Don't worry about this activity dirtying your pup l! They won't be making any direct contact but it will be a fun and stimulating activity nonetheless.

One way to say "I love you" is by booking your pup into our spa program to help them overcome their fear of grooming.

At our spa, dogs have access to several features such as:

📍 Our big, fenced in yard
📍 Our beautiful, calming spa space
📍 A variety of treats to accommodate different dietary needs
📍Other dogs to encourage socialization

They are also:
🌸 Constantly monitored by professionals
🌸 Desensitized to tools used in grooming practices
🌸 Encouraged with puzzles and exercises to be mentally stimulated
🌸 Consistently receiving personal care throughout their spa booking.

Evaluations are totally free of charge and all dogs must pass one before being allowed access.

🍓 Trust: We're big on this here. It's vital in this establishment that we take time earning and building trust with your dog. Our exercises wouldn't work otherwise. Trust is the foundation of what we do here. A trusting dog is more relaxed and more confident in what it's doing.

🍓 Desensitization: The act of introducing a dog to something slowly, at its own pace.

🍓 Counter-conditioning: The act of changing a dogs emotional response, feelings or attitude towards a certain stimulus. In this case, varying aspects of grooming as well as grooming as a whole.

🍓 Confidence: Training to any degree helps build confidence. This is great for ALL dogs, but especially more anxious and fearful pups who need the confidence boost.

We are constantly repeating that we are force free and fear free. This is because those attributes are the foundation for our approach to pet care.

We use positive reinforcement because it's a science based approach and because we would want our personal dogs approached the exact same way.

We post a lot of reels like this, but good dog training doesn't always make for good entertainment. It's long, it's repetitive, and it requires a lot of patience.

We spend a lot of time making sure dogs are in a comfortable space where they feel safe enough to learn. Grooming is a frightening experience for many, but we never push them past their limit and always look for behaviours that let us know they want to stop the exercise.

Oppy made amazing progress in this one session. But as you can see in our previous reels, progress like this does not often happen fast.

Oppy is overcoming his fear and discomfort one day at a time, and we are so proud of him for it. ❤️

Nous publions beaucoup de bobines comme celle-ci, mais un bon dressage de chien ne constitue pas toujours un bon divertissement. C'est long, c'est répétitif, et cela demande beaucoup de patience.

Nous passons beaucoup de temps à nous assurer que les chiens sont dans un espace confortable où ils se sentent suffisamment en sécurité pour apprendre. Le toilettage est une expérience effrayante pour beaucoup, mais nous ne les poussons jamais au-delà de leurs limites et nous sommes toujours à l'affût des comportements qui nous font savoir qu'ils veulent arrêter l'exercice.

Let's talk about snuffle mats!

A snuffle mat is a type of feeder that stimulates a dogs natural foraging instincts. This allows them to solve puzzles with their nose, which provides several benefits, including:

🌸 Alleviating stress
🌸 Combats boredom
🌸 Provides entertainment for physically challenged dogs.
🌸 Eliminates consequences of speedy eating.
🌸 Decreases heart rate

A snuffle mat "creates a platform for play, slow eating, and mental stimulation."

Just be sure to monitor your dog while they use the snuffle mat. Destructive pups prone to chewing could loosen material strips, which can be a choking hazard.

The Fear Impact Period 🐺

From 8 to 11 weeks any trauma can have a detrimental impact, more so than if it had occurred at any other time.

This is the most common age for people to get a puppy. Proper socialization during this period is very important. Lack of socialization can create a dog who is afraid of people, other dogs or new places.

Many people choose to socialize their dogs at the dog park. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a safe place for socialization, especially during such a fragile period in your puppies life.

A dog park is an uncontrolled environment where the variables are constantly changing. An early traumatic experience could lead to long term reactivity and anxiety towards other dogs.

At our Spaw, all dogs must undergo a behavioural evaluation. All of our employees are trained to read canine body language and are accustomed to certain behaviours and mannerisms. This ensures a solid structure for appropriate socialization while acting as a preventative measure for early trauma.

Between 4-6 months our puppy friends transition from puppy hood to adolescence. Having structure and a good routine is fundamental for a smooth transition.

🌸 Introducing The Puppy Spaw 🌸

This program was created to expose puppies to a grooming environment during the prime time in their development. We work on a series of confidence building exercises over the course of a month to help ensure longterm comfort with grooming maintenance.

This includes helping puppies acclimate to toothbrushes, nail clippers, dremel, brushing, baths and more. Our space allows your puppy to socialize, encouraging physical, mental and intellectual stimulation. Our end goal is to help you on your path to a well-rounded and confident adult dog, by giving you all the tools you need to accomplish this.

Crate training is done throughout the day to meet the requirements for sleep at their age. We work using force free methods and positive reinforcement, with a background deeply rooted in a scientific approach to pet care.

Our spa open up opportunities for access to a wonderful social structure for your pup, in a safe and controlled environment. Our primary focus is the wellbeing and hygiene of your furry friend. We reward positive behaviour, and consistent stimulation at our spa can have additional benefits such as minimizing destructive habits at home.

Grooming can be a frightening experience for dogs, but it doesn't have to be.

Our spa focuses on desensitizing dogs to common stimuli found in grooming environments. Desensitization is the process of introducing a dog to new stimuli by working slowly and at the dogs pace. This allows your dog to safely adjust to something he may not have been comfortable with before.

This experience is designed to stimulate your dog mentally, physically and intellectually. Between grooming exercises, we allow our pups to socialize in a controlled environment. This adds to the spa benefit of promoting mental wellbeing. Consistent stimulation helps reduce destructive habits and promote better behaviour.

Some of our current services include:

🌸 Fur maintenance and matting prevention
🌸 Dental hygiene
🌸 Socialization and stimulation
🌸 Bath and blow dry (coming soon)

👉 We do not currently provide cuts and trims. We intend to offer this service in the near future once we have a certified behavioural groomer. This is an uncommon and new approach, so limited people are qualified.

We are fear free certified and use force free methods with a background rooted in a scientific approach to pet care.

We are located at 6244 Sherbrooke Street West and our launch date is set for Monday, January 17.

Every dog in our care must undergo an evaluation. Evaluations are completely free of charge and are for the safety of our dogs and staff.
