A partial quote from today's interview with CBC Victoria. We MUST do better. Discourage people from purchasing rabbits when they do not know the first thing about them; do not encourage the purchase of 'cheap' or 'free' pet rabbits. There is so much to be done to change this attitude and educate people. Help us to spread the word!
We will be on CBC Victoria radio station tomorrow at 7:50am to spread awareness about feral domestic populations. Tune in!
Thank you to Nanaimo News Bulletin for taking the time to interview us about this important and widespread issue on Vancouver Island. Please think twice before taking ferals into your home, and most of all, do NOT dump rabbits!
Thank you Nanaimo News Bulletin for interviewing us about this.

Thanks to Nanaimo News Bulletin for interviewing us for this important message; let's hope people read it and really consider the impact of releasing domestic rabbits and subjecting them to a life of suffering.
People continue to dump their pet rabbits, laments V.I. Fluffle
⚠️❗️We know you take them in because you care, but the reality is that all rescues are full. We know it hurts to leave them be, knowing their life will be shortlived and that they may suffer - but this is the effect of people dumping rabbits. 📕📗Educate wherever, and whenever possible, or this will continue.
We have exciting news to share! We are going to be doing a cooler raffle fundraiser. It will be held on Aug 18 at the Garlic Festival in Merville. Each cooler will be stuffed with goodies and have an estimated value of around $200.
Tickets are $5 each and can only be purchased at the event.
If you can't make it to the event and would still like to support our cause you can do so by making a donation either by etransfer ([email protected]) or heading to our website and clicking the donate button.
We appreciate all of you and hope to see you there!
Hoppy Wednesday from adoptable buns Baxter and Buster!
These boys are bonded litter mates in search of a loving home. They have been with VI Flufflw for quite some time and would love to find a family of their own that will love them dearly.
If you are interested in more info or adopting these two sweet boys please reach out to [email protected]
Stay hoppy!
Rescue is honourable, but it isn't sustainable for us as such a small organization.
We get countless requests to take on bunnies. Every time we say no, we know that there is judgement and frustration.
The reality is that people need to stop dumping. We'd like to hear from 4-H group leaders for us to give information about how terrible it is to release domestic rabbits. They have a large platform, and perhaps this information can be given.
To some, it may seem gross, but being in tune with your pets p**p can tell you a lot about their health.
Here are some of the different types of rabbit p**ps and what they could be telling you:
1. Normal Pellets:
Appearance: Round, dry, and crumbly.
Meaning: Indicates a healthy digestive system. Rabbits produce a large number of these pellets daily.
2. Cecotropes (Cecal Pellets):
Appearance: Shiny and clustered together, resembling a bunch of grapes or a small berry.
Meaning: These are normal and essential for a rabbit's health. Rabbits typically eat these directly from their a**s to re-ingest nutrients.
3. Small or Misshapen Pellets:
Appearance: Smaller than normal pellets, sometimes irregular in shape.
Meaning: Often a sign of stress, dehydration, or a change in diet. It can also indicate the beginning of gastrointestinal stasis, a serious condition that requires immediate veterinary attention.
4. Linked pellets:
Appearance: Pellets linked together by hair.
Meaning: Indicates that the rabbit is ingesting a lot of hair, likely due to grooming. This is common during molting. Ensure the rabbit is getting enough fiber and is well-groomed to prevent hair buildup in the digestive tract, which could cause a blockage.
5. Mucous-Coated P**p:
Appearance: Pellets covered in a slimy, mucous-like substance.
Meaning: Can be a sign of an intestinal infection, parasites, or cecal impaction. Immediate veterinary attention is required.
6. Diarrhea:
Appearance: Liquid or very soft, unformed f***s.
Meaning: This is a serious condition that can be life-threatening. It requires immediate veterinary care, as it can lead to severe dehydration and other complications.
It is great to monitor your rabbit's p**p. If you notice any significant changes or abnormalities, it's best to consult a veterinarian.

We are so thankful this Thursday for Amanda!
"If we all keep making a small difference, eventually, it will make a big difference"...
Do you feel like you could support fundraisers, help at events, or have other skills to offer?! Reach out to us! ➡[email protected]
Would anyone else like to use this excuse today for a tired brain? 😝🤓🫢
But seriously... adopt a Fluffle bunny and fall in love 🥰😍
😎 It's easy-bunny-in-sunglasses-peasy to donate!
Any amount supports us in the adoption of the bunnies in our care that still require all the things that come with responsible ownership, such as spay/neuter, hay, food, straw, bedding, water, etc. We want to move forward with education initiatives and can't do this until the buns in our care waiting for adoption are fixed, and adopted! 😎
A big thank you to Heather & Amanda, our dedicated Campbell River volunteers, for raising $211.00 at the market they attended on Sunday. Thank you for giving your precious time to raise this needed money!
You might be able to help us!
We need fosters to cuddle and love our bunnies so that they become the best bunnies for adoption! If you have a spare room, or a large and safe area either indoors, or outdoors, please help us out and get in touch!

