Standard stainless steel bowls.
Baby food on sale at the grocery store for .57 cents!
Mix it in with kibble or raw.

Here I've smoothed the mix around the bottom of the bowls. The large bowl has a little water added. Freeze and serve for dinner.

Get creative and smooth food along the outer edge of the bowls for a different challenge for your pup or add berries/veggie sticks/cottage cheese for texture. Freeze for later.

A few wee house guests. 2 Chihuahuas who came to me via a kind person who didn't want a BYB (backyard breeder) to euthanize them just because they were no longer useful....

With the help of my dogs they are quickly learning how to be loved house pets ♥

They are learning:
how to walk on a leash
Meet new people
Exposure to the world - traffic, new sounds, household sounds etc

More slow feeder fun! The dogs have been great this week even though I've been in bed all week with a rotten cold. Thought I'd do up a fun breakfast to keep them a little busy.

🎃Got Pumpkin?! 🎃

It's pumpkin season so a perfect time to stock up on fresh pumpkins or pie pumpkins 🎃 Dogs tend to love pumpkin and it's super healthy for them.

I get pie pumpkins, cut in half, gut, toss em in the oven at 400. You can drizzle in oil (coconut or virgin olive oil and sprinkle with cinnamon or turmeric).

Throw a dollop on top of kibble/meals. Portion and freeze for another day. Make frozen pumpkin/yogurt/blueberry pops, stuff and freeze in a Kong, spread in/on slow feeder or bake some pumpkin cookies for your pooch!

*Lana was supervised with her pumpkin until I cooked it up. She made a mess, looked like rodents chewed it in bits and scattered it over the ottoman...

Rules For Owning a Gun Dog

1. Spend time with them each day. You are their everything.

2. Don’t hide your excitement, let them see the kid in you.

3. Your expectations of a bird dog are high but their expectations of an owner are higher.

4. Don’t sleep on it take them to the vet.

5. Go hunting with them at least one time just the two of you.

6. Tell your new friends about your old dogs.

7. Their falses aren’t the only ones in the field.

8. Judge your hunting friends by how they treat their dogs.

9. Always stop to pet them.

10. Stop walking, sit down you will see how much they love you. Enjoy it.

11. Treat puppies like puppies and treat your 12 year old like he still is one.

12. Know when to retire them and give them everything they want. They gave you everything they had.

13. Have patience when they are hard of hearing...it’s the birds fault.

14. Show your boys that there’s reasons to be gentle in this world. Bird dogs are just one of them.

15. You helped her down the stairs when she was young now help her up them when she is old.

16. Take the picture every single damn time. It’s worth it.

17. Enjoy their determination even when it’s not after a bird.

18. When it’s time to say goodbye don’t leave his side. Hold him. He knows what’s happening and he’s happy you are with him.

19. Remember them, visit the places that made you both so happy. Think about her while you stop walking and sit down with her daughter on an October afternoon.

20. Understand that you can not fill the hole they left in your heart but remember them and they will be with you every step of the way.

The perfect way to cut hotdogs:
For what it’s worth, when I use hot dogs as training treats, I cut each one into about 64 pieces: Slice them lengthwise, roll it over halfway and slice it lengthwise again, so you have four long, skinny pieces. Then, holding it together, slice it across, about 16 times, so you end up with 64 or so tiny treats.

Slow Feeders! There are LOTS of different slow feeding bowls for dogs (and cats!). These are great for dogs that tend to inhale or wolf down their meals. You can disperse any kind of food in the various types of feeders, they are suitable for kibble/raw/home cooked meals. These feeders are also great for a little mental stimulation for your dog as they have to work to get the food out.

Smudge a little peanut butter, yogurt, fruit, veggie, cottage cheese, pumpkin, moist food...around the edges and hand it out for a treat. Even better toss it in the freezer first and keep your dog busy for a little longer.

Here I have served up dinner in 3 of the 4 different types of slow feeders I currently have on hand.

Door or gate left open when the kids head out to play? Would your dog stay put or dash off when opportunity presented?

Lana the 5month old puppy has worked hard to learn that an open door isn't an instant opportunity. She has learned to wait for the OK to proceed through open doors or gates.

Lana is the newest member of the pack! She is a female Golden Retriever. Here she is out at the Gravenhurst Car Show this summer.

What a good girl! It was her first big and busy outing, she was about 5 months old. LOTS of noise, loud music, cars, people and other dogs.

Goose the Goose Control Dog in training. Goose has been working on his socializing/exposure so that he can be a focused Goose Control Dog in the future.

Goose is a pure breed Border Collie from a working line. He needs a job and loves to work! He looooves his cuddles as well.

Hello everyone! My apologies for not keeping the page updated!

Things are sort of getting back on track now and I will be aiming to promote Balanced, One on One Dog Training again!

Life had some big changes over the last year or so and I've still been offering training and select dog sitting but have stayed relatively low key.

Check out these beautiful girls that are boarding at Gone to the Dogs this weekend. Bodhi and Cooper are from the same household. Bodhi isn't always big on hanging out with other dogs, that's okay, we easily accommodated. Bodhi is a Cane Corso and Cooper is a Rottie/Boxer. We enjoyed having the girls and they had a good time!

Nebula is a ~2yr, intact, female, Lab/Beagle mix who visited today to work on her moderate dog fear aggression. When she was just a wee pup her first socializing experience was very scary. She wasn't socialized at all for the rest of the year. Her new owner would like her to be more comfortable and less stressed and reactive on walks and around new friends/family dogs.

We started with slow, leashed intros to my most chill dogs and took it from there. By the end of the the session Nebula was responding very well to verbal correction and encouragement. She got to have a romp off leash while the other dogs ignored her, gave her space and let her investigate them on her terms.

We even finished up with a group photo!!!

Still a long way to go and lots of training ahead for her committed owner but way to go Nebula and Sam!

Check out Luci the Dutch Shepherd here for a "mini bootcamp" Board & Train for a couple of days. We are always working on basic house manners and basic obedience. Her recall is doing Great! She's earned some off leash play and swim time.
