great on leash, though she can get a bit excited when she spots a squirrel! 🐿️ She also enjoys playing in the snow and spending her downtime relaxing near her humans. Whether it’s laying around with her foster dog brother or at your feet while you work, Sasha is content to be by your side.

She’s a little shy at first, but with patience, she opens up and becomes a loving companion. Sasha can be timid around new people, but once she feels comfortable, she’ll greet you with a wagging tail. Despite her occasional anxiety, she’s a laid-back and good-natured dog. She’s also good with other dogs and cats, mostly ignoring them. 🐶🐱

Sasha is low energy for a husky, and after a bit of adjustment, she’s the perfect companion. She’s already potty trained, sleeps peacefully through the night, and is just looking for that special someone to love and care for her forever. Sasha is ready to be your loyal, sweet girl! 💖

Charizard’s favorite things include his crinkly octopus toy, puppy rope toys, and, of course, head scratches! 🙌 He’s a calm, quiet soul who is playful and curious once he feels comfortable. Though he’s a little shy at first, once he warms up, he’s all about being your best friend. 🐾

Evie is all about fun—she loves crinkle toys, running around in the yard, and playing in the snow. Her zoomies will have you in stitches as she runs up and down the stairs, wrestling with her brother. She’s also super curious, always the first to explore new places and even taking time to admire herself in the mirror! 🪞

This sweet girl is food motivated (who isn't? 😋) and absolutely loves making new furry friends—she's been exposed to cats and was eager to sniff and play with them.

Meet Houston! 🐶 He is one of the Six Nations 12 Houston is an adventurous little pup, always ready to play and explore with anyone interested human or furry. He is amazing with kids, dogs of any size and cats, although the cats have been less interested in him! Houston is a high energy pup which so far has two modes- full sp*ed and sleep! He loves to find hidden corners to hide and when you find him, he will greet you with the biggest, silliest smile! He loves to play with his big foster brother and littermate, Comet and then snuggle up with his human for some loving while he recharges. Houston is smart, he quickly learned to sit at doors to ask to go in or outside, he is still working on his release though! He knows his name and to come when called but sometimes he will wait to respond until he is finished what he is doing. Houston is a clever little climber and a bit of a Houdini so we often joke “Houston, we have a problem.” But he is always eager to please so it’s all in fun! 🤭

Houston loves snuggling and belly rubs, tug and chew toys, soft beds and treats. He is a furry snuggle bug who sleeps carefree on his back showing his trust in his pack. Houston loves his crate and will often take his toys in with him during the day to rest or simply to play. He makes it through the night and is housetrained (so long as I listen) but if I am too slow and he has an accident, he isn’t done, he’s just trying really hard not to mess the floors.

Houston is current on age appropriate vaccines and is microchipped. He is being fostered in Innisfil.

Meet Comet! 💫 He is one of the Six Nations 12! A mix of many unknown breeds, well known as a Rez dog. Likely some shepherd and lab in there among many others. He is a solid little man, just waiting for someone to cuddle up with. 💞

Comet is a curious puppy who loves exploring and finding dens to rest in, indoors and out. He is a low-key dog but will be more than happy to join in on adventures once you have gained his trust. He is great with kids, dogs and cats but prefers when the house is on a calmer mode. He loves to dig and hide his treasures after playing with his big foster brother and littermate, Houston. Comet is smart, he quickly learned to sit at doors to ask to go in or outside, he is still working on his release though! He knows his name and to come when called. He LOVES going on the couch, and always looks disappointed that it is a no-no in his foster home. 🙈

He takes a minute to warm up to new things but once he does, he is the sweetest little ball of love who sleeps in the most entertaining positions showing his trust in his pack. Comets dark eyes always make his look like he’s thinking about something, but the stardust on his nose shows he is really something special!

Emma’s sweet babies are 3 weeks old! 🥺 Are these not the cutest things you’ve ever seen? Emma is a wonderful mom, she takes great care of her babies! We will be posting these sweet treats in about 3 weeks, though they won’t go to their new families until they are 8 weeks old. Keep an eye on our page for more updates!
