Everyone meet Myleigh ☀️

Myleigh is a local teenager who offers in home cat sitting in Chemanius! I saw a post her mom made about her daughter offering cat sitting and so I commented saying if she wants to further her knowledge into working with cats then to reach out me and she can come hang out with me while I do nail trims out of Puppycats Pet Emporium in Chemanius!

Today she arrived and willing to learn!! It was an unusually busy Tuesday and there was lots of cats and dogs where she was able to listen and understand basic body language in animals! How to notice warning signs, how to hold cats and dogs and a bit of everything In between to grooming tools and food!

Working with animals and it’s an amazing attribute being able to have a versatile background in anything animal related! She was eager to learn everything that I was teaching her! She even want to come back often and learn more.

After the end of it, I asked what was her favourite thing to learn, she responded with watching you trim the nails! In no time she’ll be in animal expert!

Thanks to Myleigh’s mumma for having her come in!

Don’t forget, I do offer this service! I’m more than willing and happy to share my knowledge onto young kids who are eager and happy to learn about animals! It’s an amazing industry to be in and to be able to prepare a teenager for the working world is very much rewarding!

Happy Tuesday 🐾

Meet Loki!

Loki is a new client and being 9 months old, I kinda had a feeling he probably wouldn’t be the biggest fan. (Age group 6 months to a year is where the teenager phase shines through and they like to test the owners of what they can get away with). So going into it, I had a feeling he wasn’t going to like it. Being a Doberman also, they have their quirks! When I arrived, he quickly went into anxious mode and ran away barking. I followed him to the couch and he almost did the zoomies (not in a good way, he was trying to get away from me). I asked the owner to give me some treats and we’ll work on trying to get him to come close to me. After a few treats, he calmed down and started to slowly make his way over to me. Finally, after a handful of treats I asked to shake a paw (a tactic I always do when I’m about to start the nail trim so that way I can continue holding the paw). He didn’t even flinch with the first nail clip. So I rewarded with another treat. Asked him to shake a paw again and before we knew it, he was sitting handsome and dangling his paw in front of me. He had absolute zero issues with having his nails trimmed. I sneaked in a quick little lick on the face too.

It was apparent he was nervous of new people but with a few good treats, he quickly knew I was someone who kept rewarding him with positive behaviour! Total time of trust was about 10 minutes, total time of nail trim, 4 minutes.

I’ve always said it before and will always contribute to say it. Trust is the absolute key component. Without trust, there’s a low chance of succeeding completing the nail trim. That’s why I will forever and always take my time to build up some form of trust. If I can do that, then I know the nail trim will go smoothly (to the best we can)!

Good job Loki!! 🐾💛

I want to take a minute to thank the veterinary clinics and veterinarians who recommend my services!

Often I hear from clients that their veterinarian has recommended me and it’s a great feeling knowing my services are being recognized by other professionals in the pet industry.

Because I specifically specialize in aggressive dogs and cats when conducting nail trims, I often get the hardest of hardest cases. Veterinarians will refer clients to me so that way I can help desensitize your animal to having nail trims. My goal is to make it so your pet doesn’t need to be fully sedated. My other goal is to help train your animal in a way where we can hopefully eliminate the fear and work on trust and building that special bond to the point where your animal will allow me to trim its nails. I will always do an assessment on behaviour prior to the nail trim and then make my professional judgment going forward on the best course of action to achieve our end goal of making your pet as comfortable as possible during the nail trim. While sometimes we can get the nails done with no medication, some animals for the safety of themselves, require medication to elevate some stress and to help bring the energy down during its nail trim. If your pet requires medication, I’ll often refer you to your veterinarian to get a prescription for your next nail trim.

If you have a dog or cat who’s aggressive and or has anxiety during its nail trim. I highly recommend reaching out to me. Even if you think it’ll be impossible, I still encourage it as you’d be surprised at my capabilities.

Thank you again to all the veterinary clinics and veterinarians! I appreciate you 💛🐾

⚠️ Warning ⚠️

For starters, let us all pray for all the wildfires upon us and to give thanks to all the men and women who are working tirelessly to put them out and to protect us. Especially Jasper as the whole community has now lost %70 of their beautiful land.

With wildfire season well under way, our air quality will decrease and just like humans, it can have a negative impact on our animals. Animals with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions will be more at risk than others and it’s best to limit outside activity. It’s recommended you keep all doors and windows closed no matter how warm it is. It’s important to watch the warning signs of ingesting too much smoke. Your animal may appear to be coughing, have throat irritation and or have difficulty breathing. If you suspect your animal has any of these symptoms during a high quality alert then it’s best to seek emergency veterinarian care.

Let’s protect each other and our pets 🐾

Hello everyone!

Because of what happened recently that negatively impacted my life and my business, I thought I would come on here and give an update. Not because I need too, but because what happened jeopardized my income and for that, my clients deserve to know what happened and now the outcome.

