Meet Sammy, a Samoyed who was brought to the shelter as a stray. He has a striking, fluffy double coat and is filled with youthful energy. However, his manners are not always the best, which is understandable given his circumstances. It's unclear if Sammy has ever been groomed before, but his outer coat appears healthy, and yet, his undercoat is a mess of entanglements. When left unattended, matted coats can cause numerous skin and health problems. The lack of air circulation to the skin can lead to hot spots, bacterial and fungal infections, and parasites, such as fleas, ticks, and maggots, may lurk in the coat, causing further skin infections. Matted fur also pulls and binds, causing pain when the dog moves or lays on the mats. Moreover, the coat will not dry properly, leading to rotting fur and skin.

In order to take care of Sammy's matted coat, the required grooming sessions may be long, stressful, or even painful. For Sammy's well-being, it was decided that the best course of action was to give him a fresh start, despite having a double coat.

When selecting a pet, it's crucial to understand the at-home grooming requirements and to schedule regular grooming appointments with a professional groomer. If you're unable to commit to the grooming requirements or can't afford regular grooming visits, you may want to consider a different breed altogether. With so many different brushes and combs available, it can be overwhelming to choose the right tools. However, your groomer will be happy to provide suggestions on the best tools to use at home.

Voici Sammy, un Samoyède qui a été amené au refuge en tant qu'animal errant. Il a un double pelage remarquable et duveteux et il est plein d'énergie. Cependant, ses manières ne sont pas toujours les meilleures, ce qui est compréhensible compte tenu de sa situation. On ne sait pas si Sammy a déjà été toiletté, mais son pelage extérieur semble sain, alors que son sous-poil est enchevêtré. Lorsqu'il n'est pas entretenu, un pelage emmêlé peut être à l'origine de nombreux problèmes de peau et de santé. Le manque de circulation de l'air dans la peau peut provoquer des points chauds, des infections bactériennes et fongiques, et des parasites, comme les puces, les tiques et les asticots, peuvent se cacher dans le pelage, provoquant d'autres infections cutanées. La fourrure emmêlée tire et s'attache, ce qui provoque des douleurs lorsque le chien se déplace ou se couche sur la fourrure emmêlée. De plus, le pelage ne sèche pas correctement, ce qui entraîne le pourrissement de la fourrure et de la peau.

Pour prendre soin du pelage emmêlé de Sammy, les séances de toilettage nécessaires peuvent être longues, stressantes, voire douloureuses. Pour le bien-être de Sammy, il a été décidé que la meilleure solution était de lui donner un nouveau départ, même s'il a un double pelage.

Lorsque vous choisissez un animal de compagnie, il est essentiel de comprendre les exigences du toilettage à domicile et de prendre régulièrement rendez-vous avec un toiletteur professionnel. Si vous ne pouvez pas vous engager à respecter les exigences en matière de toilettage ou si vous n'avez pas les moyens de vous offrir des visites de toilettage régulières, vous pouvez considérer une autre race. Avec la multitude de brosses et de peignes disponibles, il peut être difficile de choisir les bons outils. Toutefois, votre toiletteur sera heureux de vous donner des conseils sur les meilleurs outils à utiliser à la maison.
