Imagine your Dog Walker was a Professional Trainer?
Training Walks are a 1-hour service made to support the training you're already doing with us.
One of our trainers will come by to work one-on-one with your dog, focusing on leash manners, reactivity, and basic obedience. We’ll run through the drills you’ve been assigned and adjust based on how your dog is doing that week.

Each session includes around 50 minutes of hands-on training, plus a few minutes at the start to check in and at the end to review how things went and what to work on next.

It’s a great way to help your dog make progress while you take a well-earned break.
This service is only available to current clients.
Send us an email or give us a DM if you're interested!

Teaching your dog neutrality is super important, so that they can learn how to regulate their emotions when different distractions pop up. Having a good base of engagement and relationship will obviously help too.

Another thing to look out for is if you are asking too much of your dog, or not communicating clearly when it’s time to work vs time for freedom. Be mindful of this and when you are applying pressure to the leash unnecessarily. A lot of frustration build up for a puppy on a walk comes from the handling and the communication.

One of the biggest culprits for dogs being over-excited on a walk is how you start indoors. Instead of hyping your dog up for a walk, be calm and collected, or even do some obedience training right before. Another thing to do is work on some engagement when you get outside before releasing them to go sniff or start the walk.

There is so much info out there about what to do with a puppy, a lot of it is either conflicting or flat out wrong.

The first few months of bringing in a puppy, or a dog of any age, is so crucial. Invest the time and effort to make sure you get it right, and if you aren’t sure where to start, hiring a professional is never a bad idea.

Is your dog pulling towards other dogs?

Just because dogs are sitting, does not mean they should be given the opportunity to greet people or dogs.

When dealing with over-excited and jumpy dogs, it’s not just about the obedience or the behaviour that comes before the release word (hopefully you have one), it’s about the emotional state they are in. Basically you want your dog to be neutral.

If they sit, and are vibrating with excitement, and then you release them to say hi, they will likely jump and go nuts. At that point just cut out the middle man, forget the sit, and let them jump from the beginning.

Instead, wait for calm, then release, and if they show too much excitement restart the process.

For a lot dogs, the way to fix this can be more complex than this, and if you need help, hit us up!
