Day 8, pups are all weighing between 800-900g and have doubled their birth weight which is a goal by day 10. They’re crushing it.

A daily weigh in is the absolute simplest way to tell if a puppy is in trouble. They should all be gaining a minimum of 10% each day and if they aren’t, then I start weighing more frequently and intervene with additional nursing opportunities or tube feeding. If they aren’t gaining with these steps, then it’s vet visit for any puppies that aren’t with the curve.

Last night one of the puppies slipped over the side of the wading pool while I was asleep and was unable to get back in on their own. Magic woke me in the night and insisted that I get up so I did and she brought me to the puppy on the floor. Though I am sure she tried, she could not collect the pup and replace them to the nest but she knew that I could. It was such a great decision and shows amazing maternal instincts. I’m enlarging their space today to give them taller walls. Never had a pup go over the side at 2 days old but there is a first time for everything.
Reasons why I have the mother and puppies in my bedroom plus a camera on them at all times.

Best sixpack you can get. Last night Magic had 4 girls followed by 2 boys. All weigh between 394-434g or just under a pound. That’s a bit less than a brick of butter, a can of pop or 4 quarter pounders 🍔.

Magic is tired but a wonderful mama.

The long anticipated pups were born overnight. We had 4 girls and 2 boys. Mostly solid red without a lot of white and some will have dark eyes and noses like mama.

If you are interested in taking a puppy home at the end of February/early March then please get in contact.
