It is almost time to head Back to School!!

We have a few spots left for our September Puppy Kindergarten class starting Monday Sept 9th at 5pm. This class is geared towards puppies 3 - 6 months of age where we work on basic behaviours as well as socialization!

Stephanie working with 1 of the small dog groups on their group sit stay. This is a skill that can be utilized in so many different environments and situations. Notice how each dog is able to patiently wait for their reward while the dog next to them is reward. Another important skill, impulse control! Some tips for you to practice at home with your dog 👇 ➡️ Go back to reward your dog rather than call them to you. This will help them be patient knowing the reward is coming to them. ➡️ Start with duration holding a sit rather than distance. ➡️ Pause when you step back to your dog before rewarding, this will help them learn that your approach doesn't end the behaviour. ➡️ Try moving your feet from side to side or back and forth while leave your torso still. It is with a heavy heart that we are saying good bye to a very important staff member at Wild Tails. 💔 Odessa started working here as a teenager while still finishing high school. She was lucky enough to move from the bathing department and into Playskool as her passion was to help dogs emotional state and their need for knowledge. Odessa quickly found a knack for helping our shy anxious dogs, working a lot with our rescues and smaller crew. Her patience and calm energy put them at ease while learning what Playskool was all about. Odessa continued her education by attending VIUs animal care aid program. She then went on to become one of our Certified Professional Dog Trainers starting Puppy Social groups in 2022. Playskool wouldn't be what it is today without the guidance, love, and support that Odessa has given to the dogs as well as to the other Playskool staff. We wish Odessa all the best in this next chapter of her life ❤️

New baby Willow had her Playskool assessment this morning. She met a wonderful group of appropriate dogs, then went for a sniffy walk on the grass field, followed by a kong in her nap time kennel. Just by chance we had 2 puppies come in today for playskool that happened to be littermates!! Lea and Shanti the Portuguese water dog babies! We started by allowing them (one at a time) to watch the dogs through the fence first. Followed by some meet and greets from appropriate playmates. Short positive interactions before doing some separated bin enrichment and a sniffy walk on our fenced in grass field.
