As a hospital that will be able to perform advanced and invasive surgical procedures on patients, it is equally as important to have a strong anesthesia team to keep our patients safe and pain-free. The Lakeshore AHP anesthesia department understands the importance of targeting pain control through a variety of methods.

Implementing advanced technologic equipment only helps us to serve our patients with greater accuracy and precision. One such example is ultrasound-guided nerve blocks. Anesthesiologists are able to visualize specific nerves with ultrasound, and then inject local-acting pain medication directly at the site of the nerve. This helps them target the source of pain directly at the source, without systemic side effects of pain medications!

We are so excited to finally start introducing you to the amazing team that will be ready to care for your pets at Lakeshore AHP!

This week, we present the Critical Care department! We are so lucky to have four specialists for our ICU, ensuring 24/7 availability for our sickest patients.

Come meet the team in person at our last remaining open house for veterinary professionals, this Saturday February 11th from 9:30am to 5:30pm.

Nothing makes us more excited than seeing concept turn into reality!

Our surgery department includes 5 large operating rooms, one of which has second floor viewing gallery access that will allow great learning opportunities for students and staff. The anesthesia induction area is connected directly to the operating suites for easy flow of patients from one area to another, and there is a dedicated separate area for patient recovery. This recovery area is fully visible through sliding glass doors, is immediately adjacent to the anesthesia induction area for close monitoring at all times, and has been built as an intentionally quiet space that will allow pets to wake up slowly and stress-free.

Both of these areas are ready for you to walk through at one of our open houses! Join us at one of our two remaining openings for veterinary professionals!

We’re busy preparing to host you at our upcoming open houses!

Today our team unpacked important equipment for the ICU, including our Drager mechanical ventilator and pediatric hospital crib. Both will be used in tandem to take care of some of the sickest patients in our hospital.

Join us at one of our three open houses for veterinary professionals over the next 2 weeks!

This is your chance to see our upcoming state-of-the-art specialty facility before it opens in March!

Anyone in the veterinary profession is welcome to drop by any time during the time windows provided. When you arrive, please sign in at front door. Our management and medical teams will be there to greet you and take you through the facility.

*** Hard Hats and Steel Toed Shoes will not be required to see the ER/ICU and Surgery departments, but will be required for the remainder of the facility. Limited quantities of safety equipment will be available to access the remainder of the facility.

Mechanical ventilation is a form of life support, where a machine is used to breathe for a patient when they cannot breathe on their own. In veterinary medicine, it is used to help save patients with severe, but reversible, lung conditions that would not survive without this help.

Ventilators are used by critical care specialists that have undergone extensive training in using these machines. Patients on ventilators require intensive 24/7 care and monitoring, performed by highly skilled ICU technicians.

This is just one of the advanced interventions that our Lakeshore AHP ICU team will be offering! Lakeshore AHP is dedicated to providing human level care to our animal patients. There is no better example than our 1500 sqft ICU, which has been intentionally designed as the heart of the hospital. It is immediately adjacent to our 24 hour emergency service and surrounded by the other specialty services to facilitate a collaborative approach to the treatment of all hospitalized patients.

It was thoughtfully planned to improve accuracy, reduce noise pollution to provide a quiet healing environment, and ensure easy access and sightlines for patient monitoring at all times.

Our ICU can house 28 patients, features a separate isolation ward, an acoustic run for our noise sensitive pets, 2 oxygen cages, and a dedicated crib for those requiring the most intensive care. It will include advanced equipment including mechanical ventilation, electronic treatment plans, and a central monitoring system with telemetry. Access to the most current technology ensures we can provide the highest level of care to your pets and improve patient outcome.
