📣📣📣 HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣📣📣

As some of you may already know, we have recently added a new “receptionist” (read Yellow Lab) to our team! A few things about …she has a bit of a weak bladder, is often caught snoring on the job (😴) and her face is really quite smooshy for a young gal - but really she has great potential as a greeter lol. She’s been with us for about a month now and is settling in super awesome! Oh, and she answers to the name Harper. Can’t even wait for you all to meet her - she’s even more adorable in person! ❤️❤️

This little spitfire of a Wirehaired Jack Russell Terrier came to me for the very first time about a month ago to get started on a hand stripping schedule and I had so much fun with her! She came back again yesterday for another session because, well…Rome just wasn’t built in a day. 😉

So what is hand stripping exactly, you ask? It’s essentially a technique that is most commonly used in the dog show world, mainly to preserve the natural harsh texture and beautiful colour in wire coated breeds; it is mainly used on Terriers and a few hunting breeds. Shaving this type of coat would result in losing the rich beautiful colour in the dogs markings and it would also cause the coat to become fuzzy, dull and have a tendency to become matted. The actual process of stripping a coat involves removing each dead hair BY HAND (instead of just running a set of clippers and/or scissors over the dog), which then allows vibrant, new hair to grow into its place a few days/weeks later. This technique is actually considered somewhat of a ‘lost art’, as it is a niche market that many grooming salons do not offer because of how time consuming and technical it is.
