Congrats to our winner!!!! I’ll touch base with you for your prize details!
Every time Hoover sees the camera come out… 🤣🤣🤣 I try to be sneaky so it doesn’t look like I’m taking a picture but then he’s just wandering around on the table waiting for whatever is happening next 🤣
We have a winner!!!! Congratulations! I’ll touch base with you right away here :)
I tried going live but it’s just not working for me this morning. Here we have it May’s wheel of names for Pet Of The Month!
Yaha I did it right this time with the help of the kids! LOL
PET OF THE MONTH WHEEL OF NAMES!!!!
Everyone who came in in April was entered to be pet of the month. Winner receives $10 off their next groom and an extra little goodie from me. This months extra little treat is a hand painted pet portrait on a stepping stone from La Rocks by Design!
I had to share picture taking with these two and their crazy head tilts. This is what trimming Kiwi’s head is usually like except for faster more erratic movements. I couldn’t help but giggle at hoe TicTac’s mannerisms are so similar to Kiwi’s. Please don’t judge me for the hair on the table and you might want to make sure your volume isn’t too loud I am right in front of the mic making all sorts of noise 🤣
Okay okay one more. Bruno has the best smile ever. He has done this from his very first visit as a puppy. I’ll be honest the first time I saw it I wasn’t too sure what to think but it is 100% excitement and smiles. What a sweetheart.
Congratulations Mylo!!! Vicki, I’ll be in touch with you in a little bit. 😁
This beautiful lady is a flirting with Fido pup from years passed. She has already found her furever home but she got to hang out with the puppies today because it was so quiet! I was quite impressed seeing her learn to jump a training bar in just a few minutes of practice. The things dogs will do for doobie snacks treats! The ladies were marking good behaviour with dehydrated beef lung. I admit this is something I’ve never heard of before for treats. They are a lean treat and can be up to 80% of a dogs daily intake so they are an excellent training treat!
Puppy nail trims at flirting with Fido. This little guy is so stinking cute! At somewhere around the 8 week mark he is all fluffy, squishy faced puppy! He was not crazy about me trying to handle his feet. Once he was tuckered out from visiting with everyone I tried again. He slept right though his nail trim! Lol
Puppy nail trims at the flirting with Fido store in the mall. This little sweetheart at only 4 months old is fully house trained and very smart! You should see her work for a treat!
I had the privilege of meeting this old man today. At 15 years old, a few health concerns and not caring so much for other dogs anymore, the busy salon environment was just not for Benji anymore. I am happy to report Benji had a relaxing spaw day including lots of snuggles, a little bit of massage and a walk! Benji did phenomenal for everything, even the tasks I was told he’s not a fan of but will tolerate well enough.
He didn’t like his head and face being blow dried so I let that area air dry letting his cowlick show in the finish groom! Lol he got a 5/8” all over with scissored legs, a short face and tidied ears. This guy melts my heart I could have sat snuggling him all day!
Barn! Barn is the word that gets this adorable little grin out of Dante! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this grin before from him!
Dante was a pouty guy again today, I guess that’s what I get for getting him out of bed so early for grooming rather than to go play at the park 😆😆😆 Dante is such a good boy for everything. He lets me brush him and blow dry him and shave his feet and his face with little to no fuss. The last two times he came to see me I’ve noticed he doesn’t want me blow drying one side of him, always the same side. Today I tried moving around the table instead of turning him around and he just turned around and offered me his same side again LOL I took it nice and slow and just worked around what he was comfortable with. 🤷♀️
Babes is always full of snuggles and doesn’t complain about anything when she’s with me. If she runs into me on the street though she hides behind her owner like I’m not her favourite person in the world 😮 the audacity Babes! Lol babes got a 3/8” all over with a cute little round Head. Hopefully shaving out her paw pads super clean makes a difference for how much snow gets stuck in her paw pads! Nothing is worse than going to a walk and having snow clumps sticking between their paw pads!
Dottie wasn’t quite feeling herself yesterday so we skipped the blow dryer. I don’t think she was too upset to get in and out a little quicker than usual!
Bruno came in for his very first puppy introduction groom today. It was not his favourite thing. 😢 the world is big and scary when everything is new. He had a bath and we started spot training for the blow dryer. We spent about 30 minutes doing this just letting him go back and forth in and out of the air flow at his whim. When I finally got closer and started moving the air around and not just in one spot he snuggled right into me and let me blow dry quite a bit of him! It took a little time and patience but I’m very impressed how quickly he caught on! He did wonderful for his nail trim and tolerated his paw pads being skimmed. He’s not a huge fan of being brushed but it is one of those things he will need to work on especially with his coat type! We are working on the “pat and pull” technique. The key to desensitizing for a task like this is taking it slow, don’t push, listen to their signs of not wanting anymore and SOO MUCH praise and reward when they do tolerate even the slightest amount of their most dreaded tasks. Today I was able to lightly brush out his body with the slicker and comb as well as work a little bit of the hair on his legs and tail.
The perks of puppy coat is, it’s made for training! It doesn’t tangle and mat as easy as an adult coat. This gives us more time to work with the puppy on the task before we have to worry about tangles and such. The goal is to have puppies completely comfortable with brushing before their coat transitions, generally anywhere between 6-9 months is when the coat will start to transition. He was not having any of me fussing around his face. I decided at this point because he was pretty worked up I would try out some of my new skills and give him a puppy massage to relax him. Within 2 minutes of starting his massage he was laying on the table letting me trim his eye corners 😮 I’m not going to lie. I’m impressed how quickly the massage calmed him down! We will start working on a chin rest for him
Archie is quite the turkey when he wants to be! Despite my best efforts I could not find his sweet spot. The spot where the scratches are appreciated so much all his worries melt away lol. He does give good hugs though! We’ve officially started a training schedule for Archie to get him comfortable with different tasks, we are currently working on his face being handled and trimmed. Today we moved from the table down to the floor and started training for a chin rest. I put my scissors in my hand, held my hand out palm up and every time Archie looked at or touched my hand he got big praise and scratches all over. The goal is to get him comfortable with resting his chin on my hand so I can trim his face while he rests his chin there. This gives him control over when I trim and gives him the opportunity to opt out and take a break.
The chin rest is an excellent tool for all dogs to have in their repertoire of tricks. This task comes in handy for much more than just trimming faces!
Mindy came in for a tidy up today, she had a bath and brush, we cleaned up her face, feet, nails and sanitary area. She had the joy of living in a cone for a couple weeks recently. I was a little concerned after what she had been through that she might act a little differently for her groom today. I scheduled extra time with her just so we could take our time and work around her needs today but she did AMAZING, she acting just like her old self which I was so happy to see ♥️.