📣 CAMPBELL RIVER 📣
Come say hello this weekend at the Wings and Wheels event. We will be there fundraising this Sunday from 8 to 3. It is at the Campbell River Airport.
Our organization survives off of fundraising and donations. If you can't make it out this weekend and would like to make a donation, you can send it to [email protected] or head to our website and click the donate button.
We hope to see you Sunday!
These sweethearts have been very recently dumped near the Nanaimo superstore area. This adds to the issue immensely. They will now breed... Dumping makes a big problem even bigger. Every single time. No exceptions.
Look at the sweet baby in picture one. So young. Surrounded by trash with no place to go. Boiling in the heat no doubt.
Thank you to a few dedicated rabbit loving individuals who put water out for these poor souls.
This is Carl, and he is rocking some cool ear wraps! Carl belongs to volunteer Amanda. Amanda says, "Carl was quite warm before I wrapped his ears in a cool, wet cloth. After about a minute, he perked right up."
Amanda wants to show you just how easy it can be to help cool them down on these hot days. Put some cool water in a bowl, put a cloth in, wring it out and then wrap it around their ears, or wipe their ears with it.
**If you think your rabbit has heat stroke, contact your veterinarian immediately. Remember not to cool them down to quickly as they are susceptible to shock quite easily, and never soak them or spray them down. **
Stay cool friends!
How handsome is he?!
This is Tornado! He is a favorite amongst our volunteers.
Shanon says, "Tornado is one of my favorite bunnies in the whole fluffle. Tornado is shy and skittish, but when you look into his eyes, you can see a soul who is dying to be loved. For someone who has a quiet home and a lot of patience, I believe that he will blossom and calm, and live the life he really deserves 🤍🤍🤍".
He truly just needs some time and lots of love. He holds so much potential to be a great companion to someone.
If you are interested in more about Tornado, please reach out to [email protected]
And if now just isn't the right time for you to adopt a bun, but you still would like to help out, we are always accepting donations. You can do so by sending it to [email protected] or heading to our website and clicking on the donate button.
Have a hoppy Monday.
With tempetures hitting the 30s and heat warnings in effect, here are some simple ways to keep your rabbit cool:
1. Provide plenty of fresh water: Ensure your rabbit always has access to cool, fresh water.
2. Keep them in the shade: Ensure their living area is out of direct sunlight.
3. Use fans or air conditioning: Circulate air around their space, but avoid direct drafts.
4. Frozen water bottles: Place frozen water bottles wrapped in a towel in their enclosure for them to lean against.
5. Cool tiles or slabs: Provide a cool surface like a ceramic tile for them to lie on.
6. Wet cloth: Drape a damp cloth over part of their enclosure to cool the air as it evaporates.
7. Groom regularly: Brush out excess fur to help them stay cool.
8. Limit exercise: Reduce physical activity during the hottest parts of the day.
9. Monitor temperature: Keep the living area temperature below 80°F (27°C) if possible.
10. Bring outdoor rabbits inside if possible.
If your rabbit is overheating, cool them down slowly to avoid putting them into shock and contact your veterinarian.
Stay cool out there!

Leo is wishing everyone a safe and happy Canada Day today! 🇨🇦
He hopes you all can get out and enjoy some Canada day festivities. He is also really hoping for a forever home! Not only is Leo adorable, but he is such a sweet, gentle boy. He loves to be loved. When he looks at you, you can see all the love in his eyes that he is just waiting to share with someone.

We are struggling financially to support the very much needed spays and neuters of the buns in our care. While we have managed to get so many spayed and neutered, catching up is never-ending.
If you can spare even a small amount, it all adds up!
And if you'd prefer to put it directly onto the bill, please call the wonderful team at Fantastic Beasts Veterinary Clinic located in Parksville 🌺
Preventing heatstroke in rabbits is crucial, especially during warm weather. Here are some key tips:
1. **Shade**: Ensure your rabbit's enclosure has plenty of shade. Use a towel, umbrella, tunnel, or cardboard box to provide coverage.
2. **Water**: Hydration is essential. Provide multiple water sources and change them at least twice a day. You can also freeze water bottles, wrap them in towels, and place them in the enclosure.
3. **Cool Breeze**: Use fans or open windows to create a breeze, but avoid uncomfortable drafts. Position fans so your rabbit can move away from the breeze if desired.
4. **Cooling Mats/Ceramic Tiles**: These are effective and affordable cooling options. Cooling mats are available at pet stores or online. You can also freeze ceramic tiles and place them in the enclosure for your rabbit to lie on.
5. **Extreme Heat**: During extreme heat and or heat waves, if possible, bring outdoor rabbits inside to keep them cool and safe.
**If you suspect your rabbit has or has had heatstroke, contact your veterinarian immediately. Cooling your rabbit down gradually is important to avoid causing shock.**
Meet Toffee, and Fey!
These two bonded girls are as sweet as sugar. They were recently surrendered to us at absolutely no fault of their own.
They were indoor house buns for the last 4 years. We would love to find them a home as soon as possible so they can get settled back into a loving routine.
Toffee loves pets and cuddles. She is the more confident of the two leading the way for her bestie Fey. Fey is a shy girl but with the right home, love and some time we are certain she will thrive.
If you want to know more about these 2 adorable girls please comment or reach out to [email protected]
These sweet babies are looking for a home. A foster took in a bun that turned out to be pregnant. There were 7, and currently 5 left available. If you are interested in adopting one or more of these sweets, please email [email protected]

❤️🩹💔 Our heart breaks tonight for all the abandoned rabbits on the Island 😞 it is far too cold for them without shelter. They lead a miserable life in this weather. We wish all of them had the chance to be spoiled, warm, loved and cared for!

It's not about whether someone loves their rabbit. It's not a question of love. We don't provide rabbit care education to belittle or guilt people. With that viewpoint, education is avoided to save face or feelings. We were all uninformed at some point. It's whether we accept that we could do better. It's crucial to examine whether our actions continue to align with optimal animal care. If our actions don't, yet we continue in the same way, it's the animal that suffers. And, not just rabbits - any animal. Learning requires acknowledging that our previous methods might not have been the most effective. It's okay to admit a need to do better. It's okay to admit support is needed. In a digital era, we have all the resources for great animal care right at our finger tips. Let's use it.
...and that's a wrap. Sleep well everyone 😴 it's been a long day but very worthwhile thanks to the amazing vets, techs, nurses and staff of Island Tides Veterinary Hospital ✨ [email protected] ✨
