📚 Chewing is a natural dog behaviour, as it provides enrichment & drains energy, but chewing excessively can lead to fractured teeth and lacerated gums

🦷 Many popular chews such as leg bones, rib bones, antlers, cow hooves, hard plastic chews, and even ice cubes can crack dogs' teeth when excessively chewed

⚠️ To ensure your dog's safety:

⏰️ Set a time limit — Allow your dog to chew for no more than 20 minutes at a time.

🤝 Propose a trade — Offering your dog a tasty treat in exchange for their chew can help prevent Resource Guarding issues.

😛 Adding a Cue Word when you catch your dog drinking like "good boy drink" can be extremely beneficial when you need them to drink water like after play, and when it's hot out.

🥛 You can even add a hand signal to the "Drink Cue" using sign language (asl - American Sign Language)

🫶 The sign for "drink" is made by forming your right hand into the letter "C." Move the hand to your mouth in a short arc.

🐕‍🦺 Start by es**rting your dog on a leash to the area on your property that you want them to potty in the long term.

🔁 Plant your feet and give them the whole 360° range of the leash to pick a spot.

✅️ When the dog goes potty in the acceptable area, reward them with praise, or food and
immediately release the dog off the leash (provided it's safe to do so) to sniff and
play as the reward.

💩 This ensures that they don't leave "landmines'' everywhere and keep their businesl one spot.

🐕 Over time the leash will no longer be necessary, they will go to their potty spot out of habit.

🚫 Asking for consent to pet them means you invite the dog into your space from a few feet away, if they choose not to approach you, No Means No!

🤗 If they move into your personal space when you invite them, they are consenting to being touched.

🤷🏻‍♀️ Invite them into your space, don't invade theirs otherwise you won't know if they're enjoying your attention, or just tolerating you.

🗣📢 Warning Signs that you may need to attend my Resource Guarding Webinar...

✋😾🍖 If your dog has a possession and you walk passed, or approach, the first signs of guarding are:

1️⃣ They stop engaging with the item until you walk away.

2️⃣ Freezing (a stiff body posture)

3️⃣ Pinned back ears

4️⃣ Tucking their tail between their legs

5️⃣ Show the whites of their eyes

6️⃣ Licking their lips repeatedly

7️⃣ Their heckles may stand up (hair on the back of their neck)

8️⃣ Growling & bearing their teeth

9️⃣ Urinate

🔟 lunging & biting as a last resort to keep us away.

🔴︎The Power Chewer
Main objective is to rip, tear, and destroy toys.

🟡The Average Chewer
Sometimes passive with toys, others times they are in destruction mode.

🟢The Moderate Chewer
Lowkey with toys and rarely destructive, they prefer plush toys and easy level puzzles.

Here is a link for my Enrichment Toy recommendations:

----------------------------------

📚 Providing your dog with enrichment everyday ensures you are meeting their needs, which can prevent boredom and help redirect common behavioral issues like separation anxiety, destruction, and over-excitement due to a lack of healthy energy-draining outlets.

👀 ALWAYS supervise your dog during enrichment activities and throw away toys that become damaged.

》Does Your Dog Come On Strong During Greetings?

》Comment Below, Share & Tag Your Fellow Pet Parents! 🗣👇

🫂 Teaching your dog that they must be calm on leash to earn permission to greeting people and dogs during walks, and when guests arrive will define what appropriate social behavior is.

🤪 Without the leash on during greetings, over-excitement can easily turn into jumping, nipping, and tangled leashes, which means their last impression with socialization will be jumping and going crazy.

🧘‍♀️ By teaching them they must be calm before earning permission to say hello, even with family members, it will enable you to communicate with them when it is appropriate to say hello, and when it is not.

🌋 Once calm on leash, don't give your dog more than 5 - 10 seconds of physical contact during a polite greeting, or it will most likely result in over-excitement.

🤕 Your dog must be on a harness with the leash clipped on the back to avoid injury or worse.

🚲 The guideline with a harness is, if the leash hooks to the dog's back it will help them pull more, which is beneficial for safely when cycling, carting, resistance training, or when the dog is on a long leash.

