Today, I groomed a pup who was struggling in the heat under a heavy, overgrown coat. With temperatures rising, long hair can quickly become a serious discomfort—and even a health risk—for many dogs.

This week, I had the privilege of grooming a senior pet, a Morkie, who needed a little extra care and patience. When it comes to our older furry companions, grooming isn't about perfection—it's about comfort, safety, and dignity.

Senior pets may have arthritis, sensitive skin, limited mobility, or other health concerns that make traditional grooming styles unrealistic or even unsafe. That’s why we focus on comfort grooms—gentle, low-stress sessions tailored to what the animal can handle.

Debris ingestion and entanglement: Fireworks litter (plastic, paper, strings) can be eaten or entangle wildlife. Toxins from the debris can cause illness—even death .

Wildfire risk: Discarded fireworks can trigger wildfires, devastating both habitats and animals .

🛡️ What You Can Do to Help

* Opt for safer celebrations: Watch community fireworks shows instead of setting them off at home to reduce overall impact on wildlife

* Less loud, less harmful: If using fireworks, choose quieter types and always clean up thoroughly afterward to prevent wildlife from consuming hazardous waste .

When the Grooming Just Isn’t Right…

Not every grooming appointment ends with a happy dog and a satisfied owner — and we understand how frustrating that can be.

Recently, we met a sweet pup who came to us after a less-than-stellar experience elsewhere. Despite being booked for a full groom, their nails hadn’t been trimmed, old mats were left in the coat, and they were sent home with a heavy and trimmed long coat — in the middle of a heat wave.

Their family knew something wasn’t right, and they chose to try Whinnies, Wags and Whiskers. We took the time to do it right: trimming, de-matting gently, and making sure the dog left feeling refreshed, not stressed.