Social services came to my property and immediately found zero concern for the safety of my son. She also found zero concern that Bodi comes to work with me and that I can resume working how I always have been. With one recommendation that I have a baby monitor in my truck for the FEW MINUTES that I am away from him. (Still in the process of getting one that will be able to work well in areas where there’s little to no reception)

I’d like to point out that if you have an immediate concern with how I operate my business, you are welcome to ask me questions revolving how I operate, what safety measures I have for my son when he comes to work and anything related to your pet. I will happily answer your question. If you have an issue with any of the above, there are multiple mobile people that you are gladly welcome to use.

For the person who took it upon themselves to report me to social services because of my son coming to work with me. Shame on you. I would like to point out that you severely damaged my mental health, you made me lose out on income, and most importantly, you did something that could have been avoidable had you come and asked me questions about my son coming to work with me. If you have the respect that I would hope you do, my family and I would appreciate an apology. I hope you sleep well at night knowing what you did was a malicious intent.

Thank you to every single person who messaged me, commented such kind encouraging words when my life got turned upside down. It’s an amazing feeling knowing I have a troop of supporters who not only care about me but also my family and my business that I’ve worked hard for for the last 4 years. You came together when I needed it the most, and it brings me immense joy and happiness knowing I truly have the best clients imaginable.

As always, thank you for the support and I always look forward to providing the best service I can 💛🐾

In light of recent events unfolding in my life, I wasn’t going to share such personal detail, however my business has now been negatively impacted by what’s going on and therefor, I feel like I have every right to share my feelings about this matter and bring light to what’s happening.

Last week Fortis BC came to my property to check my meter which was behind a closed gate. He unfortunately and mistakenly left my gate open. While Bodi and I were outside, I had to run in and use the washroom and I left him outside to play with his toys. Couple minutes later I returned and he had escaped to the front yard. I was in disbelief that this happened. My heart sank and I was worried sick. Thankfully he didn’t make it off the property but it was still nonetheless a scary situation for me. I posted a warning to a mothers group to warn others who lived near me to check your gates in the event this happens to anyone else. I was immediately frowned upon and called horrible names. People made accusations towards me and it got so out of hand I deleted my post. I sat in my house crying to the point where I couldn’t breathe. I was shocked with how the outcome unfolded.

Fast forward a couple days. I receive a phone call from child protected services. Someone from that moms group went to great lengths to report me for leaving my son unattended in a newly renovated backyard specifically designed for my son. I was devastated. My integrity as a mother was questioned and my mental health took a turn for the worse. I couldn’t believe what was happening in my life in that moment. Social services and I agreed on a date that they would come by the house.

Fast forward to yesterday. I receive another phone call from social services that someone has made a complaint that Bodi comes to work with me and I leave him in the truck. My heart sank when I heard this. I felt empty, betrayed, gutted, lost and sick to my stomach. I have been very open about Bodi coming to work with me and someone again went to great lengths to harm me and now my personal income. Since I ended my maternity leave just a short 2 months after birth, I made sure I had a great system in place to ensure safety for Bodi while I worked. As a mother, business owner, and human, I’m hurt someone would try and maliciously jeopardize my income in such way to hurt me. In the economy we live in now, you do what you gotta do to make ends meet and supply food for your family.

I would never put my own son in harms way. I would never put my son in a situation where I didn’t feel it was safe. I am the best advocate for my son and currently that was taken away from me.

I post frequent photos of Bodi and my family and someone questioned the integrity I have as a mother. Shame on you.

I apologize to the clients who’ve I’ve cancelled for this week. Please allow a few days for me to figure out this situation.

Thank you for all the continued support 💛

Good morning everyone!

As a business owner for the last 4 years, I’ve been pretty transparent and open about sharing my own personal life with my clients which I feel makes me a pretty personable person. Many of you have known me for years and some for a couple months, while some don’t even know me but have the capability and knowledge of knowing about me from what I post publicly. For years I’ve enjoyed being able to share moments of my life with you all, especially my dear Bodi. I’ve taken great pride in how I operate as a person and as a business owner, along with being a mother.

An unfortunate event happened in my life recently which has altered how I want to move forward in my business.

I currently will no longer be sharing any form of personal details about me and my family, especially Bodi. The internet is not a safe place unfortunately. I will still share the odd photo here and there because I do love showing off my handsome little dude but I’ll be very selective.

I thank everyone as always who has supported me for the last 4 years. Without any of you, I would not have my business and would not be where I am today.

I look forward to continuing to serve the island and giving the best service I can. 🐾🩷

Thank you, Hannah 💛

Finally cooler temperatures!!!

I’ve had a couple people inquire about if Bodi comes to work with me during the really hot days and so I thought I would clear the air juuuust in case anyone is wondering! His daycare spot fell through so I am left without daycare so he’ll be coming to work with me lots!

Bodi comes to work with me only when the lady who watches him can’t watch him. If he does need to come with me, I try to make it about 12 clients max for that day so that way he’s not hanging out in the truck to long. He’s got his IPad, snacks and water with of course the A/C going constantly (I don’t turn my truck off which is another reason why people ask why I keep my truck running), it’s just to keep him cool! When I have 20+ clients booked in, then he’s never with me!