⚖️ A harness that hooks the leash to your dog's chest helps them pull less, as it changes the center of gravity so they no longer have the advantage.

🐕‍🦺 When first arriving in a new environment, teaching your dog where they can and cannot go by taking them on a tour can alleviate stress, and give them a better sense of what to expect

🪑Expert Tip: Bringing your dog's bed from home will represent their 'chair' in social settings, and make it easier for them to relax

Here are 5️⃣ Tips to help your dog make a good first impression:

🚙1️⃣ As soon as you are out of your vehicle, es**rt your dog on leash to the area on the property that
you want them to potty before going in (ensure they are 'empty')

👀2️⃣ Do not allowed your dog to enter until they are calm, meaning you might have to stand on their porch, or wait in their building foyer for awhile

🚪3️⃣ Once indoors, take your pooch on a ‘On-Leash Perimeter Walk’ in the area of the home that they will occupy

🗑4️⃣ Ensure you disagree with any unwanted behavior along the way like sticking their head in the garbage, trying to go up or down stairs, or messing with kitty litter before giving them off-leash freedom

🧺5️⃣ If your dog becomes over-excited or misbehaves, sending them 'To Your Bed' or using the 'Place' cue and putting them back on leash is a great way to remind your dog to control their emotions. Once calm, they can earn their freedom

Let's talk about

Walking together encourages dog to dog bonding, builds impulse control, and teaches your dog how to gain or give
trust to new dogs or people in a calm and predictable way.

---Instructions---

Once the dogs are comfortable with each other at a distance (no barking, lunging, prolonged eye contact, or demanding play) start closing the gap between them, until you eventually have them side by side with the humans on the inside:

🐺+👩+👱🏻+🐶

If the close proximity between the dogs causes a reaction (barking,
lunging, prolonged eye contact, or demanding play) stagger them again until they are comfortable.

If they stay calm, switch the calmer dog into the middle position (one dog in the middle at a time)

👩+🐺+👱🏻+🐶

If they are still calm and ignoring each other, the end result of the Pack Walk should be:

👩+🐺+🐶+👱🏻

The process of getting two dogs to stay calm while walking side by side may take 3 - 5 separate interactions, so be as patient and as consistent as possible.

⁉️Did You Know⁉️

Dogs are about as intelligent as a two year old child⁉️

Studies have shown that dogs can learn over 100 words and gestures, which puts their intelligence and understanding of us on a par with a two year old human 🧠📚

However, dogs are much easier to condition than a two year old! 🤸‍♂️🥱

Dog's are used for all sorts of jobs, from Search-and-Rescue roles, to Farm Hearding & Service Dogs, to Detection Work because they're both clever and extremely loyal animals 🐑🔍🦮

⁉️Did You Know⁉️

The average dog can sleep up to 15 hours per day⁉️

Puppies and large breeds can sleep up to 18 hours per day!👶🏻

Humans typically follow a binary sleep pattern:
▪︎16 hours a day awake,
▪︎8 hours (if you're lucky) a night sleeping 😴

Dogs typically do not follow the same pattern:
▪︎15 hours a day awake,
▪︎5 hours spent AWAKE & INACTIVE,
▪︎4 hours of the day are spent AWAKE & ACTIVE! 🐕

WHY⁉️
Humans spend 25% of the night in REM sleep, but Dogs only spend 10% in REM sleep⏳

REM is the "deep sleep" stage where our active dreaming occurs. Because dogs reach REM less, they need more sleep overall to get adequate rest 🥱💭
When a dog sleeps and how much a dog sleeps depends on the amount of activity they get 🏃‍♀️

THE MORE ACTIVE THE DOG, THE LESS SLEEEP THEY NEED 🤸‍♂️

In an interview in 2013, Paul McCartney said he added a frequency only dogs can hear to the end of the Beatles song 'A Day in the Life' So watch your dog when you play the song!🐶🎶

⁉️Did You Know⁉️

Dogs are able to see much better in dim light than humans⁉️

This is due to the tapetum lucidum, a light-reflecting layer behind the retina 🔦👀

Because it functions like a mirror, it also accounts for the strange shine or glow in a dog's eyes at night🪞🌃👁