Hopefully that answers some questions! As always, I appreciate everyone when I do have to juggle clients around a little! Being a business owner plus mum is tough work so I do try my best to be the best at both! 🩷

3 years in a row I’ve ranked top 3 best groomer in Nanaimo along with being top 3 in CommunityVotes - Nanaimo for Nanaimo. Being ranked that high in a competitive but friendly industry means something I’m incredibly proud of and makes me know that who I am as a person and how I operate my business shows that people like me. Again, something that I’m very proud in! I will add- it is still under 4 Paws Mobile Nail Trims!

As always, would love to hit that #1 spot so every vote counts! You can vote everyday! Along with heading over to community votes page to vote for me there also!

Thanks for all the continued support everyone! 🐾🩷

Make your votes count. Submit your choices in the 2024 Best of the City reader survey by August 5, 2024 at 11pm. Everyone that votes has a chance to win a $250 gas card from Mid Island CO-OP. Good luck everyone and thanks for the votes.

We got a full house load now 🐾

Belle the golden is a frequent flyer also and so knowing both Belle and Dexter well, I knew them together would be just fine! And in fact, best friends you can add. They are playing like crazy in the backyard!

Today I’m setting up the dog pool so that way they can have a cool off when temperatures are reaching some highs!

And of course, Janey and Abby love when other dogs join our pack! Janey maybe not so much as she’s the alpha in the pack but she tolerates them well!

Frequent flyer 😍

Dexter was with me for boarding right before I left for holidays and now he’s back for the long haul of 2 weeks!

It’s nice having reoccurring clients come to stay cause there behaviour changes once they’ve become settled into our home. At first Dexter showed some anxiety being in a new home with new people but now that he’s been with me 4 times, he comes in tail wagging and happy as can be and not at all nervous! Loves being in my home and has become a velco dog (loves to be close by at all times)!

As always, I’m here for your boarding needs! 🐾

⚠️ Heat warning in effect ⚠️

I’m sure many of us have seen the weather forecast for the next 2 weeks ☀️ 🥵

It’s going to be a warm one and especially it’s going to be a warm one for our pets! Every year people need to be reminded to never leave your pet in a vehicle (to be clear, you will be charged a fine). 6 minutes is all it takes for a dog to overheat and potentially die. If you love your animal, keep them home on these hot days!

Going to share some tips to help you through these warmer days!

1) freeze some plain Greek yogurt in an ice cube tray (or peanut butter), this is a nice cooling treat for them!

2) make sure your keep topping up the water bowl! Increased thirst is likely to happen! Put a couple ice cubes in to make it nice and cool!

3) if you have to walk your pet, make sure to do it in the early hours! Dusk or dawn is ideal. The pavement is far too hot during the day to walk your dog. Your dog will thank you by letting them stay in the house throughout the afternoon.

4) many breeds are more at risk of heatstroke (pushed in snouts, so it’s best to ensure they are kept cool)

5) if it’s REALLY warm, get a towel and soak it in cool water, place it over the dog while they lay down. This can help bring down the internal temperature slowly.

6) if you suspect your animal is in danger of a heatstroke, contact your veterinarian immediately as they will need to be seen promptly. While you can prepare, it’s best to make sure you know the warning signs to look out for.

If you must take your animal in a vehicle, please keep the A/C going! If you cannot do this, I can make myself available if I’m not working to look after your pet while you run some errands. Free of charge. I just want to ensure no animals die from being let alone in a vehicle.

Most importantly, enjoy the sunshine and heat, but do it in a way that protects yourself and your pet! 🐾

⚠️🚙⚠️ Despite the warnings, hundreds of dogs die around the world every year after being left in a hot car. Someone you know may need to read this very important message. ⚠️🚙⚠️

SIX MINUTES is all it takes for a dog to overheat in a hot car.

Your dog could suffer serious injury or die in a matter of minutes if left alone in a car.

• The temperature inside a closed vehicle left in the sun can double within 12 minutes.

• At least 75% of the temperature increase in a closed vehicle occurs within 5 minutes of closing the vehicle, and at least 89% of the temperature increase occurs within 15 minutes of closing the vehicle.

• Temperatures exceeding 104˚ F can lead to death or serious injury for the occupants.

• Temperatures in a closed vehicle sitting in the hot sun can reach 160˚F and above. An animal will suffer immeasurably and may die before the temperature reaches 150˚F.

• Even when parked in the shade, the vehicle temperatures can exceed 104˚C.

• Leaving windows down more than 2 inches on an unattended vehicle will not prevent a car from reaching extreme temperatures.

• Even if the animal is revived, they can die due to severe internal organ damage.

Your dog trusts you to have their best interest at heart ALWAYS.
Please don’t risk their safety.

If you are not taking your dog inside your destination with you, PLEASE leave them at home where they are comfortable and safe.

🐾 “Will my dog be treated like family during their stay” 🐾

The simple answer is yes!

If your dog is friendly with other dogs and especially toddler friendly, then the answer is yes!! Bodi will take advantage of dogs who are here and will cuddle up to them any chance he gets!

The lovely Dexter loves all the attention Bodi gives him!

Your dog is part of our family when they are here with us! 🐾🐶
